Chapter 84
Walking into the
into the prosecutor’s office, I was nervous. Seymour walked next to me. We had met up at Hunter’s office and drove to our meeting together. We signed in and was asked to wait
“It will be fine.” Seymour told me as we sat down on an uncomfortable coach. I took a deep breath and nodded. We waited for almost half an hour before a man and a woman case walking up to us
“Miss Tishop?” the woman asked and reach out her hand. I shook it.
“yes” I said as 1 shook the man’s hand. “My attenney Seymour Minington,” I said as I sor the both of them look at him.
Emma Wayland and Tim Jones,” Emma said.
“This is just a preliminary
ry interview. There is no need for your attorney to be present,” Tim said.
“Miss Bishop is aware of the seriousness of the accusations against her ex–husband and feels it prudent for me to be here,” Seymour said. No one objected, and we were shonen into a meeting room and offered coffee.
“As you apparently know, your ex–husband, Simon Hunting, has been arrested. We wanted to talk to you in regards to what information you have about his crimes,” Tim started after we all got seated, I nodded and waited for them to continue…
“When the two of you were married, did you know what his business did?” Emma asked.
“I knew what he told me it did. But I now know I didn’t know about it’s true business,” I said.
“What did you think his business was?”
“Import and sales of luxury items,” I answered honestly.
“And when did you learn that was not the case?” Emma asked.
“I didn’t know for sure until recently,” I said.
“You were
were questioned by the police about Mr Hunting a couple of months ago. Didn’t that make you suspicious? Tim wanted to know
“I suspected Simon to be up to something, yes, but you asked specifically about his business and the first time I was questioned there was no mention of his business so I had no idea it was connected to it,” I explained and saw a twitch in Seymour’s lips as he tried not to smile.
“Right,” Tim said.
“Understandable. But you did suspect something was wrong after the first contact with the detectives? Emma asked.
“Yes.” Their questions kept coming. They asked about how involved 1 had been in the business, which was easy to answer as I hadn’t been involved at all, they still tried to ask details of me. It was surprisingly exhausting.
“Why did your marriage end?” Tim suddenly asked. The change of direction took me off guard for a moment. I knew questions like it were bound to happen but 1 didn’t like it. It was like showing all my wounds for everyone to see.
“Simon was abusive to
as abusive to me.” I said.
“Physically or emotionally?” he asked.
“Both
“How long had it been going on?” Tim wanted to know.
“The emotional part since
| part since we started dating. The physical part started just after we got manied.”
“And you stayed so long because? I hated the question. It made me feel like was all my fault. For the first time in months the little voice in the back of my head came to life. It whispered that it was my fault. I could have left earlier. I was weak for staying and planning to have something to fall back on when I left
“I needed a way out that let me survive. I had no family that could help me.” I said

“So you made sure you would get the business? Tim asked.
“No. I made sure I had an education. The business wasn’t planned,” I ud. He hummed as he made notes
“Did your relationship with Mr Gardner have anything to do with your decision to divorce Mr Hunting?” Emma asked.
“No, we didn’t know each other when I left Simon,” I told her.
“He was you father in law,” she pointed out.
“As Er as I knew, Rich Huntings was Simon’s father. Simon had never said anything about Hunter. The questions about Hunter and me continued. They wanted to know how we met and when we started dating.
“You are expecting us to believe that you started dating after you need into his place? Tim asked. I could hear his hesitation.
“He offered you to move into his place fast from the kindness of his heat?” Emma asked.
“My client can’t speak on Mr Gandner’s motives,” Seymour said in a calm voice. It was the
he had spoken since we sat down.
“Fine. Did you promise him something in return for his kindness?” Tim asked, looking at Seymour
“No.” I said.
“And the money you transferred into his account a short time before? Emma asked. I tried to relax when they asked about the money I had sent to the ma
“What about the money? I’m not sure what you are asking.” I said.
“Was it a payment for you staying at his place?” I Emma asked
“No. It was a short–term loan. Hunter explained he was in need of it and I had the money since Simon had bought back his company from me. I received the money back the other week,” I said.
“And you just lend him the money?”
“Why?” she asked.
“He had been kind to me and helped me. When I learned he needed some help and I could provide it, it was not a hard decision,” I told them.
“It was a lot of money,” Tim pointed out.
“Yes,” He sighed.
“Miss Bishop, maybe you should be a bit more cooperative,” he said.
“I’m sorry, I thought I was being cooperative,” I said.
“Answering my question with a single word?
“It a
was a lot of money. I don’t know what to answer except yes, „because you are right,” I told him. This time, Seymour couldn’t hide his smile.
“And the fact that it was a lot of money didn’t give you pause?” Emma asked.
“No, not really. I felt it was necessary to send the money. But I was happy when I got it back” We continued for a while longer and when we were finally finished and Seymour and I were escorted back to the reception, we had been in there for almost three hours,
“That went really well. You did an amazing job, Seymour told m
the as we were in his car, heading back to Hunter’s apartment.
Thank y
you. It was exhausting, I feel like a wrung rag,” I said. Seymour laughed.
“I can imagine. But I think it went as well as we could hope for Rest for a bit and eat some lunch. You will feel better ance

and when I got home, to Hunter’s apartment 1 conected myself, 1 flopped down on the couch. My phone rang and I smiled as I saw Hunters name,
“Hello. How did it go?” Hunter asked.
“Seymour told me it went well, so I’m going to go with t
that,” I said.
“I never doubted it. You sound tired,” he told me, somling worried.
“It was draining. But I will be fine after I take a moment on the couch and get some food in me.
“Okay. Do you want me to come home?” he asked.
“That’s sweet of you. But it’s not that had and after lunch I’m going to work so there is no point, I will see you
“okay, and don’t forget that I’m bringing take out, so don’t cook “
“I’m looking forward to it.” We ended the call, and I allowed myself a quick nap before 1 started with lunch and then logging into work. I had just logged off when I heard the front door open and I smiled. I walked out into the kitchen in time to see Hunter place a big bag on the counter. He saw me and smiledd. I walked right into his arms and hugged him. He closed his arms around me and hugged me tight. I took a deep breath, breathing in his spicy scent, and relaxed,
“I needed that,” 1 told him. “Welcome home. He bent down and kissed me.
“Thank you, I come bringing food and a list of apartments. If you don’t feel up to looking at the apartments, we can do that tomorrow,” he said, I wanted to push the apartments into the future. But I knew that if I did that, I would find an excuse to put it off again and again.
“No, it’s fine. Let’s eat and then we can look at then. Now tell me about your day,” I said. Ihanter told me about his day as we took out plates and set the counter. Hunter had got pasta, garlic bread, salad and tiramisu for dessert. As we ate, I told him about my day. When I was done telling him about the interview, he was chuckling
“Seymour told me you had been brilliant, and I see why,” he told me and placed a kiss on my forehead. “Ready to look at the apartments?” I nodded.
