Chapter 5

“Miss Brown, I should go back now.”
I nodded and wanted to write a check to thank him, which was my old habit. But now, I found I was as poor as a beggar.
I didn’t bring anything with me when I came out. I planned to bring two pieces of underwear, but I didn’t expect even my room was occupied, not to mention the check.
“Noah, how should I repay you?”
Noah was a little surprised. “No… It’s the least I can do.”
I didn’t say anything anymore. Even if he needed my reward in the future, I wouldn’t refuse.
Noah left as he had to go back to work. Before leaving, he said,. “Have a good rest.”
Of course, I would have a rest. When he said that, I even thought, “For god’s sake, I can finally have a rest.”
During the journey of more than ten miles, I slept in the shack of the farmland and a low tree trunk. While sleeping, I had been strained and beware of wild beasts and those people who chased after me.

Back at the Harrington Manor, I was always waiting for a chance to escape. While sitting on the soft bed in the guest room, It pinched the flesh of my inner thigh from time to time again to keep me sober.
I took off my shoes and went upstairs into the bedroom. There was only a mattress on the bed as I didn’t have time to buy bedding.
Luckily, this apartment was equipped with blackout curtains. Drawing the curtain, I fell on the mattress and fell into a sound sleep.
I regained consciousness and heard a banging sound on the door, echoing throughout the house and the hallway.
However, I slept for too long. After I sat up from the bed, I remained motionless. My limbs felt like they hadn’t regained their ability to move yet.
Suddenly, hearing the lock cylinder of the door smashing to the floor with a crack, I came back to my senses.
Who was it?
Was it the kidnappers or Matthew? Immediately, I searched the room for something with which to defend myself. To my disappointment, there was nothing handy in the empty room.

So I got up and went downstairs. Too flustered, I stumbled and fell with only a step or two to go.
“Skylar!”
A clear voice rang out. I looked up, only to see Noah standing outside my apartment with a shopping bag, panting and looking
nervous.
He rushed over and helped me up. “Are you fine?”
In a daze, I didn’t know what was going on.
A locksmith outside skillfully replaced the lock cylinder with a new one in just a few moments. Then, he put his tools back into his backpack.
“Miss, your boyfriend knocked on the door for two hours, but you didn’t open it. He is so worried about you.”
I held my head and felt dizzy. It seemed as if I had really heard nothing in my sleep.
The locksmith continued, “I heard you have depression, right? Your boyfriend was worried that you might hurt yourself, so he was anxious outside the door. I’d like to give you some advice. Since you are so pretty, you can enjoy your life in many ways instead of dwelling on negative thoughts.”
I looked at Noah, who seemed a bit embarrassed. He let go of me and walked towards the locksmith. “Sir, please stop talking. I’m not her boyfriend. How much do you charge for the lock

The locksmith received the money, showed a knowing

expression, and picked up his backpack. Before leaving, he said to me, “Miss, he is a good man. Give him a chance.”
Noah slammed the door shut without daring to look at me.
“Sorry, I was afraid something might happen to you, so I looked for a locksmith, but I didn’t say anything.”
I knew that Noah was a straightforward person, with his emotions always showing on his face. He must have been genuinely worried about me just now, which led the locksmith to make such an assumption.
“I am fine. I was just sleeping.” In fact, Noah didn’t need to worry so much. If I hadn’t valued my life, I wouldn’t have been determined to crawl out of hell.
I licked my dry lips. At the sight of this, Noah rummaged through the shopping bag he had thrown on the ground earlier and took out a bottle of milk. He unscrewed the
cap and handed
it to me.
I took small sips. The milk was cold as if it had just been taken out of the fridge. Noah seemed to know that I used to only drink ice–cold milk.
Noah looked around the apartment and then turned his gaze to me. He noticed that I was still wearing a long dress with long sleeves, albeit slightly wrinkled.
Chapter 5
Noah asked in confusion, “How long did you sleep?”
I thought about it for a while. “A little over two hours?”
Didn’t he say he knocked on the door for two hours?
Noah’s eyes became weird, and he said, “Think about it carefully. It’s been two days since you signed the contract.”
