Chapter 22
Roxanne was at a loss for words.
She quickly changed the subject. “Mr. Lambert, do you live here too?”
“Yeah,” Jenson answered softly, his gaze lingering on her face for a moment. “What about you? Which building are you in?”
Roxanne pointed to the tall building on her right “Building 1, unit 2. It’s a studio apartment.”
“I live across from you,” he replied.
She looked up at the building across the street. She had heard the landlord mention it when she had come to rent the apartment. But the building across from hers didn’t have a studio.
“Well, I’ll head up now,” she said, eager to escape. It was embarrassing to have someone see her after she had been crying.
“Alright,” Jenson said.
She quickly walked into the building. Watching her hurry away, Jenson couldn’t help but smile slightly.
She didn’t even take the elevator. She climbed up the six floors in one go, breathing heavily as she unlocked her door and entered the apartment, putting the bags on the table.
She poured herself a glass of water and gulped it down. Once she caught her breath, she realized how silly she was being. Why was she so ashamed of being seen crying?
It wasn’t such a big deal. She had just broken down for a moment. Adults were allowed to be
weak sometimes.
She was human, not a machine. Crying was understandable, right? She took a deep breath, pulled herself together, and put the groceries in the fridge.
She made herself a plate of pasta. After eating, she took a shower and went to bed early. She had been staying at a small hotel in Vongale Heights for the past few days, but with all the case -related stress, she hadn’t slept well.
This place was more expensive, but the environment was much better. There was hardly any noise at night, and she quickly fell asleep.
It was the first time since the divorce that she had slept so peacefully. The next morning, she made herself a simple sandwich and heated up some milk.
After eating, she headed to work. Since the law firm was nearby, she didn’t need to drive; she could just walk.
Living in the same neighborhood made it easy to run into each other. As she stepped out of the

building, she saw Jenson heading to the firm as well. She greeted him first. “Mr. Lambert, good morning.‘
Jenson turned to look at her.
She flashed a big smile as if saying, “I’m fine. Yesterday was just an accident.”
“Good morning,” Jenson replied.
Since they were headed to the same place, they naturally walked together. Roxanne lagged a few steps behind, following him.
He was wearing a tailored, deep blue Writish–style suit that highlighted his long legs and slim yet strong waist.
She moved a little to the side, avoiding his gaze.
At the law firm, she handed him the payment for the case she had worked on. It was just a small civil case, so the lawyer’s fee wasn’t much. She had received 20,000 dollars.
Jenson didn’t even glance at it. “This amount is so small that the accounting department would feel troubled to handle it. Just keep it yourself.”
She knew it wasn’t a lot of money, but still, it was money.
However, since her superior had said so, it wasn’t like she was pocketing the money herself.
Since she had won the case, she accepted it at ease.
Later, Jenson handed her a Juvillian document and asked her to translate it into Englian.
High Englian proficiency was required at law firms in Hyverland due to many international cases. Of course, smaller firms didn’t have such strict requirements. Roxanne had passed the
level 8 Englian proficiency exam.
At lunch, everyone went to the restaurant downstairs to eat. Roxanne received a call from Macy, asking her to join for lunch.
She didn’t want to go, but if she ignored Macy, the latter would keep calling, so she had no choice but to meet her. Macy was waiting for her at a restaurant known for its pasta.
Roxanne walked in. Before she could say anything, Macy motioned for her to sit down and eat. “Your favorite spaghetti. I made sure to add extra bacon for you.”
