Chapter 39
Noelle
On my wedding day, I’m wearing the dress the three maid sisters chose for me. I like how it isn’t white but blue, and I smile at my reflection. It’s hard to feel pretty because of how badly I messed up yesterday, but I’m trying to be happy…trying to act
as if I’m less of a failure.
“Are you ready?”
I turn around to face Edward. He isn’t going to walk me down the aisle–I plan on walking down myself–but Edward is going to take me to the chapel where the pack and my future husband are already waiting for me.
“Yes, I’m ready,” I respond, giving him a weak smile that probably doesn’t hide my inner turmoil.
“I will drive us there,” he smiles back, probably knowing I’m still upset but choosing to remain silent. A part of me is relieved he isn’t bringing up my blunder. I’m not sure I could handle more words about Sebastian.
As Edward and I drive to the chapel, I stare out the window at the passing terrain, lost in thought. Lucian’s hurt eyes flicker to the forefront of my mind, a pang of regret surging through me. My heart aches with every beat, each throb reminding me of my mistake.
When we arrive, Edward offers his hand for support as I step out of the black car. I give him a grateful nod and start toward the entrance of the chapel.
My heart pounds with every step that I take since part of me can’t believe that I’m about to get married to Lucian–someone who deserves way better thab me. For fuck’s sake, what am I even doing here?!
I mean… I want to marry Lucian. He is my mate, and I’m desperately in love with him. Being around him makes me happy, and I love how we bicker and tease each other. The sex is heavenly, too, but it doesn’t feel right to marry him since I obviously don’t deserve him.
His brother is dead because of me.
I’m only going to let him down.
He deserves better.
But I’m most likely pregnant with his child, so I guess that’s what keeps us together?
He can’t give me the pack, though. I know he will, but I can’t become the Alpha.
I’m too much of a failure.
“Ready to meet your future husband?” Edward smirks down at me with a curious gleam in his eyes.
Sadly, I’m not as excited. “I know Lucian is going to look pretty and tall–he always does, but I…” bite my lower lip and Edward sighs.
“Listen, I know what happened to Sebastian was terrible. But Noelle, honey, you only get married once in your life, so try not to think about the drama of yesterday. It’s only bringing you down when you should be happy.”
“But-”
“No buts! How about you try imagining what your white–haired hybrid Alpha husband looks like in a suit instead?” Edward gently nudges my shoulder, a soft smile playing on his lips.

I need to focus on the present. What happened to Sebastian is sad, but I must suck it up, at least for today. The pack needs to see their future Alpha at her strongest and Lucian deserves a wife who is smiling on her wedding day.
“I’m going to try,” I murmur, more to myself than to Edward. “Since the past can’t be changed, I will focus on the present.”
“That’s my girl,” Edward pats my shoulder before leading the way inside the chapel.
But if I thought the walk would be easy, I’m dead wrong. The moment I set foot inside, the nervous fluttering in my stomach intensifies.
The whole inside of the chapel is decorated with dark blue and white flowers. Its colors are common in a werewolf wedding, and the scent is to die for. Yet that isn’t what makes me nervous.
It’s all the pack members who turn to watch me and Edward enter that makes me feel as if I might shit myself. The younger wolves who I’ve been training with are all smiling, but those who don’t know me or don’t like the idea of me marrying Lucian are assessing me with mean stares.
“Noelle,” Edward whispers as we walk. “You’re strong, and you’re brave–the perfect partner for master Lucian. Please ignore those foolish pack members who are glaring at you with jealousy in their eyes.”
“I’m trying,” I whisper back, my chin held high in an attempt to look more calm and collected. However, when I see the white–haired half–fairy who is waiting for me to become his wife, I get all bubbly again.
Lucian!
The moment our eyes meet, it’s like all the noise around us fades away. Suddenly, there is only us, and I blush as my eyes take him in. Lucian is so gorgeous that I think I might melt. With his white hair and suit he honestly looks like a prince straight out of a fairytale.
I begin my walk toward him; every step is measured and intentional. Edward’s words echo through my mind, giving me solidarity and courage as I navigate through the sea of guests. The whispering voices become mere background noise, and all I see is Lucian standing there–waiting for me.

I immediately try my hardest to focus, but it’s hard. There’s a smile on my lips and I’m close to laughing from how unrealistic this is, that I’m actually getting married. But the pack elder’s eyes are sharp, and when he glares at me, I fall silent.
And I’m not the only one who respects him.
The room falls silent when he raises his hand. Once there is peace, he begins to talk, “Fellow wolves, we gather here today,” he begins in a voice that echoes through the chapel, “to celebrate not only the joining of two souls but also the continuing legacy of our pack under new leadership.”
I glance at Lucian, panicked.
What if this is a big mistake?
‘It’s not,’ Lucian says through telepathy. ‘I love you, and we are getting married whether you like it or not.’
My face burns. I love it when Lucian gets possessive with me and there’s a tingle between my legs when his eyes glow red for
a second.

“As Alpha, Lucian has chosen Noelle as his mate.” The elder says “But since he deems himself unfit to carry the mantle of Alpha any longer due to his fairy blood, Noelle will step forward to become our new leader.”
A gasp echoes around the chapel and every eye falls on me. I swallow down the lump in my throat, glancing at Lucian. His gaze is warm, a small smile flickering across his lips. It’s as though he’s saying, ‘I trust you.’
“I won’t keep this up for long,” the pack elder says. “The couple doesn’t have any vows since it’s not our tradition, but Noelle, my dear, do you accept Lucian as your mate and the responsibility of being our Alpha?”
I feel hundreds of eyes boring into me, prickling my skin with their intensity. But then, I look at Lucian. His green eyes bore into mine and there is a silent plea there–a plea for me to trust him, trust us. And suddenly, the room isn’t so intimidating
anymore.
I turn back to the elder. “I do,” I say in a determined voic Midnight pack today.”
