Chutes
Chapter 8
Jacob never replied to my texts. Whenever he saw my text, he would call me instead of texting back.
I guess he didn’t love me enough to change his views for me.
“Why does it still hurt when he shows hate towards us?” Willow pondered.
1 sighed, “It won’t hurt anymore once we leave him.”
“When will that be?” She asked me curiously.
“Soon. I’m just waiting for my school to send my transcript to Standard West College.” I replied as I turned on my side.
“Are you going back to sleep?” She asked me and let out a small laugh.
“Yeah, I’m so sleepy!” I exclaimed as I laughed too.
Willow’s laugh died down as she asked, “School starts in one hour. Are you sure that you can wake up in one hour?”
“Yes, my phone’s alarm is set.” I reassured her.
“Alright. Sleep tight.” She murmured in a comforting tone of voice.
“Thanks.” I replied as I closed my eyes.
The next evening, I was in the kitchen eating the cookies that I made for myself after making the three batches when I heard my phone ringing.
Glancing at the screen, I saw that it was Jacob, so I decided not to
answer.
After the call ended, I saw his message in the pack’s Facebook group
chat.
[Thanks for making those cookies, they taste amazing!]
Another message came through, but this one was from Lisa, [When can you make more? They’re so tasty and the guests love it, I can never bake as good as you. I usually start a fire whenever I try and I’m sure. that’s why Alpha Jacob didn’t let me bake them.]

My chest tightened as I realized that the cookies were for her.
Why did Jacob ask me to bake for her? Did they take me as her personal maid now? I was a Luna for God’s sake!
My brows knitted in a frown as I read her message again and I felt a bit confused, so I asked, [Guests?],
Her reply came through instantly, [Yeah, it’s for my sister’s birthday. Inviting you must have slipped her mind. Don’t worry, I’m inviting you now. We’re at her house in the guest room.]
I was about to decline her invitation, but then I saw Jacob’s message, [You were not invited in the first place, so it’s not a must for you to attend.]
My phone started ringing and I saw that it was Lisa. I didn’t want to pick up the call, but I was curious and wanted to know why she was calling me.
I answered the call and placed the phone against my ear as I said,
“Hello?”
‘Do you have more cookies? Please bring them with you if you’re going to come.” She pleaded in a sickly sweet voice.
“Sure.” I muttered coldly and hung up.
I baked those cookies for her free of charge and now, she was asking for more! How could she be so shameless?
I felt so angry and wasn’t sure if I wanted to give her any more of my cookies.
“Willow, I need your advice.” I said in my head.
“Tell me what’s wrong. I’m happy to help.” She replied, her voice. sounding concerned.
“Lisa wants me to go to her sister’s birthday party which I wasn’t invited to initially and she wants me to bring her more of my cookies.
I don’t want to give her more of my cookies since I wasn’t her cook. What do you think I should do?” I asked, running a hand through my dark hair.

“Don’t give her any more of your cookies and go to the party only if you need a reason to go there.” Willow said exactly what I wanted to hear.
“Alright.” I replied with a smile touching my lips.
It took me twenty minutes to get to the party location.
I rang the doorbell, but no one came to answer the door. It was only after I rang it four times that the door opened.
Lisa’s sister, Vicky, stood in the door way and when her eyes landed on me, they widened in surprise.
She looked nervous as she muttered, “Luna Farrah, inviting you completely slipped my mind! I hope you’re not angry.”
How could she forget to invite me when she invited Jacob? Neither she not Lisa liked me, and I felt the same way about them.
I gave her a tight smile, “I’m not. Besides, Lisa invited me.”
“Ah, so it was her!” She exclaimed as a frown fell on her brows.
I moved my gaze over her shoulder to get a glimpse of the party as I asked, “Can I come in?”
She nodded as her frown disappeared and was replaced by a fake smile, “Sure. Come in.”
She moved aside to let me pass and I walked in.
Music was playing as the pack members around either danced or chatted in groups. They greeted me whenever their gaze landed on
- me.
I glanced at Vicky as I asked, “Where’s the guest room?”
“Just go down that hallway and turn right. It’s the room with the silver doorknob.” She directed me as she pointed at the hallway.
“Okay.” I replied and started making my way to the guest room.
I didn’t bother knocking and walked into the guest room.
Lisa was on Jacob’s lap as they spoke in low tones, but she slide off when she saw me come in.

Jacob’s brows furrowed as soon as his gaze landed on me while Lisa’s lips curled up in a smug smile.
What were they doing in the guest room alone? The answer was obvious.
My heart clenched at their audacity to betray me, but I stayed calm. I was a better person than they were.
I didn’t bother confronting them about their position when I came in or the reason they were alone in a bedroom, especially since I noticed that it was what Lisa wanted.
She wanted m
