Chapter 53 – Remedying Situations
He caught Emily’s arm as she turned to go and pulled her in the direction of a car parked in the shadows nearby. She let out a scream and used all of her effort to resist his hold. Her voice echoed into the darkness as her nails tore at his flesh in a desperate fight,
“Let me go!” she shouted, her desperation obvious.
The man tightened his hold, his patience waning “Shut up!” he barked, attempting to muffle her cries
She was able to get free for a second, but he swung at her, hitting her head with his fist before she could get away. She crumpled to the ground, motionless, as the force struck Breathing heavily, he stood over her and gazed at her lifeless body,
“Damn it” he mumbled to himself. Raphael wanted her alive. A harsh voice cut through the darkness as he knelt down to check her pulse to see whether she was still alive,
“Hey!”
When the man’s head jerked up, he saw another figure running in his direction, it was Sebastian. The man briefly thought of taking him out as well, but his determination was broken by the sound of a door behind him opening. As Sebastian got near Emily, he ran out into the night and vanished into the darkness.
Sebastian fell to his knees next to her, his thoughts racing as he absorbed the scene. The sight of her pale face, the slight mark on her temple, the blood on her gown, it was all too much to take in. With a shaky voice, he gave her a gentle shake,
“Emily? Emily, can you hear me?”
She didn’t answer. His instincts told him to go after the man who had attacked her, but his heart was thumping in his chest as he looked about. A mass of visitors surged out as the door behind him flew open before he could take any action. As they approached the area, there were gasps and whispers,
“It’s him!” someone shouted,
“He did it!”
Sebastian’s head snapped up, his eyes wide with disbelief,
“No! I didn’t…!
“Save it” another voice interrupted,
“I saw you standing over her”
“You don’t understand!” Sebastian pleaded,

But, nobody paid attention. His protests were muffled by the charges of the gathered mob. Ast the police arrived and dragged him away in handcuffs, panic and anguish clutched at him. The only thing he could hope for was that Emily would wake up and come clean, if she was still living, if she could remember.
Sebastian sat with his hands balled into fists and his head bent in the courtroom. From the beginning, the trial had been a nightmare. He was portrayed as the villain in every piece of evidence and testimony. Despite his lawyer’s heroic efforts, it was insufficient.
The balance was shifting against him since Emily was unable to testify and the prosecution. was unrelenting. Sebastian braced himself for the inevitable as the two attorneys argued their final points, he was hopeless. The courtroom doors opened just as the judge was about to give the verdict.
while The room sounded with gasps as Emily walked in, pushed in a wheelchair by Albert,” Madeline trailed closely after. Reporters snapped pictures and whispered wildly as all eyes were on the trio. Sebastian, however, kept his eyes on Emily. His breath froze in his throat as he observed her resolute expression and pale cheeks, he couldn’t speak, he was too stunned to, as well as hopeful for the first time in days.
“Your Honor” Emily said, her voice steady despite her weak condition,
“Mr. Young is innocent, drop the charges”
Her finality hung in the air as she spoke. As the judge battled to restore order, reporters rushed for quotations, and attorneys clashed, the courtroom burst into mayhem. Sebastian, however, didn’t care about any of it.
Nothing stunned him more than the fact that Madeline was there too, she must have been the one who got Emily to come testify, seeing Emily was in a wheelchair, his runaway bride.
At home, Jacob was waiting outside Madeline’s door with the champagne and lilies. He paused for a second, uncertain of her response. He inhaled deeply and knocked gently. Madeline’s eyes widened in astonishment as she stood there as the door opened,
“Jacob” she said, her voice a mix of shock and confusion,
“What are you doing here?”
“I came to apologize” he said simply, holding up the flowers and wine,
“And to make things right”
For a time, Madeline’s expression was unreadable as she stared at him. A tiny smile eventually appeared, and she moved to make room for him.
