Chapter 25
Clarissa’s wrist was wrapped in gauze, with blood stains seeping through the center of the
gauze.
Layla knew this tactic all too well. Years ago, Clarissa had repeatedly used the same wrist- slitting ploy to keep Seth by her side.
Eventually, Seth had asked Layla for a divorce just to stop Clarissa from self–harming.
What Layla didn’t expect was that even after four years, Clarissa’s pitiful act, poorly executed as ever, could still convince Seth.
It seemed true love truly made exceptions.
Layla shot a glance at Clarissa before abruptly grabbing her wrist and squeezing it hard.
“Ah!” Clarissa screamed as sharp pain radiated from her wound. The bloodstain on the gauze grew visibly larger by the second.
“Layla! How dare you hurt me? Seth will never let you get away with this!” Clarissa yelled, her voice shrill with pain.
Layla’s lips curled into a sinister smile. She said, “Since you admitted to hurting me, wouldn’t it be rude of me not to return the favor? Think of it as paying back your generous reminder.”
With that, she tightened her grip.
Clarissa, spoiled and pampered her entire life, couldn’t handle the agony.
Tears rolled down her face as she screamed louder. Blood began dripping down from the gauze.
She never imagined the once–docile, easily bullied Layla could transform into someone so sharp–tongued and reckless.
“Layla, let go! If I die, you’ll be held responsible! Clarissa cried in desperation.
Layla chuckled and shot back, “Is that so? Why don’t you go ahead and die, then? Let’s see if I’ll take responsibility.”
“Layla! It hurts! Please let go!” Clarissa wailed, her voice breaking.
Layla finally loosened her grip slightly but glared at her with ice–cold eyes. “You hurt not just me but also my daughter. Don’t you think you owe us an apology?”
Despite the pain, Clarissa gritted her teeth. “Apologize to you? Never!”
Hearing this, Layla tightened her hold again, harder this time. Clarissa felt as though her wrist might break.
“Alright! I’ll apologize!” she sobbed, her voice trembling. “I’m sorry! Is that enough?”

Only then did Layla let go, her gaze still sharp and unyielding. “Clarissa, let me warn you. Don’t mess with me again. If you do, you won’t like what happens. No one can stop me.”
With that, she gave Clarissa a hard shove and turned to leave.
Clarissa stumbled back several steps, barely managing to stay upright.
At that moment, Seth walked over. He noticed the blood seeping through Clarissa’s bandaged
wrist.
“What happened?” he asked, his tone laced with concern.
Clarissa immediately pointed at Layla’s retreating figure. “Seth, I apologized to Layla, but she wouldn’t forgive me! She almost broke my wrist! Look, the blood is pouring out again!”
At the mention of Layla’s name, Seth’s head snapped up, his eyes locking onto her slender
figure walking under the dim hallway lights
Without another word, he left Clarissa behind and rushed after Layla.
Clarissa stood frozen, her jaw dropping in disbelief. She thought Seth was going to confront Layla on her behalf, but then she heard Seth’s gentle voice.
“Layla, why are you at the hospital? Are you feeling unwell?” He hurried to her side, looking her up and down with worry.
Clarissa’s fury boiled over as she watched the scene unfold. She was the injured one, yet Sethy had completely ignored her. Instead, he had run to Layla, his concern unmistakable.
Her humiliation burned like fire.
Layla, however, didn’t seem moved by Seth’s attention. Instead, her lips curled into a mocking smirk as his words reminded her of the conversation they’d had that morning.
