I stared at Alpha Leon, caught between surprise and guilt. “So… you saw everything?”
“Yes,” he replied without hesitation, his tone steady.
Alpha Esmond, noticing the closeness between us, rose from the ground, his eyes bloodshot. He demanded, “Who is he?”

“Oh, the audacity…” came a familiar voice from behind us.
Alpha Esmond froze as my brother strode into view, a baseball bat casually resting on his shoulder.
Alpha Leon and I turned to face him, and I immediately stepped forward, worried. “What are you doing here?”
My brother smirked, but it wasn’t friendly. “I’ve been listening,” he said, his gaze cutting to Alpha Esmond. “And I’ve heard enough.”
I moved to stop him, but Alpha Leon gently guided me back with his arm still securely around my waist.

brutal!” I hissed.
Alpha Leon chuckled softly, his calmness almost unsettling. “Don’t worry. He won’t go too far. And if he does…” He pulled out his phone and made a quick call. “In front of Nancy’s family’s house. Send an ambulance to standby.”
I gawked at him, speechless.
Alpha Esmond’s face twisted in anger and disbelief. He turned his attention back to me, his desperation flaring. “Nancy, we haven’t broken up yet, have we? Our relationship isn’t over. You can’t marry someone else. Even if he’s your fiancé, you should call off the engagement.”

sickening thud, and Alpha Esmond collapsed to the ground, screaming in pain.
“I’ve been patient, but this? This is the last straw,” my brother snarled, standing over Alpha Esmond. “It’s bad enough you lied to my sister, but laying a hand on her? You’re lucky I don’t break every bone in your body.”
With that, he raised the bat again and struck Alpha Esmond’s other leg. Alpha Esmond groaned in agony but still managed to lift his head, his glassy eyes finding mine.

I pried free from Alpha Leon’s grip and marched toward Alpha Esmond, crouching in front of him. Before he could utter another word, I slapped him across the face with all the strength I could muster.
“That slap repays the debt,” I said coldly. “We’re even now.”
I stood, glaring down at him. “As for your claim that we never officially broke up–well, I didn’t think it was necessary. You never acknowledged me as your mate in the first place. He didn’t even mark me. What was there to end?”
Leaning closer, I added, my tone steely, “Let me be clear, Alpha Esmond. I don’t love you anymore. Don’t come looking for me again.”

I turned and grabbed my brother’s arm, tugging him toward the house. “You really want to get a manslaughter charge over someone like him?” I snapped when he resisted.
Grinding his teeth, my brother finally dropped the bat–but not before crouching over Esmond and landing a few solid punches to his already bruised face.
Satisfied, he stood, brushing his hands
off as Alpha Leon signaled to the waiting ambulance. Four medics rushed forward with a stretcher, quickly tending to Esmond’s injuries.
As we turned to head back inside, Alpha Esmond suddenly shouted at Alpha Leon, “I was with her for seven years. Don’t you find it revolting to marry her?”

Both Alpha Leon and my brother whipped around. I quickly grabbed my brother to stop him, but I didn’t expect Alpha Leon’s reaction.
He strode back to Esmond without hesitation, his calm demeanor replaced by a cold fury. Planting his foot on Esmond’s injured leg, he pressed down hard, eliciting a fresh scream of pain.
“You’re a disgrace to Alpha, Alpha Leon said, his voice low and venomous. “Don’t worry -I’ll make sure you watch her live a life so happy it will drive you insane with envy.“”
He turned to the medics and barked, “Take him.”
Once Alpha Esmond was out of sight, Alpha Leon turned back, gently taking my hand in his.

“Let’s skip going back inside. I’ll take you shopping,” he said with a calm smile.
I blinked, stunned. After everything that had just happened, he didn’t ask any questions or say anything else–just wanted to take me shopping?
