Chapter 21
Noelle
The moment my big words are out of my mouth, the whole pack goes silent. It’s probably because everyone knows I don’t have a wolf and could never dream of beating Sebastian if it came to shape-shifting. But I’m in luck because today, we are sparring in human form.
And
yes,
Sebastian might be taller than me and the second strongest werewolf in the pack with muscles for days. Yet I have this weird feeling inside of me telling me I can beat him. I’m more cunning than him and can use it against him.
“You do realize this isn’t a deathmatch, right? We are just going to be sparring” Sebastian says, his voice too snotty for my liking. Not only that, but his arrogant smirk widens as the crowd around us chuckles.
Anger bubbles underneath my skin. My ex-mate is trying to make me seem like a fool, overzealous, and too eager for my own good.
“I’m aware,” I reply, keeping my tone cool and steady.
It doesn’t go past me that nobody else is getting ready to spar with their partner. Everyone is too busy watching me and Sebastian-the Beta and the Omega that used to be mates, but are now enemies. Honestly, I can’t blame people for being curious, even though I don’t like them watching us.
“Well, shall we get this party started?” Sebastian asks as he cracks his muscular shoulders.
“I thought you would never ask.”
Sebastian steps back, giving me the space I need to prepare myself. He seems confident in his victory, maintaining a relaxed stance that contradicts the tension in the air around us. It strikes me then how much he’s underestimating me—a mistake I intend to use in my favor.

Meanwhile, Lucian stands nearby, his eyes flitting between Sebastian and me with a look of concern etched on his face. But he knows better than to interfere. This is a fight I must face alone.
“Ready?” Sebastian says, his face showing no hint of concentration whatsoever.
I open my mouth to say, “Hell yes”, but Logan steps between us with a smile. “How about we make this more interesting?” he
asks.
His eyes scan the crowd briefly before landing back on us, a spark of mischief dancing in them. It’s a rare sight to see on the respected elder’s face, which only adds to the palpable excitement that buzzes around the training grounds.
“To make this more fun to watch, I suggest you have a duel instead of a sparring match,” Logan starts, “Sebastian, if you lose this match against Noelle, you will have to perform all the pack duties allocated to her for a week. And if you win, Noelle here will obey any one order you give.”
Lucian, who has been quiet all this while, frowns at his father’s words. As an Alpha, he might not like the idea of his pack members being given unnecessary tasks as punishment. But he knows better than to question Elder Logan in front of the pack.
Sebastian chuckles, clearly pleased with the idea and probably already thinking of an order for me. He turns towards me with a smug smirk. “Do we have a deal?”
I cringe internally at the thought but square my shoulders and look him directly in the eye. “Deal.”
The crowd erupts into cheers and excited chatter again. I turn towards Lucian, who focuses his eyes you want to do this?’ he asks telepathically.
‘I’m sure, I respond, and he gives me a nod to signal that he won’t interfere.
Logan steps back from between Sebastian and me, leaving us encircled by the crowd of spectators.

“We spar until one party surrenders or can no longer continue,” Sebastian says and takes up his fighting stance. “Are you ready?”
“Ready as I will ever be,” I reply.

With that, we both lunge forward. Being smaller than the mighty Beta of the Midnight pack, I manage to dodge his punch easily. He growls in response to hitting the air, and then I hear Lucian’s voice inside my head.
‘My brother is channeling his wolf. Do you want me to call him out?’
I snort inwardly. ‘He is already cheating, huh?’
Yes…do you want me to call him out?’
‘No, not before I’ve beaten him. It will be more embarrassing for him if you call him out after I’ve won!
‘I know, but I just don’t want you to get hurt. And I’m not saying that because I don’t believe in you. I do, but rotten cheater. His wolf could severely injure you since you can’t awaken yours!

