Sebastian
“Why won’t you look at me, baby?” Erin pouts and pulls at my am, completely oblivious to the storm wracking havoc inside of my chest.
What are the odds of my half–brother Lucian being my ex–mates second chance mate?!
This has ruined everything!
1 I I’m so pissed off that I don’t even bother to act clueless and friendly around Erin. Instead, 1 growl, “Not now,” when she tries to kiss me and seek eye contact with my father, Logan, the former Alpha of the Midnight pack.
He still hasn’t left the wedding venue and is holding a glass of water in one hand.
I sigh. “Wait here, Erin. I need to speak with my father.”
“Bur-
“No buts!” Thiss, tired of acting clueless since my plan to take over the Midnight pack just went down in flames.
Erin winces when I pull back my arm, but who gives a shit? She is only worth something because she is pregnant with my child. I couldn’t give a shit about her feelings!
I’m…” Erin bites her lower lip, staring down at the ground before looking up. “I understand.”
I just grunt in response and storm off to speak with my father. He is smirking in the distance. Fucking perfect. The old bastard knows I’m angry, and it amuses him.
“Sebastian,” he says when I join his side. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
1 glare at him. “Why do you look so happy when my plans have all gone to hell?”
He lifts his water to his lips, drinks some of it, and smiles like the cunning old wolf he is. “I know you must be angry that Lucian has found his fated mate, but I’m not upset. In fact, I think that things just turned more interesting.”
What the hell!!
“I thought you were supportive of me becoming the Alpha of the Midnight pack! Just whose side are you on?”
“I’m not on anyone’s side, son. I’m just a spectator.”
“Wh–what?!”
“Oh please, don’t hiss at me. Calm down and breathe.”
“Calm down and breathe?!” I repeat. “Are you serious? Everything has just been taken away from me–how am I supposed to calm down and breathe?!”
I’m aware of that, but you can’t get angry with me, Sebastian. I’m not at fault here. You also can’t expect me to be sad for your sake. You and Lucian are both my sons–it doesn’t matter who leads the pack in my eyes. You’re both respectable werewolves.”
“Lucian is a hybrid and not a pure werewolf!”
“And?”

“He can’t control his bloodthirst–he is a danger to the pack and shouldn’t be the Alpha!”
“And you are manipulative without actual human emotions–you both have flaws.
“But Lucian can’t produce an heir while Erin is already pregnant with my childt That should make me the Alpha by default. Wasn’t that the deal? I produce an heir, and you make me the Alpha?”
Instead of answering my question, he says, “You rejected your fated mate
“Why is that important?!” I growl in frustration. “Noelle wanted to wait with sex, and I needed an heir immediately to take over as the Alpha–who cares that I rejected her when I had a reason to do it?!”
Even though I’m yelling, my father remains calm and speaks diplomatically. “By rejecting your mate, you gave your brother a fated mate, so now I’m not sure if I should demand Lucian step down as the Alpha. With a fated mate by his side, perhaps Lucian can produce an heir. And if he can produce an heir, then have no right to take the position of Alpha away from him.”
I growl in irritation.
My father has the highest chair on the werewolf council. He holds a lot of power, and Lucian knows that without an heir, he won’t stay as the Alpha of the Midnight pack for very long. His position has been in danger for a year.
But now, with Noelle by his side, Lucian might be able to keep his position since a fated mate could potentially get pregnant with him.
“Whatever!” I bark. “I just have to make Noelle dump Lucian for my sake!”
“Oh, and you think that woman is stupid enough to leave her new fated mate for the bastard who cheated on her?” My father asks with an amused gleam in his eye.
I swallow thickly. “Perhaps not, but that won’t stop me from trying to break Noelle and Lucian apart. Lucian isn’t meant to be the Alpha of the Midnight pack–1 am.”
“And what makes you think you’re more fit to be the Alpha of the Midnight pack?”
“Because I don’t eat people,” I answer bitterly, “And I also would never hurt my partner while Lucian has killed his first
mate
“Jurika died in childbirth,” my father says, and, for the first time in ages, I see his wolf coming through. He is mad at me and growls his next sentence, “And Jurika was a mate Lucian claimed by will–she couldn’t handle a hybrid child, but things might be different this time. With a fated mate given by the moon goddess, perhaps Lucian can have pups.”
“Freaks of nature, you mean.”
“Sebastian!”
“What? That’s what my brother is! You think it’s normal to be a crossbreed between a werewolf and a human–eating fairy because those who have died at my brother’s hands would beg to differ!”
“Sebastian,” my father warns again, “you would do well to keep a respectful tongue–about your brother. Despite his faults, he possesses strengths you lack. And the council sees it.”
1 grumble under my breath, unable to respond because I know i won’t make a difference. Father has always favored Lucian despite him being a freak.
I don’t understand why, but something about my older brother has always charmed everyone, including the council His charisma, his strength, and the fact that he is a hybrid of werewolf and fairy make him more powerful and unique than anyone else in our pack.
