Chapter 62
It had become a habit of waking up in places I didn’t recognise. But I did recognise the sound of Hunter’s breathing and his comforting warmth next to me, I cos hear that he was still asleep and after what he had been through, I wouldn’t be the one to wake him. I stayed curled on my side, facing him and I closed my eye didn’t need to look at him to make sure he was still there and I wouldn’t be surprised if he had some kind of super salduer sixth sense that would wake him if I ogled him. I lost track of time as I was half asleep, focusing on Hunter’s breathing. After a while there was a soft knock on the door and I opened my eyes and twisted my head to look over my shoulder at it. Clair was poking her head inside. I smiled and nodded but motioned towards Hunter. She looked at him and then she nodded, she understood what I was trying to say. She stepped inside and quietly set down a large paper bag on the table by the sofa. She looked at me and raised an eyebrow, her way of asking if I needed anything. I shook my head and mouthed ‘thank you. She smiled, nodded and looked at Hunter. She nodded agai and gave me a thumbs up before leaving. Hunter was still asleep. It showed how tired he must be. I fell for the temptation to watch him and stayed awake to add every detail of his face to my memory. It didn’t take long for a little twitch in his nose to appear. I smiled, it looked cute. A moment later, it twitched again and then his eyelids fluttered open. Hunter looked straight at me and smiled, I smiled back. He reached out with his good arm and let his finger tips caress my cheek.
“I was afraid it was just a dream,” he told me. I turned my head and placed a kiss on his palm.
“No dream, just reality,” I reassured him,
“So I smell coffee?” he then asked.
“Clair was here with what I think is our breakfast,” I informed him.
“That means Jason won’t be far behind,” he grunted.
“Why the grunt. We like Jason,” I reminded him.
“We do,” he agreed. “But I was looking forward to spending some time with you.”
“You will get plenty of that when we get you home,” I said and started to get out of the bed.
“Where are you going?” he asked, taking a stronger hold of my hand.
“I need to put on some more clothes.” I Efted the blanket to remind him that I was wearing the tank top with their corporate logo and a pair of panties. Hunter sighed.
“It brings me no pleasure to say this, but you should put on more clothes before Jason gets here,” he agreed. I slipped into the bathroom and made myself presentable. I was getting mugs of hot coffee out of the paper bag as lason strolled into the room without knocking.
“Morning,” he happily said.
“Don’t you knock? Hunter asked.
“Why would 17” Jason said, bewildered.
“What if we were in the middle of something?” Hunter pointed out. Jason chuckled and I turned bright red.
“Then it serves you right for not thinking far enough to lock the door,” Jason said. Hunter huffed and I handed them both coffee and then I handed them the grilled cheese sandwiches I had found along with the coffee. We ate while Jason told Hunter about what had been going on with the company in his absence. As far as 1 could tell it was all light subjects. We kept up the conversation until the doctor stepped inside.
“Good morning Mr Gardner. How are you feeling today?” he asked.
“Much better, thank you.”
“No pain?” Hunter granted a little.

“I have a good motivator,” Hunter said and kissed my hand. The doctor chuckled, Jason rolled his eyes and I blushed.

“Anything special we need to think about?” 1 asked. The doctor smiled at me.
“He needs to take it easy, he hasn’t fully healed yet. He will get an appointment for a checkup. He will have to keep taking antibiotics for another week. So no alcohol. I can ask a nurse to show you how to change his dressings. Then you don’t need to call someone every time he needs a shower.”
“Yes, please,” I said. The doctor nodded happily and gave me some other conditions to follow.
“Too many rules,” Hunter said. He sounded like a pouting three year old.
“He’s only saying t that because you told him not to be physically active,” Jason pointed out. The doctor chuckled and I turned beat red again.
“Jason,” Hunter growled.
“I’ll let the nurse know you are going home. She will drop by and make sure you know what to do and she’ll have some paperwork for you to sign. If he gets very tired, spikes a fever or gets worse in any other way, please bring him back as soon as possible,” the doctor said to me. I nodded. It took another half an hour to get things settled and Hunter into some clothes. I wanted him to use a wheelchair, but he scoffed and refused. Instead he put his good arm around my waist and with Jason on my other side we walked down to the parking garage. The men that had been stationed around the hospital joined us as we walked. Hunter didn’t complain about being made to ride in the back seat on the ride home, and I was happy he had some sense of his limitations. It felt strange bring back at Hunter’s place, we had left it for our date night and were back several days later. I knew Jason and Hunter would need to talk shop, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t make sure Hunter was comfortable while they did it.
“Let’s talk,” Hunter said as soon as the three of us were alone. I nodded.
“Go sit on the couch and I’ll bring over something to eat,” I told him.
“I think we’ll use the office,” Hunter objected. I gave him a long look. He was stubborn and up until now, I had let him get his way, most of the time. But I could be Just as stubborn. He flinched a little when he saw my look. Jason started to chuckle and I switched my focus to him. He stopped at once and looked at Hunter.
“Couch sounds good,” Jason said.
“Thank you, sweetness,” Hunter told me and made his way to the couch while Jason sat down in an armchair. I made us all some tea and put some cookies on a platter. When I walked over to the men, they were talking about everyday things. I was a little surprised, but I took a blanket and made sure it covered Hunter’s legs before I sat down next to him. He gave me an amused look, but didn’t argue,
“So?” Jason asked and I realised they had been waiting for me to join them before starting the real conversation. I wasn’t used to being included in the group of prople that could make decisions or that had important input. It felt nice.
“We need to talk about Simon,” Hunter sighed. I felt sorry for him. How many times would Simon cause havoc in his father’s life? How many times would he cause him pain, both physical and emotional?
“What has he got to do with all of this?” Jason asked. Hunter told us what had happened when he had been held by Aksakov. I had a feeling he was not telling us everything about what had happened. He was trying to spare my feelings. It was cute, but not necessary.
“So, Simon wants Hana and now we can assume he wants you as well,” Jason summarised.
We need to take action,” Hunter told them.
“It feels like I’m missing something. Do you have a plan or something?” I asked.
“We do. We started working on it after they tried to grab you from your apartment. We thought we could keep you safe and that we had more time. But this changes things. Aksakov is going to do whatever he can to get hold of Simon now that he knows Simon has betrayed him,” Hunter said. Jason nodded. They both looked at
