Chapter 56 – Unfinished Business
Emily stood looking out at the peaceful street from the window of her recently married home. The room took on a golden tint as the sunlight filtered through the drapes. Her thoughts were anything from peaceful and comfortable, despite the fact that her house exuded these qualities.
A calm chapter in her life was meant to begin with her marriage to Albert, but the last few days had been everything but peaceful. She sighed and reached for her keys and luggage. She had no intention of going to work just yet. She needed time to take it all in, she needed answers more than anything else.
Although the uproar around the case had not quite subsided, she was thankful that Sebastian had been freed. She couldn’t put off having one last talk with Officer Davies any longer because there were still unresolved concerns and residual doubts.
She got into her car, turned on the ignition, and headed for the police station. Soft music was playing on the radio, but she was too distracted to pay attention. She thought back to her wedding night, the confusion, the charges, the terrifying meeting with Rapheal who now said she owed him money.
She gripped the steering wheel more tightly, she had to find out what had happened. Officer Davies was in the interrogation room waiting for her when she got to the station. She was somewhat reassured by his composed manner, but she could see he took this as seriously as she did by the weight in his eyes.
Her attorney, Victor Lanning, sat beside him and appeared less excited about the encounter,
“Emily” Davies greeted, gesturing for her to take a seat,
“Thanks for coming in”
She nodded, placing her bag on the table,
“I needed to”
Victor leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms,
“I don’t see why this is necessary, the case is closed. Sebastian’s free. What more do we need to discuss?”
Davies raised an eyebrow,
“If you think that’s all there is to this, Mr. Lanning, you’re welcome to leave. Emily can get another lawyer‘
Victor exhaled deeply, obviously annoyed, but remained motionless. Emily looked at him for a moment, then returned her focus to Davies.
Knowing full well that Albert would not want to hear what she had to say, she had kept this meeting a secret from him. On the table, Davies folded his hands,
“Let’s go back to the beginning. I need you to tell me everything about this debt and the man
involved”
Emily hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath,
“His name is Raphael”
Davies leaned forward slightly, listening intently,
“It started after the video of me and Sebastian went viral… the one at the party where I poured wine on him” Emily began,
“Raphael came to my office one day, he said he was impressed by my boldness and thought I had potential for something…bigger”
Davies frowned,
“Bigger?”
“He offered me a movie contract” Emily explained,
“It sounded too good to be true, and of course, it was. He said I’d have to audition… privately”
Victor scoffed,
“Audition in a hotel room, I assume?”
Emily nodded,
“He wanted it ‘in kind“” She glanced at Davies, who didn’t look surprised,
“I wasn’t proud of it, but I agreed. I asked for an upfront payment… half of what he promised, and he sent it without hesitation. I thought…I thought it was just business.”
“Did you meet him?” Davies asked,
“Yes” Emily said quietly,
“I met him at the hotel room as agreed. At first, everything was smooth. He was charming, professional, even. But then…”
She hesitated, her cheeks flushing at the memory,
He stopped in the middle of everything. Said it felt like his….uh…his dick was burning”
Victor let out a low chuckle, getting a glare from Davies. Emily continued, ignoring him,
“I remembered I’d had spicy food earlier that day. I didn’t think it would, well, you know”
Davies rubbed his temple,
“Go on”
“He got angry” Emily said,
“Really angry, he told me to leave. I didn’t argue, I packed up and left, and that was the last It heard from him… until my wedding night”
Davies leaned back, exhaling slowly,
“That’s…a lot”
“You think I’m making this up?” Emily asked,
“No” Davies said quickly,
“I believe you. It’s just…a lot to process” he picked up his pen and began to jot down,
“Movie director, private audition, burning dick” he muttered and Lanning couldn’t help but laugh once more.
Davies ignored him, focusing on Emily,
“Thank you for your cooperation. I’ll look into Raphael and see what we can find. You’ve been through enough”
Emily stood, shaking his hand,
“Thank you,
Officer Davies”
She felt a little less burdened as she walked out of the station.
She had at least started the process, even though there was still a lot to uncover.
