Chapter 23
Maria was a kind and bubbly woman with bright pink hair. On the table she had put small device, looking like a mini laptop, and asked me for the information about where I wanted to send the money. I gave it to her and watched as she entered
into the device.
“So, I will give you an account where you will send the money to. This little thing, then takes that money, scrambles it from address‘, adds a tracker and sends in to the intended destination. Once the money reaches its destination we will know it,” she told me as she turned the small screen my way. On it was the information.tii ||

“I’m just going to send all the glory to that account?” I asked, just to be sure. Elulget want to screw things up becau Imuunderstood something
“That’s right.” Maria told me I nodded and took out my phone. Hunter’s calm presence next to me kept me grounded as entered All the information into my bank app and hit “transfer. I sighed as all of my dreams vanished into the ether. “Got it, and now we have sent it to its final destination,” Mana told me.
“Really? Didn’t you need to do stuff with it?” I asked. She smiled at me.
“This beauty did it all by herself,” she said putting the device on its side, Hunter looked at me and called his eyes and I smiled. “And it has arrived, everything looks good. I’ll print the log and send it to you boss. Do you need me for something else?“abe asked
“No, thank you. You can head back, Hunter said, Marin packed the device and
“Thank you for your help, Mana. There are cupcakes if you want one,” I told her and gestured to the bones,
“Do Level. I have heard namours about those doughnuts you made. I was bummed that I couldn’t snag one. But I’m not going to miss out on this,” she happily said as she walked over and grabbed a raspberry cupcake. She bit into it as she was walking out the door. “Oh my goooooni?” 1 heard her moan.
“I take it you brought baked goods?” Jason asked as he walked into the still open dog
“Do you knock?” Hunter asked, sounding irritated. Jason just smiled.
“I did, cupcakes, help yourself,” I said.
“Don’t mind if I do.” He walked over to the desk and before I had a chance to realise hat was happening, he had stuffed most of a cupcake into his mouth and was happily chewing while making happy notes.
“Fuck, Jason. Can’t you show some manners?” Hunter scolded him. I just gizzled.
“At least he took the paper off first,” I said. Jason did his best to laugh as he stuffed the rest of the cupcake into his mouth.
“I swear you have the ability to create heaven in baked goods,” he told me once he had swallowed.
“Thank you.”
“Did you want something besides showing off your grusome manners?” Hunter asked him. Even though the two of them barked insults at each other, it was easy for me to see how close the two were.
“I wanted to know if Hana would like to see our lawyer while she is here. How about Hana? I was thinking in regards to the police, Tason asked me. I looked at Hunter, he just smiled back at me.
“It’s sweet of you to offer, but I don’t think so,” I started.
“Hey, don’t say no because you think it will be trouble for us. We offered so you are bee to accept, it isn’t a big deal for us,” Hunter interrupted me.
“The old man is
an is right. I wouldn’t have offered if we werent capable and willing to help you, lason agreed, all the humour had vanished from him. I did want to talk with a lawyer, I needed to know what’t should, could and had to tell the police.
“Okay, in that case I would like to see your lawyer, thank you, I told them.
“In that case I will send Seymour up to the conference room,” Iason said, Crabbing seral cupcakes and heading for the door

