Chapter 21
Sebastian preferred the old version of Roxanne the one who loved him. The one who depended on him. The one who thought about him first for everything.
Roxanne sneered. “How should I speak to you then?”
He stood up and slowly approached her. She instinctively stepped back warily, but there was no space left to retreat. She tried to escape from the side, but he stretched out his arm and blocked her.
“Roxanne, the room’s this small. Where do you think you’re going? Can you really escape?”
Left with no choice, Roxanne stood her ground and tilted her head up. “What do you want? Sebastian, don’t tell me you still love me. Even if you do, I won’t love you anymore… not now,
not ever.
Sebastian grabbed her chin and asked, “Roxanne, when did you become so sharp–tongued?”
She wrenched his hand away, yelling uncontrollably, “Don’t touch me!”
He was momentarily stunned, not expecting such a strong reaction from her.
“Ugh…” She rushed into the bathroom, leaning over the sink as she vomited. Ever since she had overheard Sebastian and Lexi in bed together, she had developed a physical revulsion
toward him.
His touch made her feel disgusted.
Something inside Sebastian cracked. Did she… despise him this much?
He pressed his lips together, staring at her. After a long moment of silence, he said, “Roxanne, our divorce was just a rash decision, a temporary fit of anger. It wasn’t well thought out, so it
doesn’t count.”
With that, he left, striding out the door.
Roxanne bit her lip, looking at herself in the mirror. Her hands clenched into fists. She rushed
after him.
“Sebastian, even if you bribe my mom, I won’t ever reconcile with you. Only if I die will that ever happen!”
Sebastian’s steps faltered for a moment, his body swaying slightly. Then, he continued walking out the door.
Roxanne collapsed onto the floor. She hugged her knees tightly. Curled up, she buried her face in her legs.
Her shoulders trembled. She cried for a long time. Her voice became hoarse, and her eyes

swollen. This was the first time since the divorce that she had cried so badly.
She didn’t know how long it took, but eventually she calmed slightly and raised her head. The dim room was filled with a heavy, suffocating atmosphere.
She sniffled, wiped her tears, and gathered herself. She steadied herself by the edge of the bed and stood up. After packing her things, she took her suitcase downstairs to check out.
She placed the suitcase in the trunk and drove to her new apartment. The place was fully furnished, ready for her to move in right away.
She hung her clothes in the closet and put the daily essentials in their proper places. She even cleaned up the apartment, changed the bedsheets, and made the bed.
The fridge was empty, so she planned to go to the supermarket to fill it up. The supermarket was nearby, so she walked there.
Having been a housewife for four years, she was skilled at handling everyday tasks, like picking the best fruits and vegetables. She knew exactly which watermelon was sweet and which greens were fresh.
She bought milk, fruit, some meat, and vegetables. Carrying the bags, she walked back slowly. When she entered the neighborhood, she saw Jenson walking in the same direction.
“Mr. Lambert?” she called.
He turned around and saw her carrying bags. His gaze lingered on her eyes. “Have you been crying?”
How embarrassing!
She quickly diverted the conversation. “Ah, I was just out shopping.”
Jenson pressed his lips together and said nothing, just watching her.
It seemed like her attempt to deflect hadn’t worked. She awkwardly touched her hair. “Um, some sand got in my eyes.”
Jenson replied, “If you’d said you got stung by a bee, it would’ve sounded more believable.”
