Chapter 22: Embracing New Beginnings
**Thelma Zane’s Perspective**
As I returned to my room, my hair was carefully led back with a dark green hairband, its color complementing the velvet hues of my dress. I paused for a moment to admire my reflection in the mirror. Call it vanity, but I couldn’t deny that the person looking back at me was, indeed, quite charming. My cheeks were slightly flushed with anticipation, and my eyes sparkled with the excitement of what lay ahead.
I stepped out into the corridor, where my mother was waiting for me with a radiant smile. ” You look stunning,” she said warmly. “When you were just a baby, I always thought you were the cutest child of all. And now, you’ve grown into such a beautiful young lady.”
Her words wrapped around me like a soft embrace, but our moment was interrupted when I noticed a familiar figure approaching us. His confident stride, his neatly pressed attire, and the faint but refreshing scent of lemon that surrounded him–it was Aldrich. His scent reminded me of crushed lemon peel, a blend of freshness and subtle bitterness that seemed to suit him perfectly.
I turned to my mother with a questioning glance, but her sly smile betrayed her intent. “Your father and I wanted to personally escort you to the academy,” she explained, “but our schedules didn’t allow it. So, we asked Sir Aldrich to take on the task.”
Aldrich bowed slightly, his gesture filled with respectful elegance. “It’s my honor, Your Majesty,” he said politely.
Before I could protest or even fully process the situation, my mother left us alone, her retreat as swift as it was deliberate.
Aldrich turned to me, a teasing smile playing on his lips. “I didn’t expect to have the privilege of accompanying you to school on your first day.
I raised an eyebrow and mimicked his tone. “It’s my honor…”
He laughed heartily, his warm laughter filling the hallway. Then, his gaze softened, and he said earnestly, “You look truly beautiful today, Thelma.”
His words caught me off guard, and I quickly looked away, brushing off his compliment with a hasty reply. “Thank you for your kind words. We should get going. I don’t want to be late.”
Despite my feigned Indifference, I couldn’t deny the comfort I felt knowing Aldrich would be by my side on this unfamiliar day.
“Yes, my beautiful lady,” he said with a playful wink, his good–natured humor easing the
tension.
We walked together, the conversation flowing effortlessly. Aldrich’s presence was a soothing

balm to my nerves, and soon we arrived at the academy- a stately building nestled near the palace grounds.
Inside, we headed straight to the main office, where Aldrich approached the receptionist with quiet confidence. “I believe the King has already informed you of our arrival?” he inquired.
The receptionist nodded, her gaze shifting to me. “Is this the young lady who will be enrolling today?” she asked kindly.
“Yes,” Aldrich replied, his tone warm.
The receptionist turned to me with a gentle smile “May I have your name, please?”
“I am Thelma Zane,” I said politely. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“The pleasure is mine,” she replied, rising from her seat. “Please follow me.
Aldrich waved at me as I began to follow her. “Looks like this is where I leave you. Good luck!”
I nodded, offering him a grateful smile before turning my attention to the receptionist, who led me through the academy’s pristine corridors. The air was filled with quiet energy, the hum of conversations and the occasional burst of laughter creating a lively atmosphere.
As we walked, curious eyes followed us, and I caught snippets of whispered speculation about the new student. While their gazes didn’t feel hostile, I couldn’t ignore the flutter of nerves building in my chest.
Eventually, we reached a classroom where a group of about ten girls, all around my age, sat waiting. A poised female teacher stood at the front, exuding an air of calm authority.
“This is Thelma Zane, our new classmate,” the receptionist announced before stepping aside
to let the teacher take over.
The teacher smiled warmly and addressed the class. “Let’s welcome her with a round of applause.”
The sound of clapping filled the room, accompanied by the murmur of whispers and the weight of curious stares. I felt my cheeks heat up, the sensation of being the center of attention both exhilarating and overwhelming.
“Hello, Thelma,” the teacher continued. “I’m Miss Horace, and I’ll be your instructor this semester. If all goes well, I’ll guide you through your academic journey. Now, please take a seat so we can begin.”
I nodded and scanned the room for an empty seat, finding one near the back. As I made my way there, the low hum of chatter resumed, the other girls exchanging their thoughts about
the new arrival.
“Alright, ladies, let’s settle down,” Miss Horace said firmly, and the room quickly fell silent.
I sat down, willing myself to appear composed despite the whirlwind of emotions coursing

through me. This was my first day, and it already felt like it would be a long one. Yet, amidst the uncertainty, I couldn’t help but feel a flicker of excitement. This was a chance to make new friends, to carve out a place for myself in this new chapter of life.
Miss Horace began her lesson, and I was immediately drawn in by her engaging style. She spoke of the fascinating process by which werewolves awakened from their dormant state, their senses sharpening over time until they could communicate with their human
counterparts.
“Our senses–taste, smell, and hearing are the first to develop,” she explained. “Over time, they grow stronger, and eventually, your werewolf will wake fully, becoming a trusted companion in your life.”
Her words made me think of the subtle lemon scent I had noticed earlier on Aldrich. Could my heightened awareness of such details be a sign that my own werewolf senses were beginning to stir? The thought filled me with anticipation.
“Establishing a strong bond with your werewolf is crucial,” Miss Horace continued. “A close connection will make your transformations smoother and less painful. It’s like having a lifelong friend who understands you completely.
The idea of such a bond, a connection so deep and unshakeable, was both comforting and exhilarating. I couldn’t wait for the day when I would experience it for myself.
As the class went on, my initial nerves began to fade, replaced by a sense of curiosity and determination. This was the start of a new adventure–one filled with challenges, discoveries, and the promise of growth. And for the first time in a long while, I felt truly hopeful.
