Chapter 64
I could see that Hana had been worried about me. She was fussing over me, making sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. It felt nice as it showed me how much she cared. But I was irritated at myself, or maybe more accurately my body. It took me larger than I liked to gain back my strength. I hated to admit it. but I wasn’t up for moving around for long periods of times and the ache in my shoulder irritated me even more. Hana had suggested she take a week off work, but I refused to let her. I was a grown ass man and I could survive being left to my own devices for a couple of hours at the time. I discovered I was wrong. It turned that apart from my job and working out, I really didn’t have things in occupy my time. The first day I spent watching TV. But that soon became boring. Then I tried reading, but I couldn’t find a book that caught my attention. On the third day I was starting to get grumpy and I knew it. I was watching a cook off on the TV but in reality 1 was watching my phone every minute or so to see if it was time for Hana’s lunch break soon. When she finally walked out of my office I smiled and got up
from the couch.
“What are we making for lunch?” I asked. She smiled back at me.
“I made some pasta salad from the leftovers yesterday. Does that work for you?” she asked.
“If you have made it, it works. Y
You know that if you stop being so stubborn, I could make lunch,” I told her.
“I will let you start making lunch when you can stand on your feet for more than ten minutes before your knees go wobbly,” she said and kissed my cheek. I grumbled a little when I set the counter with plates and glasses. “I know this is hard on you,” she said as we sat down.
“I just don’t know what to do with myself.” I whined.
“I know. But see this as an opportunity to get a new hobby.” Hana sait
“I have a new hobby. You haven’t let me taste you since before all of this. I don’t have to stand up for that,” I said. I saw Hana tumn an adorable shade of pink.
“You are hurt,” she mumbled.
“I would have to be in a coma not to want to do th
want to do that. And even then it’s a possibility my body would need you.” I told her honestly. She just shook her head.
“I have ordered something for you. It should arrive this afternoon. Maybe it can keep you busy and out of trouble,” she said.
“You have got me something?” I was surprised.
“I have, I hope you enjoy it.”
“Hana, you shouldn’t have. I know I’m a bit grumpy at the moment, but it will pass,” I said.
“I know I don’t have to. I did it because I wanted to do it. And because I think you will like it. I let you do all kinds of things for me. me do things for you.”
Big things. Now you need to let
“Thank you.” We left the topic and continued talking about other things. I enjoyed my hour of Hana distraction before she headed back into the office and I put away the dishes and then went back to my depressing couch. I had just watched another episode of the show when the security systems let me know someone was at the door. I took a look and saw the doorman deliver a package and leave. That had to be my surprise. I felt excited as I got up and got it. I walked over to the kitchen counter and sat down to open it. Inside I found different sized sketchbooks, pencils and pastels. There was also an array of accessories like erasers and pencil sharpeners. In my wildest imagination this was not what I had been expecting. I was still staring at all the things in front of me when Hana came walking out of the office. She stood beside me and looked at the pile on the counter.
“I didn’t know what you use, so I looked around on the internet and made a list. I hope I haven’t forgotten anything important,” she said. My focus had shifted from the art supplies to her. I was looking at her in wonder. “Hunter?” she asked.
“Thank you, Hana. This is the most thoughtful gift I have ever got. I love it, and I love you,” I told her with all the sincerity I had in me and then I drew her into a kiss. The kiss was long and full of emotions. When we drew apart, a happy smile played on Hana’s lips.
“I love you too, Hunter. And I’m happy you like it. I need to get back to work but let me know if you need something,” she said, placed a quick kiss on my lips and went back to the office. I ant for another moment and looked at the things she had got me. It was still hard to take in. The gift she had got me had layers of meaning. The most basic being that she cared enough for me to want to give me something. I wouldn’t have minded if it had been a potato peeler, the gift giving in itself was nice. But then there was the fact she cared enough to want to give me something meaningful. It wasn’t a generic gift. She had put thought into it. And the thing I loved the most about it was that it showed that she was interested enough in me that the listened and remembered things we talked about. I had mentioned my artistic side once, en our first date. I didn’t usually talk about it. It had been painful to give up the future I had dreamed about for so long. When Mandy had told me she was pregnant and wanted to keep the baby, there had been no other choice for me. From that monent I had a family to take care of and 1 left my dreams behind me and created new ones. Back then it had been too painful to continue drawing, it had been easier to do a clean break. But maybe it was time to see if I still had it in me. I left most of the things on the counter, but took a pod and some pencils with me back to the couch. The TV served as background Innise as i searched for inspiration. It had been so long since I did something like this. I had no clue where to start. As I relaxed and let my mind wander, noy band started moving. It felt stiff and I didn’t have the control of the movements I wanted to, but I was creating again and it felt amazing. I leaned into the feeling and got lost in it..
Chapter 64
“Hunter?” Hana called and I looked up from what I was doing. The apartment smelled like food.
“Yes?” I asked.
“Sorry to disturb you, but are you ready to eat?” I looked over at where she stood in the kitchen.
“Eat?” I asked, feeling a little dumb.
“Dinner,” she clarified.
“Dinner?” I repeated.
“Are
you okay?” she asked, looking at me with worried eyes. I put down my sketch pad and pencil and got up.
“What time is it?”
“It’s almost seven,” she said as she walked over to me. She put
at her hand on my forehead and looked as if she was evaluating me.
“I’m fine, sweetness. I just lost track of time. Your gift distracted me. Why didn’t you let me know you were starting dinner? I could have helped,” I told her.
“You looked to be in your own world and for the first time in days you locked relaxed and happy. I like that look on you so I left you alone,” she explained. She was too good to be true, and too good for me. But since 1, by some miracle, had managed to get her affection I would make sure to keep it. I hugged her and just held on to her. She hugged me back and leaned her head on my shoulder. “Hunter, I like this, but the fish is going to burn,” she told me. I chuckled, placed a kiss on her forehead and let go of her.
“Tell me what you need me to do,” I said as we walked to the kitchen and Hana took care of the fish.
“Just sit down and relax,” she said as she was already plating the food. “What?” she asked a moment later, looking at me over her shoulder.
“What?” I asked back.
“I can feel you looking at me,” she said with a smile.
“I am. I like looking at you,” I admitted. She just shook her head and continued with the food. I was in a better mood than I had been in a while and I spent the dinner flirting with Hana. Watching her blush and laugh was only making my mood better.
