Chapter 20
CHAPTER 20
Nothing prepared for this day at all. First, it started with the seer saying she had to go to the ancient temple for mystical intervention on how my powers would be unlocked then I was called to the council meeting and threatened and now, it seemed like something had happened to the seer, Can the day just end? How come I couldn’t get a single rest and a peace of mind ever since I returned to the Moonstone pack? Why does my life keep becoming eventful?
“Ruby, what happened to the seer?” I asked as calmly as I could dis time since my last question made her flinch, my words rushing out, my heart racing as hope sparked within me, only for Ruby’s silence to extinguish it again. Her hesitation gnawed at me. I didn’t want to think about the worse. The only thing I wanted at that moment was a good and uplifting answer. I wasn’t sure I could take any more blow.
“The seer… she.. she’s missing.” Ruby finally whispered, her eyewide with worry.
My stomach dropped, and I felt the air leave my lungs, “What?” I whispered, barely able to comprehend what I was hearing. My knees threatened to buckle, but I steadied myself against the wall. This can’t be happening
“She hasn’t returned from the ancient temple. No one knows where she is, Ruby added, her voice barely above a whisper. I shook my head in disbelief.
A cold sweat broke out across my skin. My mind spiraled into worst–case scenarios. Missing? Gone? How could she be missing? Why did she have to go missing on a crucial day like this? Why must something happen to her after I’d been given an ultimatum Panic crept up my body but doubt soon took over. What if they’d planned all this together from the start? What if the ritual was mainly to take my life? Could it be that my life was needed in exchange for the pack’s welfare? Have they all been deceiving me all along?
“Are you sure about this?” I asked again and she bobbed her head
The guards that went with her came back without her. No one has an idea of what happened to her. We don’t know if she has been kidnapped or something,” she explained and I ran my hands through my hair in frustration. Why now? Why today! of all days? How could she go missing under the watch of two guards? Does that even make any sense?
“I have until the end of today, Ruby,” I muttered, my voice shaking. “If she doesn’t come back… If she doesn’t bring answers…” I couldn’t finish the sentence. The thought of the punishment – the possibility of losing my freedom, my life or getting imprisoned for life, it all crushed me, suffocating the air in my chest. There was no way I could escape from this vast land. Everyone was definitely on the lookout for me, they all had this distrust and possibly hatred for me so there was no way I could fight for my life. Why did I have to be in this situation?
“I’m sorry,” Ruby said before taking her leave as my legs wobbled and I slumped on the chair. Why is my life always so difficult? Why am I unlucky? A couple of minutes later, I realised brooding wouldn’t solve the matter. No, no, I won’t accept this without a fight. I would accept such cruel fate.
I rushed out of the room, needing to get out, to do something, anything. Maybe if I found the Alpha, I could reason with him. Maybe he could stall the council, buy me some time. Or create a search party for the seer. She could be found before the end of the day.
As I swung the door open and rushed into the hallway, I collided with someone. Hard
“Ow!” I stumbled back, clutching my forehead. Of course, it had to be her.
“Watch where you’re going, Luna Iris,” Devlin sneered, her eyes narrowing as she brushed herself off dramatically. Her voice dripped with fake sweetness, like a poisoned apple waiting to be bitten. It was apparent she was mocking me. “We should give you the regard since you won’t be here with us by tomorrow. In such a hurry, are we? Trying to run from your failure already?” Then her eyes widened. “Or are you trying to escape? She opened her mouth widely.
I clenched my fists, trying to push past her, but she stepped into my path, obstructing me. “There’s no escape route for you. Oh you think you’re so special, don’t you? Because you’re Luna Please” She smirked, crossing her arms. “Without those

healing powers, you’re nothing. Just a girl pretending to be something she’s not and that’ll stop tonight. I’ll miss you so much though,” she said in a mocking tone and I scowled at her.
“Get out of my way. Devlin,” I spat, my patience already worn thin,
you
She laughed, a low, cruel sound that sent shivers down my spine. Oh, I’ll move, don’t worry. But soon, everyone wi
will see you for what you are a fraud. And now you’re going to doom the rest of us, all because you’re too weak to do what needs to be done. Thankfully, you can’t go scot–free free. You’ll pay with you life for deceiving us.”
Her words cut deep, but I didn’t have time to start exchanging words with her. I had more important things to do. I shoved past her, anger and fear bubbling inside me. But just as I was about to take another step, Ruby’s voice rang out from behind.
“She’s back, she shouted from downstairs and I looked down at her with furrowed brows,
Who?”
“The seer! She’s returned?”
I froze, spinning on my heels. Relief flooded through me, but it was quickly replaced by a gnawing fear. What news would she bring? Good or bad, this was it. This was the moment that could determine everything.
A few minutes later. 1 found myself sitting in the living room with Alpha Dawn, my heart hammering in my chest as the seer entered the room. Her robes were torn, and she looked exhausted, but her eyes shone with urgency. At least, she returned so there was still hope. Turns out she’d been kidnapped while the guards were slacking off. Even though she claimed she didn’t know who kidnapped her or where she was taken to, I had a feeling it was the Darkwater pack.
They were the only clear pack that wanted revenge. The only one that knew who I was. They knew about the prophecy and wanted the doom of the Moonstone pack. Thankfully, they allowed her come back.
“The journey was difficult,” she began, her voice steady despite her disheveled appearance. “But I’ve seen what must be
done.”
The room fell silent, the tension palpable. I felt Dawn’s gaze shift toward me, but I couldn’t meet his eyes.
“The healing powers can be unlocked,” the seer continued, “to awaken your wolf and the healing abilities within you, Iris, you must find the Ring passed down generations. It’s an ancient artifact passed down through generations of healers which is your mother’s side. Without it, your powers will remain dormant.”
I felt my stomach twist into knots. A ring? How was I supposed to find a ring that no one even knew existed anymore? I couldn’t remember my mom mentioning any ring. I don’t even think we had any ring. She never wore ring at all. She and dad didn’t even exchange rings.
“But where is it?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “Where do I even start looking?”
The seer shook her head, regret clouding her expression. “That, I do not know. The ring is in your family. It should be somewhere in your house.”
“You have to go find the ring. Get it as soon as possible, Dawn said and without waiting for my response, he got on his feet and walked off
“Great,” Devlin’s voice cut through the noise, her tone dripping with venom. “So not only are you powerless, but now you’re supposed to go on a wild goose chase for some ancient ring? Pathetic.”
I glared at her, my fists clenched at my sides, but deep down, fear gnawed at me. What if she was right? What if I couldn’t find the ring? What if I failed? Where would I even see the ring?
