Chapter 18
Roxanne knew that Sebastian had probably gone to Macy to complain. She couldn’t help but
sneer.
They were divorced, and yet he still had the nerve to go to Macy and gossip about her. He was becoming more and more shameless, and it annoyed her.
Without hesitation, she hung up the phone. Even if the sky were to fall, she had to finish her case before going back.
To avoid being disturbed, she temporarily blocked calls from her family. To further avoid being found, she stayed in Vongale Heights for a few days. Since she hadn’t brought anything with her, she even bought new clothes.
Seven days later, Nolan went to court.
As the defense attorney, she sat beside him. As expected, the evidence against Nolan was full of holes. Moreover, Juno had also hired a lawyer to defend her, claiming her innocence.
This worked in their favor, and Roxanne was well–prepared. Her responses were calm, firm,
and steady as she presented her counterarguments.
Jenson sat in the back row, observing her performance. Although this was the first case she was handling independently, her performance was impressive.
She had anticipated all the key points. In the end, it was no surprise that they won the case. When she stood up, she noticed Jenson was there.
After wrapping things up with Nolan, she walked to the roadside. “When did you arrive, Mr.
Lambert?”
“Today,” he replied, looking back at her. “Lawrence entrusted you to me, and since this is your first trial, of course, I had to see how you did.”
Roxanne asked, “Did I do okay?”
“Just barely passed.”
She blinked, surprised. She had thought he would praise her for winning the case, but instead, all she got was a “barely passed“?
That was a pretty low rating, wasn’t it?
“Well, we can go back now, right?” Jenson opened the door to the car.
Thinking about all the things waiting for her back at home, Roxanne felt a headache coming
- on.
“What’s wrong? Don’t want to go back?” Jenson noticed the frustrated look on her face.

Roxanne nodded. She just wanted to hide away, to escape. But she knew hiding wouldn’t solve anything.
“You’ve just finished your case. You can take a break today. Go to the office tomorrow.”
“Thanks, Mr. Lambert.” Roxanne bowed her head slightly to express her thanks.
As he raised the car window, a brief, almost imperceptible light flashed in his eyes just before their line of sight was completely cut off.
Roxanne drove back home. Before entering, she unblocked the numbers she had previously blocked.
When she opened the door, her parents were at the table, eating.
As soon as Macy saw her, she immediately stood up, her expression filled with anger. “Where have you been these past few days? We couldn’t get in touch with you! What’s going on?”
Roxanne felt exhaus
She coldly looked at Macy. “I just walked in, and instead of asking if
I’ve eaten, you start by scolding me. What did I do wrong to make you this angry?”
“You’re even talking back now?” Macy looked at her husband, Clifford Grayson. “Look at how your daughter is speaking to me.”
Clifford gave Roxanne a look, signaling her to calm down.
She knew Macy’s temper. She wasn’t a bad person -just someone quick–tempered who had been under pressure for too long.
With a sigh, she sat down in a chair. “Are you angry because of Sebastian? What did he tell you?
