Chapter 7
Noah was a man of his word. His cooking skills were superb, and he could make even the simplest soup taste amazing.
Thanks to him, I felt that my body had recovered significantly during this period.
However, as I was about to have my third bowl of soup for lunch today, Noah stopped me.
He grinned and narrowed his eyes. “Did you want to sneak in more soup while I was making juice?”
I put down the bowl, feeling disappointed that my plan had failed. Noah put down the half–cut fruits in his hands and walked over. “I’ll wash the dishes. Go to watch TV on the sofa.”
I nodded reluctantly. Suddenly, he grabbed me and pulled me back towards him, trapping me between himself and the sink.
“Are you ignoring me just because I stopped you from eating more soup?”
I didn’t say anything and pouted, looking away.
He laughed out loud. “The doctor said you can start having regular meals from tomorrow on. I’ll take you out to the restaurant I said before.”

My eyes lit up. “Really?”
“Yes.”

Noah, beaming with affection, let me go. Then he urged me to the sofa and patted my back before hurrying back to the kitchen to resume his chores.
I sat on the sofa and started fiddling with the bank card my parents left me. Apart from the money that secured my livelihood, it was also a keepsake of sorts.
I suddenly felt like a blessed person. My parents‘ love never left me, even though they had passed away. They were still planning my future before the accident.
Noah was like a gift from them.
I put away the bank card. Since it was my wedding gift, I had to take good care of it.
The news channel was playing on TV, but when it started

[After being kidnapped, the lady of Harrington Group walked barefoot back to the city, looking crazy and nothing like her former self.]
I turned off the TV angrily and began to breathe heavily. I told myself that it was all over and that I would never see those people or Matthew again.

It took me a while to calm down. My heart rate finally returned to normal. At this moment, the doorbell rang.
I guessed it was probably another delivery that Noah had ordered. After all, since I moved in, the entire apartment had been designed and arranged by him.
Without much thought, I got up to answer the door, only to see someone I didn’t want outside.
Alyssa was carrying several bags of fruit and smiling brightly when she saw me. “Miss Brown! I heard you were hospitalized for a while, right? I came to visit you specially.”
I asked coldly, “How did you know?”
Alyssa thought for a moment and put on a naive look. “Of course, Mr. Harrington told me.”
My heart pounded like a drum.
How did Matthew know? Was he monitoring me? If Alyssa knew my address, did that mean he knew, too? Was he coming to find
me?
“Get out…” I tried to squeeze out two words, wanting to close the door.
But Alyssa pushed back. After being scolded, she finally dropped her pretense and became vicious. “Skylar, Mr. Harrington already knows your address. You’d better move out quickly and stop shamelessly pestering him.”

Alyssa snorted disdainfully, “Not? Those kidnappers hurt you badly, didn’t they? I heard they used batons, whips, and even the curling iron from your bag, which burned your skin. It must hurt, right? They fed you spoiled food that even dogs would refuse, but you still ate it.”
In shock, my eyes were wide open, and I could barely stand. Alyssa had torn off the fig leaf of what I least wanted to remember.
“How did you know?”
Alyssa looked smug. “I suggested to Mr. Harrington to delay paying the ransom so that you could suffer more. You’re such a spoiled and arrogant woman, always shamelessly pestering him! So I hinted to those kidnappers that the more violently they hit you, the faster the money would come.”
I almost collapsed. Why? Why did she do this? Why did Matthew do this?
The last shred of reason snapped in my mind. I grabbed Alyssa frantically, wanting to bite her and fall down the stairs with her to our death.
Noah heard the commotion and ran to the door. “Skylar!”
I couldn’t hear anything. My only thought was to kill Alyssa.

Noah forcibly separated us and held me in his arms. As I cried uncontrollably, he pushed Alyssa, who had lunged forward, away without mercy.
Alyssa hit the stair railing and made a loud thud, unable to stand up due to the pain.
“What are you doing?”
A stern voice interrupted us. Matthew, still in his suit and leather shoes, emerged coolly, a sharp contrast to my every embarrassing moment. How miserable I was!
