Chapter 42 – The Fallout
Bailey sat on the soft armchair in the darkened living room, tapping the armrest with her fingers impatiently. Except for the slight hum of the refrigerator in the next kitchen, the room was silent. After more than an hour of waiting for Emily, she was starting to lose patience.
Emily’s arrival was confirmed by the jingling of keys in the corridor, she walked in and turned on the light as the door creaked open. Her heart almost leaped out of her chest when she saw Bailey seated there,
“Bailey!” she exclaimed,
“You scared me!”
“Sorry, girl” Bailey said, her tone calm but edged with sarcasm,
“How are you feeling?”
Emily dropped her bag onto the nearby table, her face lighting up with a mischievous grin,
“Great. You?”
“Just rounded up things at the office before coming here” Bailey replied, leaning back in the chair,
“Guess who came to see me at the hospital?”
Emily’s smile widened,
“Sebastian” she said, rolling her eyes dramatically,
“Yes” Emily said, practically bouncing as she sat down across from Bailey,
“Now guess what happened?”
“Y’all fucked?”
mock indignat Bailey said bluntly, raising an eyebrow. Emily gasped, clutching her chest in
“I was literally in an accident!”
Bailey chuckled dryly,
“Y’all are crazy as fuck, that won’t stop y’all”
“True” Emily admitted, her smile widening,
“But something even better. I told him about Albert”
The air in the room seemed to freeze as Bailey’s eyes widened in disbelief,
“You did what?!”
“Yeah” Emily said, her voice dripping with pride,
“You should’ve seen…
“No, this isn’t fucking funny, Emily!” Bailey snapped, cutting her off,
“You broke him, his marriage, his future home, his job, and his reputation… and you tell him you’re getting married?”
Emily’s smug smile faltered slightly, replaced by a defensive glare,
“My reputation was broken too. You think Albert won’t eventually hear or see the news?”
“You did that to yourself” Bailey said coldly, crossing her arms.
Emily’s eyes narrowed. “You asked me to go see him at that party, so what is up with you. anyways?”
“I said to go talk some sense into him. Find out how to get that money. Not to cause some
national ruckus.”
“Well” Emily said, flipping her hair over her shoulder,
“That national ruckus got me my money”
Bailey’s eyes narrowed,
“What? Sebastian eventually gave it to you?”
Emily leaned forward, her smile returning,
“No, not Sebastian

Emily leaned forward, her grin returning,
“No, not Sebastian”
Bailey tilted her head, a puzzled expression on her face,
“You know, Mr. Director” she said smugly.
The door of the hotel room clicked shut behind Raphael as he left it across town. His face was one of discomfort and annoyance as he straightened his shirt, he groaned as he moved to the car parked outside, his privates still kind of burning.
He slid into the backseat and Marrison looked at him in the rearview mirror,
“Are you alright, sir?” Her question was courteous but tinged with laughter. Raphael leaned back in his chair pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Uh, that stupid bitch” he muttered.
Marrison stifled a laugh, biting her lip,
