Chapter 81
Me: lud wanted to check in and ask home things are going.
I waited on the reply Imm Wictor as I tried not to listen to Hunter making his way to the door,
W: Tony and I had a date today and then we talked.
Me: And?????
W: We both wanted to give this a try. The feelings are still there.
I had to stop myself from squealing.
Me: I’m so happy for you! The only reason I’m not calling you right now is that Simon’s mother and her husband are downstairs talking to Hunter and I’m in
W: Hunter asked you to stay out of sight
Me: No, chickened out when they demanded to see Hunter and Hunter said I could wait upstairs if I wanted. So I’m taking the cowardly way out.
W: You have more than eared the right to never see those two again. I fully approve of your choice.
Me: Thanks. I guess we will see each other in court or something. But right now, I like hiding. I’m going to let you get back to your new boyfriend. Tell him hi from me and know there is a double–date in your future.
W: He says hi night back and we will need to arrange that. We have never been able to do grownup things like that. Look at us adulting life.
Me: We have levelled up. Love you..

When I had nothing to distract me with, my attention was pulled downstairs and I found myself eavesdropping. It wasn’t difficult; they were getting loud. I was getting worried. I knew Mandy didn ́t hold hack and Rich usually did what Mandy wanted and let her do as she pleased. I got up from the bad and silently opened the door and leaned against the wall outside the bedroom. They were standing by the kitchen island, it meant I could hear them loud and clear, but they couldn’t see me. I listened as Mandy was her usual charming self, trying to put the blame on Hunter. For each dig she took at him, I felt myself get angrier. When she finally called him a bad father, I couldn’t hold back any longer. I knew that Hunter already blamed himself and thought he had made mistakes that made him a bad father. Anyone that knew him knew he had done everything he could. Because that was who Hunter was. When he cared for someone, loved them, he would give them everything. Just look at what he had done for me. All of this played in my mind as I hurried down the steps. Hunter looked at me in surprise. Rich had that creepy look he always seemed to have, and Mandy looked at me like she couldn’t believe her eyes. I had never stood up to her, not even when she had been horrible to me. But I would stand up for Hunter. I stopped in front of her and gave her a piece of my mind.
“That’s rich coming from someone like you,” Mandy said, looking at me like I was something the dog dragged in. Not that Mandy would ever own a dog. Before I had a chance to answer, Hunter was at my side and put his arm around my waist.
“Backoff, Mandy,” he growled.
“Aren’t you two something extra? Standing up for each other, trying to look like a real couple. When in reality you are a man in his mid–life–crisis and a gold–digger that jumps into bed with anyone that will pay,” Mandy sneered. I had enough of her. Of all the mental abuse I had had to take over the years. Before I knew what I was doing, I slapped her hard across her face. The room fell silent.

Mandy suddenly yelled. She was covering her cheek with her hand.
“I have let you insult me long enough. It ends today. I don’t want to hear you speak so disrespectfully to Hunter, or to me, ever again. Put your energy into more productive revenues. Like how to help Simon or forming a bond with the mother of your grandchild. You always wanted a grandchild, now you have a chance,” I told
“I don’t know what the two of you are talking about, Going on about a grandchild. You are just trying to distract me. She assaulted me!”
“When you talk to Simon next time, ask him about Amber. And Hana didn’t assault you. She defended herself in her own home,” Hunter said with a sigh. He turned to Rich. “You better take her and go or I will exercise my nights to escort you out from my property. Or I will have one of my men that is stationed in the building do it. I will find it hilarious. You won’t,” he told him. Rich looked at him, then he looked at me and Hunter pulled me closer to him. Lastly, he looked at Mandy
“Come, we will go,” he said to her.

Chapter 81
“What? No! I’m not done here!” he shouted
“We both
come before he calls for his man. I don’t think he is bluffing,” Rich said, and he sounded tired. He walked up to his wife and took a grip around her upper arm and more or less dragged her towards the door
“Let me get that for you.” Hunter said, jogging past them to open the door that leads to the nuter hallway and the elevator. “Please don’t come back unless I have agreed in it beforehand,” he said as they walked out. He then closed the door behind them and the apartment went back to silence. Hunter looked at me and then he grinned. He covered the space between us and engulfed me in a tight hug and a kiss. I wrapped my arms around his neck to steady myself. I almost felt dizzy when he let me up for air. “You are amazing. Thank you for standing up for me,” he told me.

Mandy has a knack for finding your vulnerabilities and using them against you,” I told him.
“It’s her superpower,” he agreed
“Did you get something useful out of the conversation?” I asked.
“No. But I learned that my son apparently kept some things from his mother,” he said. I nodded. I had been surprised to know that Mandy didn’t know about the pregnancy
“Do you think it will affect their relationship?” I asked.
“Not likely. Simon will come up with an excuse and Mandy will belive him, because she wants to believe him. He may even convince her that Amber’s child isn’t his”
“We actually don’t know if it is,” I reminded him.
“True. But I think the odds are high.” I nodded as I agreed. There were too many things pointing at it to be true.
“Have you decided what you want to do about it?” I asked.
“No. I have kind of been knowingly ignoring the issue. Maybe when we know how our current mess will end I will know what I want to do with that situation,” he said.
“It’s okay to not know. There are a lot of things up in the air at the moment,” I told him.
“I’m happy I have you to keep me grounded,” he said and kissed me again.
“I’m happy to have you as well. And I actually have good news to share. Wictor and Anthony are now officially dating! Wictor and I have decided we will arrange a double–date when everyone has the time for it,” I told him.
“It’s about time. Them being official, I mean. But I will go on a double–date if you want us to. I will gladly go on any kind of date with you,” he said.
“Will it be awkward because Anthony is working for you? Sorry, I didn’t think about that,”
“It’s okay, sweetness. We did fine when we had them over for dinner. We are all adults. It will be fine,” he insisted.
“We need to eat,” I said.
“You are right, I have not gone easy on you today. Do we have anything that is quick and easy?” he asked.
“No take out?” I teased him
“I wouldn’t argue if you want it. But I like spending time with you in the kitchen and it tastes better,” he told me. I smiled and took his hand.
“I think we can do a quick stir–fry. If you start chopping vegetables, I will take care of the meat.
“Yes, ma’am.”
