Chapter 22
Noelle
After defeating my ex-mate in a duel, I take an afternoon nap with a smile on my face. I stretch out my sore body that’s wet from the shower on one of the couches in Lucian’s living room, and then I’m a goner, completely wiped from the face of the earth as I enter dreamland.
I expect to dream about Lucian. He said he liked powerful women, and I’ve been h***ny since. But while I see Lucian in my dream, it isn’t a sex-related dream.
I’m standing in a huge throne room with a big horn held in my hands. Lucian is kneeling before me, looking pained as he is transforming into a fairy. His white hair grows longer, nails are replaced with claws and the he screams in agony as he shoots up in height.
“No,” I whisper and take a step back, fearful of the creature he is about to become.
But that’s when a hand is placed on my shoulder. I turn around to face its owner, gasping when my eyes land on the beautiful face of a black-haired woman.
“Good job, Noellin,” she says with a smirk. “The Songheart family is the most powerful thanks to our ability to control the minds of others. That includes fairies,” she looks down at Lucian, who is now whimpering on the ground. “This one right here is the strongest fairy alive, thanks to his werewolf genes, but with that horn in your hands, you can control him. Blow in it again and order him to serve. You’re the only lycan strong enough to make him your slave.”
I stare at the woma
n, whispering, “Why would I want to make him my slave?”
“So that you can take over every territory in the magical realm and become who you were destined to be: Noellin Star Songheart, the lycan princess conqueror.”
“C-conqueror?” I ask right when wings spread out from Lucian’s muscular back.
“IT HURTS! MAKE IT STOP!” He screams, and my heart pounds against my ribcage when I realize the fairy within him has taken over entirely.
No longer does he resemble a hot and attractive man. Instead, there’s a monster in his place-a horrendous fairy over thirty feet tall with grey skin and dark vessels all over it.
This time, I have to fight the urge to run as I look at his red glowing eyes, long white hair, pointy ears, and antlers with red roses on them.
“Blow in the horn, Noellin,” the woman whispers. “Do it for me, your birth mother.”
Birthmother? Wait, that means I can trust her, right?
Without hesitation, I lift the horn to my lips to blow in it. A sound unlike anything I’ve ever heard before echoes through the cavernous throne room, reverberating off the stone walls and causing the vast chandeliers to sway. I release a breath I didn’t know I was holding when Lucian, in his monstrous form, seems to still.
His eyes turn blank, and any sign of his humanity is erased, leaving him a shell of the man he used to be. Horror grips me while my mother laughs.
“Excellent, Noellin!” she exclaims, her eyes gleaming dangerously as she smiles. “You’ve done it! You’ve turned one of the most powerful beings in the magical realm into your slave. Nothing can stop us now!”
I stare at the monster I’ve created, feeling a sickness wash over me. Lucian is just sitting on the floor, staring into space with a dead expression. It isn’t at all what I wanted. I thought blowing in the horn would help him!
Helplessness wash over me, but even though I feel sorry for Lucian I don’t dare to approach him. He is a giant now and simply looking at him gives wake to goosebumps. Tears form in my eyes, a sob wrecking-
“Noelle!”
I wake up with a start, staring up at Lucian’s concerned face as he gazes down at me. He is kneeling before the couch, and once he realizes I’m awake, a grin breaks over his face.
“Gosh, I thought you would never wake up,” he says. “You were wailing my name and thrashing about. I was getting worried.”

Chapter 29
I blink in confusion, my heart still pounding from the nightmare, from the terror of seeing Lucian turned into a monstrous fairy
He is himself again, his human form back to its gorgeous, alluring self. The transformation in my dream, his horrifying stature, those dead eyes… it’s all gone!
“I missed you so much!” I exclaim and sit up to hug his neck without giving him a warning first.
Lucian stiffens but then relaxes, his arms coming around me in a gentle embrace. His hand softly strokes my back as I bury my face in his neck. The scent of him fills my nostrils and even though the poor guy has no clue why I’m hugging him, he doesn’t let go of me.
“I’m here, Noelle,” he whispers.” I’m here.”
Despite the lingering fear from my nightmare, I laugh lightly. He chuckles in response, his chest rumbling against me. I paill away just enough to look at him, drinking in the sight of his chiseled features and sparkling green eyes
He tilts his head. “Something the matter?”
