I did not doubt that Janice would argue with David over this.
David hired a lawyer and posted online: [I won’t let you get away with this!]
Worried, I tugged on Mom’s clothes. “Mom, how are our chances against him?”
Mom had a relaxed smile on her face. “Silly girl. Between a three thousand dollar lawyer and a thirty thousand dollar lawyer, what do you think?”
She had a point. She did not leave David an extra cent and had David’s and Janice’s cards stopped. She even chased them out of the villa, as the estate was under her name.
David had a limited amount of cash on him. Their finances would run thin soon.
I heard that netizens were especially ruthless, and Janice did not dare to leave the house at all.
Some even went to cause a stir where they stayed, and a video of them arguing got posted online.
Janice wanted to get an abortion, but David told her to calm down and swore that he had never lost a lawsuit.
“I already had some of my assets arranged for you. You’ll get the money as long as you keep the baby and we stay married. Or else! You won’t be getting a single cent, and you’ll have to pay Yvonne what you owe her!”
This was one of the few times I agreed with David. Let them be each other’s karma. Others don’t deserve to have their lives ruined because of these two.
I knew what Mom was capable of, too. If David had extra money, he would have been able to afford a better lawyer. What he told Janice was a lie.
I switched off my phone and opened the car doors.
My identity as the heir to Sylvia Group was no longer a secret, and I had gained a few fans after Mom’s decisive divorce spread online.
I became the classmate everyone respected, while Janice was the one everyone despised.
After everything that happened, I thought she would hide at home. It seemed like I had underestimated her boldness.
Outside the classroom, I heard her boast, “So what? I’m still his wife! I worked hard to get to where I stand today! And do you honestly think that an old woman can lead a company?
“Don’t believe her lies! She’ll come begging for my husband’s help sooner or later. That company was her family’s work; she won’t let it go bankrupt!
“What does a housewife know about business anyway?”
Our classmates were doubtful, but no one dared to mock her.
After all, Janice might have been a mistress, but her husband used to own the largest conglomerate in the country. Not to forget that people online love to exaggerate.
I ignored them and walked to my seat.
“Would you look at that, my darling daughter! Where are your manners? How could you ignore your mother? What did I expect from that old woman’s daughter, hmph!”
