Chapter 31
When Ashley returned to her office, she noticed an unsigned letter on her desk. As a doctor, she had seen things like this before. Countless times, she had to return money from grateful patients and their families. But this time, something felt off.
Ashley opened the envelope and found a single sheet of paper. The contents shocked her, claiming to have a recording of Olivia admitting to hurting Ashley’s children. The anonymous sender had one demand–perform surgery on a specific female patient, and the recording would be handed over to Ashley.
Ashley frowned, thinking of the incident that happened outsidle earlier today. ‘Could it be related to that patient?‘ she wondered. She knew she had to investigate further before taking any action. Still, she called the nanny and instructed her to keep a close watch on Chloe and Ryan and ensure they went straight home after school
After securing the letter. Ashley went back to work, pretending nothing had happened. She meticulously planned her tasks for the next few days, preparing for the surgery scheduled three days later. She needed to arrange meetings with the medical staff, coordinate equipment and medications with the pharmacy department, and prepare the operating room. Eric’s good mood vanished when Alice snapped at him. He had merely instructed his assistant to check a few details. Given his position, he would never make those work calls himself.
Ashley heard the silence on the other end and removed her phone, ready to hang up and block the number.
“I need to talk to you about Olivia’s surgery, Eric said abruptly, shifting the topic. Admitting he just wanted to have a chat wasn’t an option.
Ashley rolled her eyes and cursed him under her breath. She tried to stay polite, but her annoyance was clear. “Mr. Anderson, please use my work number for matters like this. I don’t appreciate unrelated people calling my private line. With that, she hung up without giving him a chance to respond.
Eric glared at his phone, seething No one had ever dared to treat him this way before. “She’s getting bolder!” he muttered. ‘Get the car. We’re going to the hospital, he ordered his assistant, his face dark with anger.
“Are we visiting Ms. Garcia, Mr. Anderson!” the assistant asked, instantly regretting it as he saw Eric’s displeased look.
Eric shot him a sharp look, annoyed by the needless question.
Silenced by Eric’s leyst
stare, the assistant quietly left to get the car.
Eric knew that until he uncovered Alice’s true identity, he had to find a reasonable excuse to visit the hospital.
