Chapter 63
I didn’t like what I was about to tell Hana. I had hoped to have more time, to help her build more confidence and make her better prepared. But I could drag it out, it would put her in danger.
“We need to make Simon harmless somebons, lason started and Hana nnded. “The easiest way would be to take him out.” I flinched at the neutral tone of Jason’s voice. I knew I talked about killing someone in much the same way, But it was Simon we were discussing, and it was in front of Hana. I didn’t want her to see that side of me. I was afraid she would be scared of me. Hana looked at me.
“But you aren’t going to do it that way,” she said. It wasn’t a question. It was stupid, but my heart did a little skip as I realised she had more faith in me than I had in myself.
“No. Hunter doesn’t want to do it that way, Jason confirmed. He would have been okay with it. I knew that. In his black and white world, Simon was no longer part. of our team. And as such, he could be killed if it was necessary, Hana nodded.
“The other way is to expose him for what he is and let the system deal with him,” I said. Hana looked at me.
“Prison?” she asked. I nodded. “And what has this got to do with me?” she asked. I took her hand in mine and placed a kiss on it.
“If we do this, things w
will come out. Things you might not want to be publicly known,” I said. She froze and became pale.
“We may need you to testify to same things if we want to put him away for a long time,” lason told her. She didn’t look at him, she kept looking at me with a hint of panic in her eyes.
“We might have to tell the police what he has done to you,” I said. “And our relationship will most likely become known as well.” As I said it, the panicked look in her eyes turned into confusion.
“Why is that a problem?” When I didn’t answer her at once, she turned towards Jason.
“Don’t look at me. I don’t know why it should be,” he said. Helpful as ever.
“Sweetness. If people find out about us, it could turn opinions against you. Not everyone will accept our relationship. I’m older than you, and you used to be married to my son,” I told her. She looked irritated.
“I’m not ashamed of our relationship,” she told me. “Are you?” she asked. I was stunned at how confident she sounded.
“Of course not,” I said.
“Well then it’s not a problem. The people that are important to us doesn’t care, at least not that I know. So it’s a non–issue,” she told me. She made me smile and I kissed her hand again.
“Yes, sweetness,” I said.
“But how do we do it? Are we just going to be walking into the police station and telling them everything?” she asked.
“In a way,” Jason told her.
“I will give our friend in the department some information and the address of where Simon is holding up at the moment. He will handle it as an anonymous tip and then we will just have to wait for them to contact us all over again,” I explained. She nodded.
“How much time should I prepare myself to serve?” she asked. Both Jason and I looked at her like she had
“What time are you talking about?” I asked.
“Prison time,” she told me. When we both looked at her like we had no clue what she was talking about, she bit her lip. “I’m assuming my part in dealing with Aksakov will come out. I am guessing it is illegal to do what I did,” she clarified.
“Hana,” Jason said, and then he was too stunned to continue.
“Sweetness, you can’t think we would ever sacrifice you to get to Simon,” I said.
“It’s okay. I mean, I’m thinking it won’t be that bad. It’s my first offence, and it may not be that bad. Right?” she asked.
“No, no. We will make sure you come out of this without any blame,” I told her and put my arm around her and tugged her closer,

“There is no fucking way we will let this affect your life, Hana. We will make sure you are clean,” Jason agreed.
“Seymore has guaranteed that we can do this without you being implicated, even if Simon or anyone else tries to bring it to light,” I told her. She looked at me, and then to Jason, and back to me. There was a slight tremble in her lower lip that was breaking my heart.
“Thank you,” she said. I could hear how close to tears she was by the slight crack in her voice. I looked at Jason. He looked close to panic and was of no use.
“No need to thank us. You are one of us and we take care of our own.”
“He is right,” lason agreed.
“We just need you to say that you are okay with us moving forward,” I then said. Hana took a deep breath
“I am. Let’s do this,” she said. It was all I needed to hear. I pulled her against me and nodded at Jason.
“Then I have work to do. I’ll leave you two to yourselves. Hana, don’t let this stubborn mule bully you into thinking he is okay. I’m leaving him in your capable hands. You know how to get hold of me if you need help. There are six men stationed in the building. And you,” he said looking at me. “Just relax for once and listen to your lovely girlfriend before she realises she could do better and dump your ass,” he told me. I grinned. He might act like an ass, but he cared. It even seemed as if he and Hana had grown closer. I knew neither of them would do anything behind my back, but I still pulled Hana closer. As Jason left, Hana and I stayed on the couch for a while. I was enjoying having her close to me, being home. She had been so brave when she needed to. I only remembered fragments of what Jason had told me during our ride to the hospital. But he had told me things Hana had done while waiting for news about me. If I remembered correctly she had been making breakfast that could serve a small army. Luckily for that was who we had on staff.
“You should take a nap,” she told me. I huffed.
“I’m not five and I’m doing fine,” I objected.

Then we can think about getting you into a shower and feeding you. The only choice you have in the matter is if you want to take the nap here on the couch, or up in your bed,” she told me. I looked at her and she had the cutest expression on her face. I smiled at her and kissed her nose.
“Okay, I give in to you. And I chose the bed. That way you can join me,” I said.
“Sure,” she agreed. I smiled and got up from the couch. Halfway up the stairs I wasn’t as cocky any longer. The injury might have affected me a little more than I had thought. I had to slow down and even stop to catch my breath. Hana gently put my arm around her shoulder and helped me up the last couple of steps. I briefly considered giving up and chose to rest on the bed in the guestroom instead. It would save me at least five or six steps. But I wasn’t ready to look that weak in front of Hana and I powered through
“Fucking embarrassing,” I huffed as Hans had helped me down on my bed.
hush. No one expects you to be superman,” she told me as she curled up next to me. She was leaving some space between us, making sure she didn’t pain. I wasn’t having that and pulled her closer to me, making sure she put her head on my good shoulder and that I could wrap my arm around her.
“Better,” I told her. She hummed and relaxed against me.
“I really, really missed you,” she told me. It sounded so sincere I had to smile. It felt good to know she cared for me enough to n

notice when I wasn’t around her.
“I missed you too,” I told her. She let out a little sigh and prodded herself up on an elbow and looked down on me. “What?” I asked.
“I love
you,” she said and floored me with the three simple words. She had said it like it was the most natural thing, like her love wasn’t the most precious gift I had ever been given. She smiled and gave me a light kiss and was about to lay back down. She didn’t expect a reply, I realised, Hana was just happy to have said it, that I knew her feelings.
“I love you too, Hana,” I told her and it felt amazing to set my feelings free. She stopped moving and looked at me.
“You do?” she asked.
“I do, with a passion, Lafready did before all of this happened. I was just afraid to scare you away by telling you, I love you, but it doesn’t mean we can’t take things slow,” I said. She smiled at me and kissed me again. Then I tugged her down and she snuggled into me.
