Chapter 8
“Yes. The tests showed she was expecting twins, Tristan confirmed
Ente winced, crumpling the files in his hand. After a moment, he composed himself and asked, “Where was she laid to rest? And who took care of her funeral? His voice trembled with emotion.
Tristan sighed, dropping his gaze. “Probably no grave,” he murmured. “Nobody wanted anything to do with her. Typically, unclaimed bodies are either cremated or donated to medical schools for research.”
Eric’s chest tightened with an oppressive ache, making it hard to breathe, Gritting his teeth, he demanded, “Find her. Even if it’s just her body. I need to know where she ended up. And..”
Despite knowing it was a long shot, he clung to a glimmer of hope. “Continue investigating Dr. Garcia’s history. Also, arrange for a paternity test for those two kids we met at the villa earlier, he instructed. A woman resembling Ashley, accompanied by twins. Unsure of their exact age, but if Ashley had survived and given birth at that time, the twins would likely be of similar age. He contemplated the possibility.
After a while, Eric made it to Alice’s office. She was fully engrossed in tending to a patient. He stood by, watching closely, hoping for any signs or echoes of the past in her demeanor. But disappointingly, there were none. It seemed like they were just two entirely different individuals.
Once Ashley wrapped up with her patient, she spotted Eric hanging by the door and flashed him a smile. “Hey, Mr. Anderson.”
Eric snapped out of his thoughts, stepped inside, and said, “I swung by Dr. Garcia’s place earlier, but you weren’t around. My bad for bothering your kids.
“Oh, no worries,” she replied casually,
Eric took a moment before asking calmly, I didn’t expect Dr. Garcia to have two kids at such a young age. It makes me wonder, is their father also back in the country!”
Ashley grinned knowingly and shot back, “Mr. Anderson, are you trying to find out if I’m married or not?”
Eric remained silent. This woman kept her cards close to her chest. Even his team couldn’t uncover anything suspicious about her, prompting him to focus on investigating her family instead.
“I lost my husband a long time ago, she revealed. Then, unexpectedly, she pulled out her phone and showed a picture of her and a man. “He passed away in a medical accident while doing charity work abroad. Mr. Anderson, are you still doubting me?”
The woman in the pic beamed, posing next to a man, both cradling kids. Looked like the real deal. Eric looked away chitchat, you know, showing a bit of care.”
and kept cool. Just making
Ashley let out a sarcastic chuckle. “Mr. Anderson’s got jokes, huh? Got a wife and a fiancée, so why bother about me, a married woman? She shot a look at Olivia by the door and strolled over, teasing, ‘Aren’t you afraid Ms. Garcia might get jealous?”
