Chapter 64 – Unraveling Intentions
The following morning, Victor Lanning entered the police station wearing a fine suit and appearing composed. His goal was very clear, to stop the situation from getting worse, he intended to dissuade lead investigator Davies from looking into Sebastian’s case further.
He would buy Raphael the time he needed to hide their traces if he could perhaps divert the police’s attention to another case his colleague was working on,
Victor’s shined sneakers clicked gently on the tiled floor as he entered the station. The hum of activity weighed heavily on the atmosphere, which was electrified. Officers walked back and forth with documents in hand and hurried, clipped chats, but Victor was used to this kind of
stress.
He arrived at Davies’s office, knocked hard, and entered. A stout man with a tough exterior, Davies looked up from his desk,
“Lanning” he said, leaning back in his chair,
“What brings you here so early? This isn’t your usual haunt”
Victor offered a polite smile, closing the door behind him,
“Good morning, Detective. I came by to speak with you about Sebastian Young’s case”
Davies raised an eyebrow, a flicker of interest crossing his face,
“Speak away”
The door opened before Victor could say anything further, and another officer entered, nodding curtly at Davies, it was a silent cue. Davies straightened the front of his shirt and stood up suddenly,
“If you’re interested in the case, Lanning, why don’t you come along? Something just came up”
Victor scowled a little
“Lead the way”
but he had to follow out of curiosity and a desire to control the story,
He followed Davies down the station’s twisting hallways, past the busy bullpen, and into the interrogation rooms. He pushed one of them open and went inside, gesturing for Victor to
take a seat.
Victor paused, his discomfort increasing,
“What’s going on here, Detective?”
“Patience, Lanning, patience” Davies said, taking his seat across the table.

Something that Victor couldn’t quite identify, a mix of challenge and anticipation glinted in
his eyes.
The door opened once more a few moments later. Victor’s breath froze as he turned, Emily Roberts entered with an air of subdued indifference. She glanced around the room and briefly recognized Victor, the lawyer in charge of her case before turning to Davies.

Victor’s mind raced, Why is she here already? They’re moving far too quickly. Davies for Emily to take a seat. Her attorney, Victor Lanning, sat beside him and appeared less excited about the encounter,
“Emily” Davies greeted, gesturing for her to take a seat,
“Thanks for coming in”
She nodded, placing her bag on the table,
“I needed to”
Victor leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms
“I don’t see why this is necessary, the case is closed. Sebastian’s free. What more do we need to discuss?”
Davies raised an eyebrow,
“If you think that’s all there is to this, Mr. Lanning, you’re welcome to leave. Emily can get another lawyer”
Victor exhaled deeply, obviously annoyed, but remained motionless. Emily looked at him for a moment, then returned her focus to Davies.
Knowing full well that Albert would not want to hear what she had to say, she had kept this meeting a secret from him. On the table, Davies folded his hands,
“Let’s go back to the beginning. I need you to tell me everything about this debt and the man involved”
Davies leaned forward slightly, listening intently, while Victor prayed silently she didn’t mention Raphael’s name in her story.
Emily hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath,
“His name is Raphael”
“It started after the video of me and Sebastian went viral… the one at the party where I poured wine on him” Emily began,
“Raphael came to my office one day, he said he was impressed by my boldness and thought I had potential for something…bigger”
Davies frowned,

“Bigger?”
“He offered me a movie contract” Emily explained,
“It sounded too good to be true, and of course, it was. He said I’d have to audition… privately”
She hesitated, her cheeks flushing at the memory
“He stopped in the middle of everything. Said it felt like his…uh…his dick was burning”
Victor let out a low chuckle, getting a glare from Davies. Emily continued, ignoring him,
“I remembered I’d had spicy food earlier that day, I didn’t think it would, well, you know”
Davies rubbed his temple,
“Go on‘
“He got angry” Emily said,
“Really angry,
he told me to leave. I didn’t argue, I packed up and left, and that was the last I heard from him… until my wedding night“.
Davies leaned back, exhaling slowly,
“That’s…a lot”
“You think I’m making this up?” Emily asked,
“No” Davies said quickly,
“I believe you. It’s just…a lot to process” he picked up his pen and began to jot down.
The room fell silent for a moment, the weight of her words hanging in the air.
Davies closed his notebook and stood,
“Thank you, Miss Roberts, that’ll be all for now. We’ll be in touch if we need more information”
