Chapter 4
Before he could finish his sentence, the door in the hallway swung open. Alyssa poked her head out of my brightly–lit room.
She covered her mouth, looking a bit surprised. “Mr. Harrington and Miss Brown.”
Matthew seemed annoyed. “You’ve been in the room. What else do you need?”
Alyssa pretended to be innocent. “There’s a video conference at the Towara branch. You might have to attend in person, Mr. Harrington.”
Matthew glanced at me in his arms and gently set me down. My body tensed up, and I couldn’t find my voice for a moment.
“Go to my room and wait for me.”
After saying that, Matthew walked towards Alyssa. They went into the room and closed the door.
As the bright light disappeared down the hallway, a wave of relief washed over me, and cold sweat soaked through my clothes.
Matthew wouldn’t come back to me tonight. I knew it well. I knew Alyssa’s tricks too. She had pulled him away countless times on my birthday and graduation.

Maybe Matthew really wanted to leave, or maybe he didn’t want to come back. Anyway, I didn’t care the answer anymore…
As for me, I needed to leave as soon as possible, somewhere far away from Matthew. I was terrified of seeing him again because it would break me and push me over the edge.
I sat on the bed in the guest room until three o’clock in the morning, but there was still no movement in Matthew’s room next door.
During this period, I used the phone Danielle bought for me, logged into an application, and found an apartment for rent with good security.
At dawn, the Harrington Manor was very quiet. I carried my leather shoes and went out barefoot.
After going outside, I suddenly saw someone leaning on Matthew’s car and playing with the phone. I was shocked and was so afraid that person was Matthew.
The man heard the movement and looked at me. Only then did I find it was Noah.
Pretending nothing happened, I walked past him and went to the roadside to hail a taxi, but he followed me.
“Miss Brown?
Chapter 4 I didn’t reply.
“Does Mr. Harrington know you…”
“Can you not tell Matthew?”
I held back the excitement and could almost escape. I really didn’t know why I was so unlucky to meet him there.
Noah was a little confused. “Mr. Harrington will be worried.”
I shook my head hard and started taking off my clothes.

Noah hurriedly backed away and turned his head with flushing ears. “Miss Brown, what are you doing?”
I didn’t care about the shame because I wanted to be alive. My pride had been worn out by Matthew a long time ago.
“He won’t worry about me. These scars were all left by those kidnappers acquiesced by him.”
Noah looked at me with widened eyes. Underneath my coat was a white sleeveless vest, which exposed the whip marks, swollen bruises, and a few scab scars on my arms.
He looked in disbelief as if he had never seen these shocking scars before.
While he was in a daze, I put back on my clothes quickly and begged, “Noah, please. Let me go. Otherwise, I will die.”

This was the first time I called his name. I used to call him Matthew’s flunky, just like the way those kidnappers called me.
Noah was lost for words for a long while. I hurried to the side of the road to hail a taxi. Suddenly, he held my hand and withdrew it after realizing there were scars underneath my coat.
I almost burst into tears. “Don’t…”
Noah gritted his teeth and said in a firm tone, “There’s no taxi at this time. Let me send you.”
I didn’t expect he would offer to send me.
I got into Matthew’s car again with mixed feelings, and Noah turned off the driving recorder just in case.
“Put up with it for a while. We’ll be there soon.”
He thought I resisted taking Matthew’s car, which was the truth, but I could stand it as long as I could escape from Matthew and the Harrington family.
After arriving at the downstairs of the apartment, I sent a text message to the agent, saying that I wanted to live in directly. For performance, the agent showed up at the gate early in the morning with the contract and keys, waiting for us with a smile.
Noah was worried about me and followed me up to look at the house. It was a well–decorated loft. Although it was small, it was fully furnished.

“It has 1290 feet squares, which is the largest apartment in the community. Miss Brown, it’s big enough no matter if you live by yourself or with your boyfriend.”
I looked at Noah, who was silently looking down at the contract in hand. He asked the agent about water, electricity, and air conditioning and then handed the contract to me after making sure there was no problem.
Without knowing why, I trusted him a lot. Maybe it was because he had such a good temper every time I beat him when he pulled me out of Matthew’s office. Or maybe it was because he found me in the bar under Matthew’s command and beat up those men who wanted to do something to me.
Without thinking too much, I signed quickly, took out my bank card, and gave it to the agent. He swiped the card on the POS machine and left with joy after flattering me and Noah.
Only Noah and I were left in the empty room. He suddenly became a little embarrassed.