“No,” I murmur and squeeze his cheeks, causing him to squint at me like I’m crazy.
“Wh-wha ayouw doin?” He manages to get out.
“Appreciating you,” I respond, my voice soft.
“By squishing mah face?”
Giggling, I let go of his cheeks and watch as a rosy hue paints his handsome features. I’m guessing he wants an explanation so I give it to him.
“In my nightmare, you were…” I bite my lower lip before telling him a half-truth. “In danger.”
Lucian’s expression sobers up quickly, concern flashing in his emerald eyes. “You were crying out in your sleep,” he says, his voice laced with worry. “Screaming my name…I had no idea it was me who was in danger. Do you really care that much about me even though we just became mates?”
A blush creeps to my cheeks at his words, and I can’t help but look away.
“I do,” I confess, my heart pounding fast from showing myself vulnerable to him. “I care about you more than I thought possible, Lucian.”
Lucian goes quiet, and when I look at him, I find him with a puzzled expression. His brows are furrowed in surprise, and he leans back slightly, studying me with an intensity that makes my breath hitch.
“Even though I’m a monster?” he chokes out.
My heart clenches at the anguish in his words, the pain in those brilliant green eyes. Without hesitation, I cup his face, forting him to look at me.
“You’re not a monster, Lucian,” I say with fierce conviction. “What you are…it doesn’t define you. You’re kind and caring and so much more. I see you, Lucian. Not the creature folktales have made you out to be.”
His eyes widen at my declaration, and then something softens in them. The doubt that clouded his gaze is replaced by something else, something warm…something hopeful.
A slow, shy smile spreads across his face. “Maybe the moon goddess was right about matching us after all”
“Maybe,” I whisper. “But only if you learn how to control that other side of yours. I want no more people dying”
Lucian pouts. “But that’s the fun part!”
“Lucian!” I exclaim, lightly smacking his chest. This elicits a chuckle from him, and he grins at me, clearly amused
“Relax, Noelle. I’m kidding,” he assures me, holding up his hands in a placating gesture. Still, there’s a glit in his eyes than heas me doubting his words.
“Promise me.” My voice is firm, my expression resolute. “Promise me you will try to keep your fairy side at bay and focus more on your wolf.”

Chapter 22
He looks taken aback by my seriousness, but after a moment, he nods. “I promise. I won’t use my… fairy abilities in that way. again. What you saw during that pack meeting won’t happen again. Not unless the elders disrespect you again.”
The steely tone in his voice catches me off guard, and I find myself blinking rapidly.
“Lucian…” I start, but he interrupts me.
“No, Noelle,” he shakes his head earnestly. “You are my mate now. You don’t deserve disrespect from anyone, especially not elders who should be setting examples.”
His words stir something deep within my heart and before I know what I’m doing, I’ve grabbed his shoulders to kiss him deeply. To hell with self-control if he is going to be acting all nice to me. I can’t handle it!
I kiss him deeper, and Lucian stiffens momentarily before melting into the kiss, his arms wrapping around me tighter than before. The taste of him is intoxicating, and I can’t stop the soft whimpers that rise from my throat.
When we finally pull away for air, our foreheads are leaning against each other. Our breaths mingle in the small space between
us.
“Wow,” Lucian murmurs, sounding equally breathless. “That was…”
“Unexpected?” I finish for him, my heart hammering in my chest.
“No………” he smiles softly. “It was just enough for me to regret taking it slow… Can’t we cheat just this once and have sex on this couch? I would love nothing else than to spread your buttch***ks and make you mine completely, Noelle,” he finishes in a whisper, his eyes darkening with desire.
I gasp at his boldness, feeling my cheeks flame hot in response. Lucian’s grin grows mischievous at my reaction.
“Too forward?” he asks, but the wicked gleam in his eyes tells me he’s not all that regretful of his words.
“I—I…” I stutter, unsure of how to respond. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted, deeply so. But we had agreed to take things slow.
“Just think about it,” he murmurs. “My c***k buried deep inside you, marking you as mine,” his words felt like a silken caress, causing a shiver to run down my spine.
Maybe I can have sex with him just this once and then pretend it never happened? I want to get to know him, I do, but I also want to be taken and dominated. And after all the drama in my life, I deserve some sex!
