Rewriting the Scandal Chapter 8

Chapter 8

That night, the video of Rose and Hugo started spreading like wildfire online

Melanie and I wrote up the whole story as a post and shared it on the confession wall. We didn’t post it just on our college’s confession wall, but also on several other colleges in the area. Melanie had her own marketing account, and we threw all our money into boosting the post. In an instant, the whole situation went viral

I became an overnight sensation

A lot of girls praised me, calling me brave and saying my actions were a textbook example of fighting against malicious rumors. As I gained more attention, Rose and Hugo’s reputations sank lower and lower

It didn’t take long for Rose to drop out of college. I heard her family came from a very traditional background, where her academic achievements were their pride since she was a child. They were counting on their daughter to bring success to the family and often bragged about it to others

But when she got to college, she lacked selfcontrol and was dazzled by the temptations of the flashy world around her. She didn’t want to study anymore, yet she still wanted to keep up the image of a top student

Eventually, she went down the wrong path

After she went back home, her parents didn’t accept her anymore. The neighbors whispered about her, and the online bullying completely shattered her sense of selfworth. One morning, she snapped and grabbed a knife, then went out and attacked people at random. No one was seriously hurt, but she was sent to a psychiatric hospital

Hugo’s fall from grace was even worse

As the story gained more traction, several students came forward, accusing him of harassment. The college suspended him and set up an investigation. They uncovered not only his history of bribery but also his long- standing pattern of harassing women

The worst part? It turned out he didn’t just target students he had been trying to seduce a neighbor’s underage child

Hugo was arrested and sent to jail

Hugo and Rose weren’t the only ones to suffer a setback in their life. Two weeks later, even Harvey dropped out of college

Even though it was already a tragedy that he had been cheated on, his actions of spying on the female dorms quickly became common knowledge around college

Every girl was cursing him. Sometimes, when he walked through campus, people would stop him just to hurl insults and mock his family. His roommates were dragged into the mess too, and no one wanted to get caught up in his bad luck, so they all switched dorms

Harvey couldn’t handle the isolation and the public shaming, so he chose to drop out

But before he left, he actually went and beat up the student union president. He claimed it was revenge for the humiliation he had suffered. After the beating, he found out it wasn’t just the student union presidentRose had been unruly and had hooked up with multiple other guys

Turned out that she was the real campus bicycle in the college

Harvey’s entire worldview shattered that day. From that moment on, he couldn’t bring himself to like any girl

As for me? I felt nothing but satisfaction. It was sweet, sweet revenge

The rest of my time in college was spent focused on my studies, working parttime jobs, and securing as many scholarships as I could. In my senior year, I was accepted into a university abroad

Over the next two years, my parents tried to mend things with me. But I knew better. They weren’t really trying to make amendsthey were just tired of being judged by everyone around them

Years passed, and I stayed abroad. I met a wonderful man who loved me, and together we had a beautiful son

Whenever my parents called, I kept it short, offering polite but distant responses. When they mentioned visiting, I made up an excuse to avoid it. Even as they grew older and fell ill, I didn’t go back to see them

People called me heartless and even cruel for not showing more compassion toward them. However, they never experienced the kind of despair I did, so they had no right to judge me

It wasn’t until my parents passed away that I finally returned to this land I loved
