Chapter 20
“Answer me!” Macy pushed hard, and Roxanne lost her balance, almost falling. Even so, her arm still hit the edge of the table.
Clifford gave Roxanne a look, signaling her to leave. “Just go. Don’t argue with your mother anymore.”
Roxanne looked at him, put the divorce certificate back in her bag, and walked out the door. Behind her, she could hear Macy shouting, “I don’t care if you have to cry or beg–you have to remarry Sebastian!”
Tears suddenly fell down Roxanne’s cheeks, but she kept her back straight and refused to show weakness. She got into the car, staring blankly ahead for a long time before finally starting the engine and driving away.
She arrived at the hotel and rode the elevator to her floor. As she walked down the hall, she saw Sebastian standing in front of her room. She stopped in her tracks and immediately turned to leave.
Alas, Sebastian saw her.
“Roxanne,” he called out. “Do you think you can just run away?”
She turned around and walked toward him. “What do you want?”
He studied her face intently. It could have been the new haircut, but she seemed completely different. No longer the gentle and pure woman she had once been, now she radiated a kind of stubborn, cold beauty.
He leaned against the door. “So, this is how you plan to talk to me?”
“There’s nothing left to talk about between us,” she replied, her eyes filled with coldness, mixed with disdain and complexity.
“You don’t want to talk? That’s fine. But your mother will.” He turned to leave.
“Are you threatening me?” She clenched her fists.
He didn’t deny it. “I suppose so.”
She opened the door. “Come in then. We’ll talk.”
Sebastian smirked, pleased. Once inside, he quickly scanned the room. “This is where you’re staying?”
The hotel room was small–there was only a bed and a desk. Since she hadn’t been here in a few days, she hadn’t asked for the room to be cleaned. The window had been closed, and the room was a little messy.
She pulled open the cartains and the window.
“Sebastian, stop seeing my mom,” she said, her voice softening with a touch of pleading.
Sebastian sat down on the bed. “I can stop, but you’ll have to come back.‘
“We’re divorced,” she emphasized.
His expression turned colder. “What, you really want to be with Ambrose? Or were you already secretly seeing him?”
“Sebastian, do you think everyone is like you?” She snapped, her anger rising. “Get out!”
He looked at her with a gaze as cold as ice. He didn’t like this version of Roxanne. This new version of her felt unfamiliar, and it made him feel like he was losing her.
“Roxanne, don’t speak to me like that.”