“They can use my offer, tell him to come up here.” Hunter said, Jason grunted a reply that showed he had heard as he was already eating another cupcake
“I’m sorry about him. I have tried to train him for most of our lives to be around normal people. It just can’t be done, Hunter said. I laughed.
“It’s okay. 1-like him and it’s nice to see someone enjoying what I bake,” I told him. chit chatted and as always it wasn’t difficult to keep the conversation going. I smiled and laughed and once again has drawn to Hunter, I was struggling with remembering that we were just friends, not even that. His intercom buzzed and Clair asked if Me Notington emild enter. Hinter got up and opened the door to the office rather than go over to the intercom..
“Seymour, cunse on in. This is Miss Bishop. You can use my office, Hunter said as he walked back into the room together
er with a tall, thin man about his own age. Seymour Nurington looked every bit the lawyer he was. He smiled, shook my hand and was nice to me. “I’ll leave you to it,” Hunter said and turned to walk away. I didn’t make a conscious choice/Defore I knew it my hand had reached for his, but I feand myself holding the corner of his sleeve.
“Would it be okay if you stayed?” I asked. Hunter looked ht Seymour.
“I wouldn’t mind. But I want you to know, Miss Bishop, that even though it’s the firm that pays my salary, it will be you that are my client. Anything you say to me will stay between us until you tell me otherwise. I won’t talk to my managers here at the firm or anyone else,” he told me. I smiled at him. It was nice that he wanted to make sure I knew that I didn’t need to let Hunter stay
“Thank you, but I would feel more comfortable if he stayed. If you have the time?” Linked Hunter.
I have all the time you need,” he said. He shifted his hand so he took my hand that had a hold of his sleeve in his. The two of us sat down on asked about my situation and I tell him. He bummed and made some notes along the way.
“And what are your worries?” he asked.
couch. Seymour
“The first time the detectives came, I didn’t know anything. And I told them that. But now, I don’t know, I assaulted one of them,” I stated and then I gnawed my lip.
“He had it coming.” Hunter told me with a chuckle. I gave him a quick smile.
“Anyway, besides that, I also know more. But I don’t know if I want to tell them what know,” I continued. It sounded confusing even to me. But Seymour nodded.
“You aren’t obligated to tell the detectives anything. It’s not like in court when you under oath. With that said, if they find out that you have withheld evidence, or lied, it will make them look into you more carefully,” he explained, I nodded.
“I’m a really bad liar. I’m sure they
ey would know if I even tried,” I said, I
He nodded again.
“My advice is to tell the truth as far as you’re comfortable with it. You can onit dets that you don’t want them to know. It’s not lying, but it is as useful, even more so often. If they come back and ask you why you didn’t tell them the omitted details you can always say you forgot them, didn’t know them or didn’t think it was important,” Seymour continued. “And most important of all, only answer the questions they ask. Don’t volunteer information,” he told me. “For example, When my wife asked how I liked the pot roast she cooked I would say it was amazing. I wot tell her that it was much better than the dinner last week that was burnt, but not as good as the pot roast my mother maker. That will leave me sleeping on the couch,” he said with a smile. I returned his smile.
“Thank you for the tip.” I told him.
“And remember, if at any point you feel like things are getting out of hand, if you feel even slightly uncomfortable or feel that something is off, you tell the police that you don’t want to say anything else until your lawyer is present and then you call me,” Seymour said, giving me his business card.
“She won’t be alone,” Hunter told him. He hadn’t let go of my hand and I hadn’t pointed it out because I enjoyed the closeness to him.
“Do you have any other questions?” Seymour asked me.
“No, I don’t think so. Thank you for taking time to talk to me,” I said.
“Not at L he said. We sent him back to his regular work with two cupcakes. Before the door could close behind him, Clair walked in with a stack of papers in her
hand,
You need to read these and sign them, boss,” she said, looking at Hunter. He grunted and nodded. I asked her to take a cupcake and she was delighted.
“Ia you do catering? My mere is getting married in a couple of months and due to some dict restrictions in both doing a reprobe tower instead of a cake. She would love these, Clair said as she ate lemon curd one.

“Perfect! Tell the boss when everything is in place and I will let my niece know,” Clai told me. I nodded happily.
“I didn’t know

“I think it’s a brilliant idea!” he exclaimed,
“Thank you. It will give me an outlet for my baking and it will hopefully build a customer base and give me some extra income to set aside for my future bakery,” I
told him.
“Sounds like a perfect plany” We talked a while longer about my very unfinished plan for the catering business. Then Hunter drove me home. As he walked me to my door he told me he would be in touch when the cops wanted to talk to me. At least this wasn’t the last time I would see him.
