Chapter 7
“Hmm, that makes sense,” I said as it dawned on me.
“Could it be that Lionel got involved with the college student first, and then dumped Sandra?”
Felicia clicked her tongue. “Bingo. He’s a man addicted to cheating. How could he be content with just one woman?”
She paused.
“Honestly, apart from you, Lionel’s taste in women hasn’t changed. That college student just started interning at their company and her attitude is just like Sandra’s.
“She gives off main character energy.”
I sighed, now somewhat curious about Sandra. “Did Sandra really transfer the house back to Lionel?”
Felicia scoffed.
“Sandra isn’t stupid. There’s no way she’d give up that house for him so easily. She went to extremes–splashed the Benz and Lionel’s current place with blood. The car

was totaled.

“As for the kid, well, Sandra’s never been the type to care about children anyway.
“When Lionel saw how ruthless she was, he didn’t dare bring up the house again.”
The luxury car worth nearly half a million was destroyed just like that.
It might not have been a significant sum for Lionel but it was enough to upset him for a few days.
He had met his match in Sandra.
At the end of the month, my lawyer told me to fly in for the court hearing.
Everything was progressing smoothly, and to my surprise, Lionel’s new girlfriend, Elise Watson, had come along too.
Just as Felicia had described, Elise was the “mean girl” archetype.
She appeared pure and innocent at first glance, but her eyes betrayed her.
When Lionel saw me, I caught the regret that flickered momentarily in his face.
Elise, afraid I would steal her “perfect man,” clung to Lionel’s arm and threw a subtle challenge my way.
“Misha Summer” she began, “I’ve heard all about you from Lionel. You’ve always clung to him, constantly reminding him of the miscarriage you had. You like playing the victim.”
She smiled smugly. “But Lionel doesn’t love you. He loves me. I’m sure you’re very jealous right now, but after your divorce, I hope you’ll have the sense not to disturb us again.”
I glanced at Lionel, who looked away guiltily.
I smiled. “I wish you both a long and happy life. Maybe you’d even be blessed with a child or two.”
As I turned to leave, Feilcia grabbed my hand and stared coldly at Elise.
“You say Lionel loves you, but did he buy you a house? Did he tell you he transferred
a luxury apartment to his first love? You’re embarrassing yourself, lady.”
Elise looked like she had been slapped. She shot an angry glance at Lionel.
Felicia linked her arms with mine as we left,
Elise’s shouting followed us all the way to the car.
I had booked a flight back to Amazonite that evening.

As I had a bit of time before leaving for the airport, I picked up the newspaper in my
room.
[A female college student, suspected of being emotionally distressed by her unfaithful boyfriend, forcibly broke into his mistress’s home and attacked her. The man intervened, but tragically, the incident resulted in one dead and one injured.]
I glanced at the picture and recognized the familiar living room setting.
I froze for a few seconds, unable to comprehend the situation.
I couldn’t figure out who was dead or who was injured.
It wasn’t until some resourceful netizens dug up the details online that I pieced it all together.
Apparently, after Lionel moved out of the luxury apartment, Sandra immediately moved in.
When Elise found out Lionel had bought a property for Sandra, she became insanely jealous.
Somehow, she tracked down the address of the apartment, barged in without a word, and demanded Sandra transfer the property into her name.
Lionel tried to stop her, but as they struggled, Sandra ran to the kitchen and grabbed a knife.
The sight of it turned Lionel pale with fear.
But Elise, emboldened by her reckless confidence, didn’t back down.
She stood with her hands on her hips and yelled, “You filthy mistress! If you had any shame, you’d sign over the house to me. Otherwise, I’ll have people harass you until you give it up!”
Sandra rushed at Elise, knife in hand.
“Who’s the mistress, bitch? You wouldn’t be with him if it weren’t for me!” Sandra yelled.
Elise dodged the attack but the knife struck Lionel instead, lodging deep into his body.
She immediately reached out to slap Sandra.
They were tangled up until Elise shoved Sandra off the balcony.
She fell and died on the spot from her injuries.
The police arrived quickly, sealed off the scene, and immediately took Elise into custody.

When Felicia heard about it, she called me right away, troubled by the news.
“I just found out that Sandra had bipolar disorder. If I hadn’t mentioned the house to Elise, maybe this tragedy wouldn’t have happened.”
Felicia, though sharp–tongued, was always warm–hearted.
I reassured her and thanked her for always having my back.
“You were right to speak up, Felicia. If Elise hadn’t provoked me at the courthouse, she wouldn’t have gotten into such a temper and gone after Sandra. It’s all her own doing.
“She brought it upon herself,” I added.
I thought about it for a moment.
What had truly made me decide to divorce Lionel was the issue of the house.
In the end, it was also the house that marked the end of everything.
It felt as if it had been destined all along.
The murder case concluded with both Elise and Lionel being sentenced to prison.
Eight days later, I received the divorce decree in my favor.
Felicia waited for me outside the courthouse.
She linked her arm with mine and handed me a bouquet of sunflowers.
“Congratulations, Misha. Time to embrace a new beginning.”
“Yes, to new beginnings!”
I took the flowers and clasped her hand in mine.
I flashed her a smile and felt the weight finally lift from
my
shoulders.