Instead of telling Lucian that I can handle myself, I take his words into consideration since he isn’t wrong. Sebastian is larger and stronger than me, and with his wolf, I’m wondering if I even stand a chance.
‘Shit… My thoughts tell of my building insecurity. I was confident three seconds ago, but now I’m starting to realize Sebastian might get the last laugh.
‘No, he won’t,’ Lucian says after reading my thoughts against my will. I’m not mad at him, though, not since it sounds like he has a solution. ‘I know how you can beat my brother, but it won’t be easy!’
‘How?’
Jump to the left.
I do as Lucian says, widening my eyes
when Sebastian throws a wild punch where I used to be. The one thing I have that
Sebastian doesn’t have is speed and agility.
‘I’m going to guide you, Noelle, but don’t worry. It doesn’t count as cheating?’
‘Doesn’t count as cheating?’
‘No,’ he sounds amused. ‘Because even if I tell you what to do, you will have to listen and do it right. And trust me, that’s hard when you have zero battle experience.’
‘True…’
‘Anyway, you have to act fast. Sebastian is coming! Now kick. High and hard.’ Lucian commands.
I follow his instructions precisely, my foot connecting with Sebastian’s ribcage. He stumbles back, genuinely surprised, and the crowd erupts into surprised gasps and cheers.
‘Again!’ Lucian instructs, ‘Keep him off balance.’
And so it goes, Lucian guiding me through the fight telepathically. He exploits his brother’s weaknesses while making use of my strengths, ones I didn’t even know I had. He helps me observe Sebastian’s movements, predict his punches, and counteract accordingly. It feels like a well-rehearsed dance between Sebastian and me, only in reverse-instead of supporting each other’s moves, we are countering each other’s.
“What the hell?!” Sebastian growls again, obviously more frustrated than before. He’s not used to being used to struggling against an opponent he thought was weaker than him.
‘Now push him!’ Lucian orders.

Gathering all my strength, I charge forward and push into him just when he’s regaining his balance. He crashes onto the ground, winded and shocked.
His eyes lift to mine, and Lucian growls, ‘Kick him in the face. He is a werewolf and can handle it!’
I don’t even hesitate and kick Sebastian hard in the face, making him crash down on his back. It gives me the opportunity to place my foot on his chest.
“Yield!” I pant out, standing over him with my eyes glaring daggers into his.

But even if he can’t believe he just lost a duel to the pack’s Omega, he has no other choice than to yield. He’s been outsmarted despite his raw power and strength.
“I yield.” he grits out through clenched teeth, much to the amazement of the watching crowd.
Cheers erupt from the spectators, and 1 freeze into an ice statue when I realize something: I won.
My heart races in my chest as I step back from Sebastian, allowing him to rise from the ground. His eyes are aflame with frustration and disbelief, but underneath it all, there’s a spark of respect that wasn’t there before.
“This isn’t over,” he mutters, brushing dust off his clothes. And I know it isn’t. I’ve upset the hierarchy of the pack, and some will not take kindly to that.
But right now, at this moment, victory is a sweet balm soothing away any worry. The crowd around us moves, creating a path for Lucian, who walks towards me with a smile on his face.
Lucian’s strong arms envelop me in a bear hug, “I knew you had it in you. You’re the perfect Luna for me!”
I’m hugged to Lucian’s chest, much aware of Sebastian throwing us dirty looks. He looks jealous, and when I catch his eye, he mutters, “You fight dirty.”
“I learned from the best,” I reply cheekily, inclining my head towards Lucian, who only rolls his eyes in response.
Sebastian then turns towards Lucian, crossing his arms over his chest. “Did you help her?” His voice is accusing, but there’s more curiosity than anger in it.
Lucian kisses my forehead and then smiles at his brother as if challenging Sebastian to do something about it. “I might have given her a couple of pointers.”
“A couple?” Sebastian growls, but there’s a twinkle of amusement in his eyes. “She kicked my a***”
“She did,” Lucian smirks. “Which must be doesn’t even have a wolf.”

“He used his wolf?”
“I thought he was moving faster than a human!”
“Oh my god, how did Noelle beat him?”
“Maybe she is stronger than we thought?”
I listen to the pack members praise me and feel a bubble of pride forming in my chest. Perhaps I’m not as weak as I thought? And if I can keep up with Sebastian’s speed without a wolf, imagine how strong I will be once I finally awaken.
‘Agreed,’ Lucian’s eyes meet mine. ‘You will be truly unstoppable, and you know what?’
‘What?’
‘Powerful women turn me on,’ he winks at me. ‘You don’t know what you’ve brought upon yourself.’
