Chapter 26: A Fragile Fate

**Benard Walter’s Perspective**

The idea of an Alpha’s mate being a weak human was unbearable. It was a notion so absurd and humiliating that I had buried it deep within my thoughts. How could I, an Alpha, accept someone so frail and unfit for leadership? If I acknowledged such a mate, the entire pack. would be ridiculed. The very image of our strength would crumble

Alright, Benard. You’ve done enough for today,my mother urged gently, her voice tinged

with concern

1 ignored her plea and continued to pore over the endless documents before me. I had never enjoyed this administrative part of my role, and yet, it was an unavoidable responsibility

I’ll go to bed once I finish these,I muttered, unwilling to meet her gaze

My father, ever the stern and composed figure, stepped forward and interrupted my excuses. His tone was firm, carrying the authority of years of experience. Enough of this, Benard. You’re going to rest now. And tomorrow, you’re leaving for the nearby pack to find your mate.”

His words caught me off guard. What?”

My mother chuckled softly. Yes, son. You’ve been working too hard. Your father and I discussed it, and we’ve decided that you need a change of scenery. Take Rhode with you. Who knows? Maybe one of you will bring back a mate

I can’t,I said flatly, shaking my head. There’s too much work to be done here. How can I justify leaving for something as frivolous as a trip?”

Frivolous? My mother folded her arms, an amused yet exasperated expression on her face. You’ve become like a machine, Benard. All you do is work. Day in, day out, it’s the same. Work will always be there, but you’re no good to anyone if you burn out. You need to learn to relax

Her words carried weight, but I couldn’t entertain the idea. There was too much at stake. The pack relied on me to manage its affairs, strengthen its defenses, and ensure its survival. Leaving now felt irresponsible

I have too much to do,I snapped, my frustration boiling over

My mother sighed, shaking her head. See? This is exactly what I’m talking about. You’ve become so rigid, so serious. You’re forgetting how to live.”

Benard,my father interjected, his voice low but commanding. Watch your tone. This isn’t a suggestion; it’s an order. You will leave tomorrow morning Rhode will accompany you, and I’ve already arranged for the Silver Moon Pack to host you. Your mother and I will handle things here in your absence. This is for your own good and for the good of the pack.”

Chapter 26 A Fruole Fate

I opened my mouth to protest further, but my father’s expression left no room for argument. The decision had been made, and I was powerless to resist it. The following morning, I found myself being ushered into a car alongside Rhode and another trusted member of the pack

Daniel

Daniel, our head guard, was a capable and loyal warrior. Like me, he hadn’t found his mate yet, and this journey offered him the same opportunity it supposedly offered me: a chance to meet

the one destined for him

As the car pulled away from our pack, I glanced back at my parents, their figures growing smaller in the distance. They would never know the truth. I had already met my mate, a fragile human who was wholly unsuited to the role of Luna

If they ever discovered that I had deliberately rejected her, their disappointment would be immeasurable. But I couldn’t let emotions cloud my judgment. Any rational Alpha would make the same choice. A human Luna would be a liability, not an asset. What the pack needed was. strength, not weakness

The journey to the Silver Moon Pack was uneventful, giving me plenty of time to wrestle with my thoughts. I wasn’t used to this kind of downtime. Since becoming Alpha, every moment of life had been consumed by responsibility. It felt strange to be idle, but I knew this trip was necessary for the sake of appearances, if nothing else

my

When we arrived, the Silver Moon Pack greeted us warmly. Their Alpha and Luna welcomed us with open arms, and they had even planned a grand banquet in our honor. I quickly learned that the banquet would be attended by all the unmated individuals in the pack. It was a calculated effort to increase the chances of finding a mate, and I couldn’t deny its efficiency

As the banquet began, I found myself surveying the room, halfheartedly searching for the telltale pull that would signal the presence of my mate. But there was nothing. No scent, no spark, no recognition

The atmosphere shifted abruptly when I heard Daniel let out a low, guttural growl. My attention snapped to him, and I followed his gaze to a young woman entering the room

She was strikingly beautiful, her brown eyes glowing with warmth and confidence. She moved with an air of grace and strength, and it was clear from the murmurs around us that she was highly regarded within her pack

As I watched, I realized she was more than just a pretty face. She was the daughter of the Alpha and the most skilled warrior in the Silver Moon Pack. Her reputation preceded her, and I couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy

Daniel’s reaction confirmed itshe was his mate

The connection between them was palpable. She met his gaze, her expression shifting from curiosity to surprise as understanding dawned. The room erupted into cheers as they approached each other, their bond solidifying before our eyes

Chapter 26: A Fragile Fate

It was a rare and beautiful sight, but it only served to highlight my own predicament. Daniel had found a mate who was not only strong but also deeply connected to her pack. She would be

an asset to him in every way

If only my own situation were so simple

As the night wore on, I continued to meet new people, but none of them stirred the familiar feeling I was supposed to experience. Rhode, too remained unattached, which was some small comfort. At least I wasn’t alone in my fruitless search

We drank together, observing Daniel from a distance as he remained utterly captivated by his mate. The two of them were practically inseparable, lost in their own world

I couldn’t help but smirk at his lovestruck demeanor. Love turns men into fools,I muttered to Rhode, who nodded in agreement

Let’s hope we’re not quite as airheaded when our time comes,he replied

I chuckled, but the laughter didn’t reach my heart. Deep down, I knew my time had already come and gone. My mate was out there, a fragile human who could never stand by my side as

Luna

For now, I could only focus on the task at hand. I had a duty to my pack, and I would not let them down
