Chapter 6
My phone kept buzzing with messages from Dad asking me to go on blind dates. I brushed him off with a quick response before calling up my lawyer.
“I’ll press charges as per the law. The court will decide what’s a fair punishment.”
“No… Don’t…” Gigi cried out.
After glancing at the terror–stricken Gigi, Donald gritted his teeth and kneeled before me. Clutching one of my pant legs, he looked at me with slightly reddened eyes and said, “I’ve never begged anyone for anything before. I admit I was wrong this time, Jeanette. Can you please spare Gigi?
“She’s still so young, and life in prison is hard. She’s already so frail and skinny. What will happen to her if she goes to prison? Can you really bear to do that to her?”
Having witnessed the whole situation, Frank and Martha knew I was no longer the meek and submissive Jeanette I used to be. They quickly tried to drag Donald off with them
“Why wouldn’t I bear to do that to her?” I questioned Donald as I eyed him coldly. “If you feel so bad for her, why don’t you join her? You can be a pair of ill–fated lovebirds! You’re already preparing for your wedding, aren’t you? You can just start living out your vows early, can’t you? Be there for each other for better or for worse?”
When Donald realized I didn’t feel a shred of compassion toward him, he immediately clammed up. His eyes flickered around evasively.
“If you dare not do it, then get the hell out of the way. Don’t bother putting on an act.”
I should’ve seen through his façade and realized his true nature sooner.
Gigi’s head was lowered, so her expression was hidden, but her anger and resentment were palpable.
“You can’t just abandon me like this, Donald! I did it for you!”
“That’s enough! Gigi, you’ll only have to pay a fine and spend a few days in there. Meanwhile, Jeanette’s right hand is… At the end of the day, you owe her. You’re just getting what you deserve.”
I watched in cold indifference as the two of them turned on each other. It was so entertaining to be an unaffected
bystander.
Before I left, Frank and Martha grabbed me with anxious expressions.
“Who on earth are you, Jeanette?”
Since things had come to this, I didn’t bother hiding my identity anymore. Once I told them who my family was, they both exclaimed in shock.
“Oh, my! See, I always said you were a smart one with a brilliant future ahead of you,” Martha gushed. “Let’s just proceed with the wedding plans, Jeanette.”
“We adore you so much. You know, from the moment I saw you, you felt like a daughter to me! Shawn, come over here and greet your sister,” Frank said.
I cocked my brows, and with an insincere smile, I asked, “You want to be my in–laws?”
Frank and Martha eagerly nodded.
“Alright. How’s this? If you get on your knees and bow at my feet, I’ll consider it. If I’m not mistaken, you two work for one of the companies owned by my family. I can easily arrange for a promotion with a snap of my fingers.

Frank’s eyes gleamed with greed. He happily obliged and took a few steps back before prostrating himself in front of me. As if afraid that wouldn’t satisfy me, he even pulled Martha down to join him before looking at me with a sycophantic expression.
Donald was the only one who looked thunderstruck.
“Jeanette! Don’t push it. They’re my parents!”
“Oh, shut up!” Martha shrieked before slapping Donald. “You can’t even keep a woman happy! Why the hell did I give birth to a son like you? How dare you speak to her in such a manner?”
It had all happened so quickly, and the sudden turn of events made Donald choke up. Tears glistened in his eyes. It looked as if he was going to expect me to try and comfort him.
The thought of that made me lose all interest in playing around with them. I kicked Frank in the stomach to get him out of the way.
“Get lost! I can’t believe you actually believed me. If I’m not mistaken, you often commented on my poor upbringing, didn’t you? Well, sadly for you, you’re right.”
Like they said, I wasn’t raised right. I didn’t care about showing kindness or respect to others just because they were older or younger than me. I believed in giving an eye for an eye!
Before leaving, I took the gold necklace from Gigi and shattered it right before their eyes.
“The things you people desire are nothing more than trash that’s not even worthy of my eyes.”
