Chapter 7
Stella tried to hold onto Shaun’s arm, but he pulled away
He embarrassed her in front of everyone. Her ego made her tear up right away.
“I would like to say something. My wife can’t be here today because she’s sick. Please excuse her.
“The rumors online about our divorce are completely false.”
Seeing that made me feel sick.
I turned off the TV and went to sleep.
The next day, I got ready and went to the hospital.
While cleaning my mother’s body, I heard someone knock on the door in urgency.
It was Shaun.
I tried to close the door, but he blocked it with his arm.
“Quiana, you need to listen to me!” he said urgently. “Jaxon is hurt! He’s in the room next door!”
I only saw then that Shaun’s hands were covered in blood
As a mother, I could not just ignore that.
I quickly followed Shaun into the next room.
When I entered, Jaxon ran up to me and hugged me.
“Mom! You came to see me!”
Jaxon was in a hospital gown, but he looked healthy. He did not seem sick at all.
I checked on Jaxon and then looked at Shaun’s hands, which he was hiding behind his back.
“Show me your hands.”
He hesitated and said, “Jaxon, didn’t we agree that you’d lie still in bed and not move around?”
That was when I realized they were both tricking me.
“Shaun, is this fun for you?”
Shaun pleaded, “Quíana, I had no choice. We know we were wrong. You still care about Jaxon, and he needs
his mom!”
He was finally admitting he was wrong, but all I felt was anger.
With all my strength, I slapped him hard,
“Is it fun to trick me with something like this?!
“You make me sick, Shaun!”
Jaxon stood frozen in shock. “Dad Mom…”

Shaun ignored the pain and was confused.
“Quiana, I can feel it. If I don’t hold onto you this time, it’s over for us.”
I scoffed. “We’ve been done for a long time, Shaun. Have you forgotten? We finalized the divorce. Why are you pretending to care about me now? Just go away. I don’t have time for you.”
“I was wrong! It’s all my fault! What do I need to do for you to forgive me?”
“If you die, I’ll forgive you.”
His face twisted in pain. “How did we get here? Quiana, why do you hate me so much?”
I smirked. “You can ask that when you go to hell.”
When I left Jaxon’s hospital room, I noticed Stella standing outside my mother’s room for a long time.
“Quiana, Lcame here to talk to you.” She dropped her pretense and sneered. “I hope you’ll leave Soriah. Mom and Shaun don’t need you.”
I chuckled and said, “Looks like you’re finally dropping the act, Stella.”
She said angrily, “Why did you suddenly come into my life again? If it weren’t for you, things wouldn’t be like this! Mom has been worried about you, and she asked me to check on you! Shaun has been lost and unhappy because of you!”
Her face twisted in rage and disbelief.
“Quiana, I’ve spent years driving a wedge between you and Mom, and I belittled you in front of Jaxon. But even now, they still care about you. What did you do to make them side with you?”
“Stella, I couldn’t care less about your messed–up family.” I pointed behind her. “Oh, and by the way, Shaun is
also in the hospital.”
Her face went pale. She turned to see Shaun standing behind her with an angry face.
“Shaun, let me explain. It’s not what you think!”
“Stella, what else is there to say? I can’t believe you’ve been lying to me for so long. I even defended you!”
She held onto Shaun’s sleeve, and tears streamed down her face. “No, Shaun! It’s all a misunderstanding!”
“Get out of here! I never want to see you again!”
Their argument caught the attention of the doctors.
Security quickly stepped in to break them away.
Shaun no longer looked angry, and he seemed defeated.
“Ms. Johnston! Your mom is in a critical condition!”
A young nurse rushed to me in panic.

Shaun’s face changed at the words.
He broke free from security and ran to my side.
He pleaded, “Doctor, you have to save her no matter what
