Chapter 10
CHAPTER 10
The day had been a very long one and yet it seemed like the night would be longer. I’d been so exhausted by everything that happened during the day and yet, I still had to wear the heavy dress, put on a fake smile and act like I was really ready to save our pack by assuming that dreaded position.
After the Alpha realised I wasn’t one to mess with which was really surprising to me as well. On a normal day, I would have been so timid and influenced to sign that death sentence but it seemed like the rejection from Alpha Dawn had given me a lot of strength, being welcomed at the Darkwater pack had showed me I wasn’t worthless and the prophecy had revealed. how important I was giving me much more strength in return.
Dawn realised he could no longer control me, he couldn’t force me and he needed me. He had no other choice than to call his lawyer to review the contract, include all my conditions and even come over to explain every content of the contract to me again while I read it to be sure it aligned to my personal thoughts and wants. After the contract signing, he announced the preparation for the mating ceremony.
It was late in the evening already and I’d totally forgot about the ceremony and even when I remembered, I expected it to be pushed to the other day since today had been eventful but then he’d insisted that people travelled down and we couldn’t push the healing till the next day. Lyra, his sister, came into the room at that moment with the ceremony dress and took pleasure in getting me ready.
“The more I look at you, the more I see the resemblance between you and Freya,” she suddenly said while applying my makeup and I rolled my eyes.
“Just because we have the same eye color, it doesn’t mean we look alike,” I said. I didn’t want to hear more about this Freya but Lyra wouldn’t stop talking about her.
“It’s not only about the eye color, your physical features are similar too. The resemblance isn’t identical or too striking but for someone who has been Freya’s childhood friend, I can see…
“Can we not talk about her?” I cut her short and she glanced at me.
Uh, true, we shouldn’t be talking about the dead on your mating ceremony day. Let’s focus on you tonight”
As we stepped out, chills ran down my spine as cold hit me. The entire pack had gathered under the full moon, their eyes. gleaming with anticipation. Alpha Dawn stood beside me, regal and powerful, his presence demanding respect. I could feel the weight of everyone’s gaze, but none felt as heavy as my own thoughts. Tonight was the night I was supposed to get my wolf Tonight was the night I was suppose to get my healing powers. Tonight was the night I ought to start the prophecy, Tonight was the night I ought to become the Luna.
ny wolf was the
Out of everything, the prophecy was the most baffling. The Luna status was the most challenging. Getting my most difficult since it should have happened over four years ago and now, the expectation was really high.
This mating ceremony wasn’t just about binding me to Dawn in the eyes of the pack. It was supposed to restore the bond that had been broken when he rejected me before. And after that bond was restored, I was supposed to receive my wolf- finally. I couldn’t wait. My heart pounded in my chest as I stood beside him. The night was a critical one.
Dawn turned to me, his face hard and unreadable as always, but there was something else in his eyes tonight. Something close to hope. He extended his hand, and I took it, feeling the familiar spark of the mating bond between us as our hands touched or was I imagining it? The mate bond hadn’t been restored yet since we had to go through the normal process and ritual first before the mating ceremony so why was I still feeling the spark of the mating bond when it had been broken already?
A murmur rippled through the pack as they watched, eager for the moment our bond would be restored. We approached two elders and the seer for the ritual process. It was actually a very quick and painful process but most of all, the bond was restored immediately. It was as if the moon goddess had been expecting us to come before her because she blessed us -instantly.

The mating ceremony started immediately after that. Everything had been going well and smoothly until it was time for the ceremony to come to an end and for me to get my wolf.
The pack’s seer, stepped forward and raised her hands toward the sky. Her voice was thick and full of ancient power as she began to chant. “Under the full moon’s gaze, the bond is restored. By the will of the Moon Goddess, let the wolf return to the one who has been chosen.”
I swallowed, my throat dry as I waited for something to happen for the surge of power, the feeling of my wolf awakening inside me. I squeezed Dawn’s hand, closing my eyes and bracing myself.
But nothing happened.
I opened my eyes, confusion creeping in. I glanced at the seer, who continued to chant, her voice growing louder, but still… nothing.
The crowd began to murmur, low whispers building into a quiet wave of doubt.
“Why isn’t it working?” someone said from the back..
“Maybe the seer was wrong.
“Is she ever a real mate?”
“Are we sure the bond was restored?”
“Is she really the Luna?”
“Is she the one in the prophecy or someone else?”
Different questions and mumbles filled my head as I tried to sort out my train of thoughts. Why wasn’t it working? Why am not feeling any power in me?
My chest tightened, and I glanced at Dawn, hoping for some reassurance, but his expression was unreadable, his jaw set in at hard line.
The seer’s chanting faltered for a moment, her brow furrowing as she looked between me and Dawn. “The wolf should be awakened by now.”
I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach. Panic began to rise in me. What if something was wrong? What if I wasn’t supposed to get my wolf? What if I wasn’t really meant to be his Luna? What if the seer had made a mistake by confusing me with someone else?
The whispers grew louder.
“She’s not the one,” a voice called out, sharp and cruel.
“I knew she couldn’t be trusted.”
“She’s a fraud.”
