Chapter 9
APTERD
As I read the clause, my fingers trembled. This can’t be. It can’t be The shock that radiated through my body was nothing compared to when I first found out I was involved in a prophecy. My eyes scanned the lines again, hoping I had misunderstood, but the words were still the same:
**Upon the dissolution of this contract, the bound party shall relinquish all personal rights, including but not limited to freedom of movement, autonomy in decision–making, and the right to seek or receive shelter outside the Alpha’s estate. The bound party’s status shall revert to that of permanent servitude, binding them to the Alpha and his heirs indefinitely
Was I dreaming? I felt the blood drain from my face. Permanent servitude? Forever?
“Alpha Dawn never intended to let me go. I whispered, my voice barely audible over the roaring in my ears. He wanted to trap me. He wanted to keep me as his slave. He wants me to be like just his possession. He deceived me. Why would he prepare such a horrible contract after the conditions I laid down to him?
I won’t allow this to happen. I sprang to my feet but my eyes caught sight of the next clause. Oh my goodness! Looks like it was getting worse.
Turns out that wasn’t the only hidden clause, 1 settled on my seat slowly as I read it slowly and calmly, I tried to digest the whole thing and as I read it, I couldn’t help but detest the Alpha. It wasn’t like I was asking for too much and yet, he just couldn’t give me a little freedom when he wants something greater in return…
Why would be want me to remain his slave forever? If I understand the other clause well, if I try to escape or ask for freedom, then I’ll be killed or locked away forever. And worst of all, the self–sacrifice clause which states that I agree to sacrifice my life, powers, or even her soul if Alpha Dawn or his pack ever faces danger. I have no choice but to give myself up willingly if needed, which turns the marriage into a death sentence disguised as a contract.
Oh my goodness! This wasn’t happening. I shook my head vigorously as I read the lines again. How could someone be this wicked?
I bolted out of my chair, the papers slipping from my hand and scattering across the floor. I had to confront him. Now.
Storming down the stairs, I didn’t miss how my footsteps echoed off the marble floors and when I finally arrived at his office, I didn’t bother knocking. Instead, I threw the door open and rushed into the room.
Alpha Dawn looked up from behind his desk, his cold blue eyes narrowing. “What is the meaning of this, Iris? Don’t you know how to knock?”
I slammed the contract on his desk, the pages crinkling under my hand. “This.. this is the meaning of it. Permanent servitude! Self–sacrifice? Being locked away forver? You never planned to let me go. You want to trap me, and you expect me to just accept it? You expect me to sign my life away?”
He rose slowly from his chair, his tall, imposing figure casting a shadow over me. “You agreed to the deal Did you honestly think there wouldn’t be conditions? You think only your conditions matter? That’s not how things are done.”
“I didn’t agree to become your slave, Dawn!” My voice trembled, but I stood my ground. “You want to bind me for life, that’s not going to happen. Even after the contract ends, I’ll still be stuck here! You want to take my life away from me? How could you do this?”
His gaze hardened, and he took a step closer, towering over me. You think too highly of yourself, Iris. You should be grateful. You’re nothing without me. Do you really believe I would let you just walk away? You were sold to me, and now you belong to me–forever. We can’t possibly let our healer just leave, right? And you can’t remain my Luna forever so it’s best you retain your status.”
I felt my pulse quicken as his words sunk in. My hands balled into fists at my sides. “You’re a monster. I’m not going to do this. I’ll rather return to the Darkwater pack

His eyes widened.
921%
“And let your pack members die and go into extinction?” He asked in an incredulous tone like I’d just said the most unbelievable thing. Does he expect me to just adhere to his rules?
“I was never seen as a pack member. I don’t think I have an obligation to you. I’ll go back to where I feel welcomed, after all. our mate bond is no more,” I stated as I turned back to leave but be grabbed my hand immediately.
“You’re not leaving here. You’re going to heal everyone first,” he said through gritted teeth as his grip tightened on me. I struggled to get out of his grip but he was stronger.
“This is a two way deal, If you want me to stay, if I’m really important to the pack as you mentioned then you’ll agree with whatever I want
“How dare you question me? What nerves have you got? You’re not the one doing me the favor here,” he said as he realised his grip on my hand slowly.
Im doing the favor here. If I’m really crucial to the pack’s wellness the you’ll agree to my conditions.”
“And if not?”
“Just as I mentioned earlier. I’ll leave, I reminded him and he let out a scoff.
“And you think I’ll be so stupid to let you walk off. Since you came back here, there’s no turning back, there’s no means of escape. It’s either you sign this contract willingly or I force you, he threatened and I could feel the fear creeping up on me but remembering how I felt so welcomed and wanted at the Darkwater pack, I decided not to sign my life away. I would fight this to the end if need be.
My eyes caught sight of his ball pen and a thought immediately crossed my mind. Quickly, I snatched the pen and pointed it at my
throat.
“If you’re not ready to review the contract and include my conditions, then I’ll kill myself,” 1 threatened and he smirked.
“Drop that thing!” He ordered in a commanding tone but it didn’t have any effect on me. I shook my head.
I’ll rather die than remain a slave for life and sacrifice myself, insisted as I moved the pen closer to my throat. He moved. closer to me in an attempt to snatch the pen but I stepped back instantly.
“If you come near me, I’ll stab myself”
“Are you threatening me?” He asked in a tone of disbelief and I shrugged.
“It’s either we review the contract or I die and the pack goes into extinction. You call the shots here.
He shut his eyes for some seconds and rubbed his temples.
“Okay, fine, let’s do what you want. Drop the pen first,” he said as he inched forward but I took another step back.
“I’m not dropping this until I’m sure you’re not deceiving me. I pointed out and he shook his head.
“Go ahead. What do you want?”
I bobbed my head.
“Good. Just as I’ve mentioned earlier, I’ll gain my freedom after the marriage ends. I can decide to stay here or go back to the Darkwater pack. I’ll be treated with respect during my reign as the Luna and not like a slave. The contract would only last for six months since the seer said we only need to be together for six lunar eclipse. No physical harm, limited public
appearances, no intimacy without her consent, financial independence, and the freedom to leave if she ever felt endangered or manipulated,” the words rushed out of my mouth instantly and he stared at me in shock.

THU, NOV
Before the Alpha could say anything, the door behind me creaked open, and a familiar, sickly sweet voice interrupted.
Π
“Well, well,” Devlin cooed, stepping into the room with a smirk plastered on her face. “Isn’t this a touching scene? The little maid thinks she’s special. You really think you can call the shots here, the nerves of a lowly slave,” she mocked.
I whipped around, glaring at her. “This doesn’t concern you, Devlin.”
“Wow, wow, she now has the audacity to call me by my name. Anyway, whatever is going on here has a lot to do with me,” she said, sauntering closer with an air of superiority. “After all, who do you think has been by Alpha Dawn’s side all this time? Certainly not you. You’re just a healing tool, an instrument, that’s what you are and you need to know your place.”
I turned to the Alpha with a scowl and he let out a sigh.
“Fine, I’ll agree to your terms.”
I shook my head.
“Not that way. I need evidence. Call the lawyer over, he has to do everything right in front of me and we’ll sign the contract after I’m satisfied. Without that, there’s no mating ceremony.”
Devlin huffed as she clapped her hands.
“You’ve really got some guts now. How dare you tell the Alpha what to do? It seems like you keep forgetting your place but let me remind you, Luna or no Luna, you’ll always be a slave.”
I clenched my teeth, fighting to keep my composure then I turned to the Alpha.
“When you’re ready, you know where to find me.”
I threw the pen to the floor and hurried out of the door. Good riddance!
