CHAPTER 19

The sun was already disappearing and yet the seer was nowhere be found. I couldn’t stop staring at the door hoping Ruby would come break the news of her arrival but nothing happened and that heightened my insecurity and fears. With the threat and ultimatum given at the council meeting, I couldn’t step thinking of what would become of me if she eventually doesn’t show up. Would they really push through with the threat or was it just an ordinary threat

How come the seer hadn’t returned yet too? With different thoughts racing through my head, a bad thought suddenly popped up. What if they were all in it together? What if they’d planned it together just so I’ll be punished? What if she lied about going for intervention at the ancient temple when Dawn could have called her the previous night to plan the whole thing? Fear gripped me as this thought took over my head

Quickly, I sprang to my feet and rushed out of the room. I needed to call the seer. I had to get through her. As I rushed down the stairs. I realised how empty the house was, Ruby was nowhere to be found and everywhere was just so eerily quiet that you could hear a pin drop. It felt as if the walls themselves were whispering ominous secrets, heightening my sense of isolation

Could I be the only one left in the house? The thought sent shivers down my spine, a cold realization that I might be facing a situation beyond my control. Reaching the entrance, a surge of panic gripped me as I contemplated the possibility of being locked inside, a prisoner of my own fears. As I stopped at the door, I hesitated for some seconds probably because 1 didn’t want to accept my fear but when I finally gathers the courage, the door swung open with a creak, revealing Ruby’s familiar figure standing on the threshold

Relief flooded through me like a warm embrace and I heaved a sigh of relief. Her presence confirmed I wasn’t locked int

Where have you been?I inquired

“I had to pass down some message from the Alpha to his sister. She wasn’t picking her phone, she replied and I sighed yet again. Come to think of it. I haven’t seen Lyra since she rushed off after hearing her father was sick. I should go see her but first, I had to solve my problems. It’s only if I’m alive and free that I can visit someone else and worry about others

Oh, the Alpha is in?I inquired and she bobbed her head

“Yeah, in his study. Do you need anything? She asked while closing the door

Can I use your phone? I need to call the seer, I told her and she bfted her brows obviously surprised that I was asking for her phone. I didn’t have a phone. My dad took it and sold it off just some days before he sold me off too and ever since, 1 haven’t been able to get one. I mean, I worked as a slave who wasn’t getting paid so there was no way I could get one and since I assumed the Luna title, the pack’s wellness had been my priority so I hadn’t even remembered it until now

My phone? She asked and I bobbed my head. Ruby was a maid in the mansion, she was getting paid so she could definitely afford a phone

Yeah, I have to call the seer. Do you have her number?”

She shook her head

The seer doesn’t have a number. She doesn’t use a phone, she revealed and my shoulders slumped. Looks like there was no way I could be sure my fate tonight but at least I should be able to fight for my safety. A thought crossed my mind at that moment and I raced to Dawn’s study

You keep having the audacity to barge in anytime you like, he began in a sarcastic tone as he lifted his gaze from the laptop revealing his nice pair of glasses. Clad in the glasses, he exuded a completely different aura more relined and serious. He had the perfect CEO look this time unlike the intimidating and scary Alpha he always carried.. He was less scary this time and only gave off the vibe of a nonchalant yet hot and attractive CEO. Personally, I found this demeanor more appealing than the one he had donned since yesterday. To think just a pair of glasses can change someone’s appearance

Don’t you know how to knock? What the hell do you want?He questioned in a cold tone

You know what I want.I replied and he let out a scoll

If you’re not ready to talk, get out of here!He shouted but I inched forward instead

What’s the meaning of the ultimatum given at the council meeting?”

20%售

I’m sure you can understand what they mean, he replied nonchalantly like it wasn’t a big deal. I found myself clenching my fist as I tried to contain my anger

Have you forgotten the contract we signed?”

He lifted his shoulders in a half shrug

Of course not but you can’t expect me to be as dumb as you. The contract still stands.”

And yet you’re supporting these?I fired back

You can sue me for breaching the contract. I’m sure you understand your right. If that’s all you have to say, use the door,he said and I stared at him in shock. To think someone would be this heartless. He knew there was no way I could charge him to court, I didn’t have any money and yet he was using it against me

You ought to pay me, right?I reminded him and he furrowed his brows. It had been stated in the contract that I’ll have some sort of financial independence got agreeing to be the Luna

He let out a scoff

Tll tell Mateo to send you lk. I have a lot of work to do. Get out, he said in a dismissive tone and I stared at him in shock. Was he really going to pay Ik for agreeing to the contract? What does he really think of me? If only the pack wasn’t in danger…

You’re horrible.I spat before storming out of the room. Alpha Dawn is nothing short of a monster. He doesn’t give a damn about my life at all. I agreed to the contract and yet it still seemed like I didn’t have my independence. There was really nothing to gain from this contract marriage other than my freedom. Nothing more

I slumped on my bed in annoyance. But before I could even blink, a knock came from the door

Come in,I called out

The door creaked open, and just as I suspected, Ruby stepped in I mean, she was literally the only person. But something was off. Her hands trembled, and her eyes darted around the room like she couldn’t bear to meet mine, I frowned, my chest tightening with a growing sense of unease. What could possibly be wrong? I just hope it wasn’t some bad news related to the sick pack members

The seershe started, her voice barely a whisper. That was all it took for me to sit down, my pulse quickening

Is she back?I asked, my words rushing out, but Ruby didn’t answer right away. Instead, she bit her lip, her face pale as if delivering news that would shatter me

The seersheHer voice faltered again, and my heart hammered in my chest, each second stretching painfully as dread coiled tighter around me

Ruby, what happened?!My voice rose, and the fear in her eyes sent chills down my spine
