Chapter 26
Nadia turned around and was stunned when she saw Matthew open the door and come out of the apartment. Then, she whispered to Kathleen, I have something to do now. I’ll call you later.
“Huh?” Kathleen, who was still waiting to hear more about Matthew, was also stunned, but she quickly came back to her senses. “Oh, okay. Get back to your work first. Have a good rest.”
“Okay. You too.” Nadia hung up and returned the phone to Darrell before turning back to look at Matthew.
Matthew stood at the door. He had his back to the light. His tall figure looked calm but intimidating.
He glanced at Darrell indifferently and then turned his gaze to Nadia. “Who is he?”
Nadia was stunned at first. However, she came back to her senses soon, turned around slightly, pointed to Darrell and Matthew with her palms, and introduced them to each other. “Oh, this is Darrell Carson, my senior from college. He was also the class tutor. He taught us for half a year. Now, we are in the same class.
After hearing Nadia’s introduction, Matthew glanced at her and then at Darrell. His lips moved slightly as he greeted Darrell coldly but politely, “Hello”
Darrell also returned a “Hello” politely. Then, he also looked questioningly at Nadia.
Only then did Nadia remember that she hadn’t introduced Matthew yet. She pointed at Matthew and said. “This is my…”
Nadia paused for a moment. The word “ex–husband‘ sounded weird, but she still stammered on, “Ex–husband.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw Matthew frown at her as if he didn’t like the way she addressed him. Darrell was not surprised at all. He even looked up and nodded politely at Matthew as a greeting.
Matthew also returned Darrell’s gaze but said to Nadia. “Let’s go inside to talk. It’s cold outside.”
“No need.” Nadia refused subconsciously. Seeing that Matthew didn’t seem to want to leave, she couldn’t help looking at him. “By the way, there is a lecture later at school. Darrell and I have to go back to school I… won’t entertain you then. Please help yourself.
Matthew glanced at her.
Nadia was inexplicably frightened by his gaze. She looked away a little and did not dare to look Matthew in the eye. Just as she thought that Matthew was going to say something, he looked at her calmly and said, “Take good care of yourself.” After that, Matthew went out of the door and straight to the elevator, pressed the button, and walked into the elevator. When the elevator door closed, Nadia looked up into the elevator, Matthew was also looking at her. His handsome face and brown eyes had returned their usual cold, distant but calm look.
Nadia watched as the elevator door closed slowly and remained rooted on the spot. Matthew, who was in the elevator, did not move at all. He just looked at her calmly until the elevator door closed slowly.
Darrell glanced at the elevator as it went down and then looked at Nadia. “Are you alright?”
Nadia shook her head and looked at Darrell apologetically. “I’m sorry.”
Darrell smiled wryly. It’s okay.”

He checked the time and looked at Nadia. “You haven’t eaten yet, have you? I’ve just made dinner upstairs. Let’s make do with
Nadia smiled and shook her head. “No, but thank you.”
Darrell did not insist. “Okay, upstairs.”

Chapter 26
After watching Darrell enter the elevator, Nadia returned to her apartment.
When the door closed, the smile on Nadia’s face slowly disappeared. She looked around the apartment. She didn’t know if it was because Matthew was just here, but now that he was gone, the apartment became too quiet.
or two years after
Although she had begun to get used to living alone and adapted to it very well, she had lived with Matthew for all. His arrival would always remind her of some decent memories in the past.
Nadia let out a long sigh and suppressed the slight discomfort in her heart. She walked to the wardrobe that she had just stuffed the clothes and baskets into in a hurry and opened the wardrobe door.
The stuff she had stuffed into it in a hurry was scattered all over the wardrobe, looking messy.
Nadia put the clothes and baskets back in place, took out the check–up report from her bag, looked at the HCG report in the basket, and pulled it out gently.
The report showed that the patient had over 600 human chorionic gonadotropin. Nadia looked at the words “Early Pregnancy in the lower right corner of the report. She was in a bit of a daze as she gently stroked her flat lower abdomen. She felt very strange. It was hard to imagine that a baby was growing in her belly. However, when she thought of how the doctor said that her body was too weak in the afternoon, she became indescribably uneasy. Nadia couldn’t help but put both of her hands on her abdomen gently. She looked down at her belly, folded the reports slowly but carefully, and put them in the drawer of the coffee table. Then, she got up to eat. Deep down in her heart, she still hoped to have a chance to keep the baby.
Matthew drove back to Gloraxy Hotel. As soon as the car parked in front of the hotel, he received a call from Harrison. Matthew answered the phone.
“Mr. Brock, have you arrived?” As soon as the phone was connected, Harrison asked Matthew in a slightly relaxed voice. “I’ve arrived,” Matthew replied indifferently. He turned off the engine, pulled down the brake, unfastened his seat belt, and got
out of the car.
The security guard at the door greeted Matthew warmly, “Hello, sir. Would you like to check in?”
Matthew rarely came here for inspection, and when he came occasionally, he would stay as a customer for a short time. He investigated in secret and never informed anyone. Therefore, except for a few executives, not many people in the hotel knew him.
Matthew didn’t need any warm welcome. Therefore, in the face of the guard’s greeting, he just nodded and replied softly. “Yes.” Then, he turned slightly and looked at the car that he had just parked. “Please park the car for me.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he threw the key in his hand to the parking attendant.
problem” The parking attendant raised his hand and took the car keys briskly. At the same time, he made a welcoming gesture to Matthew into the hall. “This way, please. The receptionist can check you in.”
“Okay, thank you.” Matthew thanked him and walked through the revolving door of the hall. He was still on his phone and had his mind on something else. Therefore, he was a little absent–minded and didn’t pay much attention to his surroundings. As soon as he walked to the revolving door, a slender figure rushed out of the elevator and muttered loudly, “Hey, wait, let me through first. I have something urgent to tend to…
Before she could finish her words, she ran straight into Matthew
Matthew leaned to the side instinctively. However, the girl who rushed over couldn’t stop immediately. With a bang, she fell to the ground, and the bag and phone in her hands also fell to the ground. There was no zipper in her bag, and the things in her bag scattered all across the floor.
“Hey, why did you do this… The girl mumbled. She brushed the dust off her clothes and reached out to pick up her things on the ground.
Matthew looked at the ground subconsciously. The girl reached out for an old–fashioned Eye of Horus emerald bracelet. When Matthew saw the “NC” carved on the gem, he narrowed his eyes suddenly, bent down, and grabbed the girl’s wrist. “Where did you get this bracelet?”
