Chapter 19
Macy quickly sat beside Roxanne and grabbed her hand. “Rox, it’s not that I’m angry with you, but you can’t be so headstrong. Look at me and your dad -we don’t have much; we’re just scraping by.
“But after you married Sebastian, we were able to move into a much better house. Now, he’s injured, but you’re not by his side to take care of him. You’re not doing your part as his wife.”
“Did he say anything else?” Roxanne asked.
“He said you’re angry with him and asked me and your dad to talk to you. He admitted his mistake to me, so just go back to him. It’s not a big deal. You just need to calm down,” Macy coaxed.
Roxanne sneered and looked at Macy. “Mom, I left Sebastian. We’ve already finalized the divorce. Why should I go back?”
Macy was stunned. Clifford also looked at her in disbelief. “Are you… divorced?”
“Rox, what happened?”
“He cheated. So we got divorced,” Roxanne said, deliberately taking out the divorce certificate, ready to be honest with Clifford and Macy.
Macy snatched the certificate from her hands, and sure enough, it said “Divorce Certificate”
“Have you lost your mind?” Macy punched Roxanne’s arm. “You need to apologize to Sebastian right now. Beg for his forgiveness-”
“Why should I beg him for forgiveness? I didn’t do anything wrong!” Roxanne looked at Macy, heartbroken. “He’s the one who cheated.”
“Sebastian isn’t just any regular person! He’s a top lawyer, comes from a rich family, and is their only child. He’s set to inherit a fortune. How can you be so stupid? Even if he’s seeing someone else, as long as you hold your ground as his wife, you’ll always be the legitimate one. Why are you scared?”
“Macy, calm down,” Clifford said, trying to calm Macy down. The lack of understanding from them made Roxanne feel exhausted and deeply hurt.
She stood up, looking at them. “I’ll make my own money and provide a good life for both of you. I don’t need a man to survive. I’ll do just fine on my own—”
“What nonsense are you saying?” Macy was furious. “When will you ever make a fortune like that? Are you dreaming? How can you make billions of dollars? It’s never going to happen!”
Roxanne stayed silent. Even if she became a top lawyer, she could never make that kind of
money.
Chapter 10
Suddenly, Macy’s eyes lit up as if she had thought of something. “If you’re divorced, doesn’t that mean he has to give you half of his family’s fortune? How much did you get?”
“Forty million.”
“Ah!” Macy let out a sharp cry. “Didn’t Ite have to give you billions?”
Roxanne looked at Macy’s greedy expression, feeling her eyes burn with frustration. “That money belongs to his family, not him. I only get what he earned during our marriage. Mom, why can’t you just be content? I’ll make money and spend it on you-”
“You don’t understand anything! How much can you even earn? Don’t you know how lucky you are? I got to shine too because of your husband.
“So many people envy me now, especially those who used to laugh at me for not having a son. Since you married Sebastian, I could finally hold my head high in front of them. Why can’t you understand what that means for me?”
Macy felt aggrieved. When she had given birth to Roxanne, she had nearly died from excessive bleeding. Because of that, she could no longer have children. Roxanne was her only child.
Not having a son had always been a source of ridicule for her.
“Do you remember how your grandmother treated me? You know she didn’t care for me. She passed away a few years ago, and things got a little better. After you married Sebastian, a rich and respectable man, I could finally hold my head high in front of relatives and friends.
“And now you’re telling me you’re divorced. What am I supposed to do with my pride now?” Macy became increasingly upset, tears streaming down her face.
Clifford tried to calm Macy. “As long as we have enough to live on, we’ll be fine. Let’s just live our own lives and not worry about what others think.”
“It’s because of that mindset of yours that you’ll never amount to anything. If you had money and power, would people look down on me?”
Clifford fell silent immediately.
Macy wiped away her tears, her eyes burning with determination as she stared at Roxanne. You need to go and make things right with Sebastian.”
Roxanne pressed her lips together not saving anything
