“I really am allergic to peaches; Dad knows that,” Lydia cried, clutching her face. “Jennifer had the housemaid smear peach juice on my bed, and Dad was the one who found out…! Η
“Still lying!”
Lucas suddenly stepped forward and grabbed Lydia by the collar, lifting her nearly off the ground.
“Lucas… you’re hurting me. I can’t breathe,” Lydia whimpered, her voice choked.
Lucas stared down at her, his handsome face twisting in anger. “Lydia, did you forget you’re wearing Jennifer’s favorite perfume? The same one I bought her countless times?”
“Only, I forgot about it.”
He let out a bitter laugh. He had forgotten so much.
He had forgotten how deeply Jennifer had loved him, how much she had given to be with him.
He had forgotten their three years of love and devotion, her hopes of marrying him.
He had forgotten her silent tears when he ended things, how she accepted it all without a word.
He had forgotten the girl he once cherished so much–the one who was so gentle and kind.
He had forgotten all this, and now he was paying the price.
“This perfume has white peach and gardenia as its middle notes,” he said. “If you’re allergic to peaches, how could you wear it every day without any reaction?”
Lydia’s eyes widened in shock. Her face turned pale, and she began trembling uncontrollably.
“So, from the very beginning, you lied
“You plotted against her, deceived me, and even tricked your father.”
“Lydia, I must have been blind to ever care for someone as manipulative as you.”
Lucas let go, forcefully pushing her away,
Lydia fell to the floor, too stunned to come up with a single excuse.
The truth was clear, she’d been wearing this perfume daily,
“I’ll make sure everyone knows who you really are.!
With one last cold look, Lucas turned and stormed out, leaving her behind.
The driver sped through the night and dropped Lucas off at jennifer’s apartment building
He looked up at her dark window; there was no light
Maybe she was asleep, but Lucas wasn’t ready to give up.
He just wanted to see her right away, to apologize, admit his mistakes, and beg for her forgiveness. But no matter how many times he rang the bell or knocked on her door, Jennifer never answered.
