Chapter 9
“Ah!” I screamed in fright and hid under the quilt. The man turned on the light, hurriedly came over, and coaxed me.
“Skylar, I want you to sleep well. I’m sorry I scared you.”
The male voice was like a demon’s call. I hesitated to pull off the quilt and felt chill all over. “You… Mr. Harrington.”
Matthew pulled down the quilt, looking a little depressed. “Skylar, didn’t you like to call me Matthew?”
I shook my head, wishing him to stay away from me. Matthew stared at me, and I couldn’t get my breath. “I don’t dare to. Sorry. I don’t dare to pester you anymore, Mr. Harrington.”
I could only remember this. This sentence was stuck in my mind, which could save me from a stick.
Matthew seemed a little excited. His eyes turned red. He held back his anger and said patiently, “Skylar, I’m sorry. I didn’t know that a few days‘ delay of ransom would bring you… They promised me that they wouldn’t…”
“Do what? What they wouldn’t do to me? Beat me? Matthew could have saved me!”
I didn’t want to recall these things, but there was always someone who made me recall what had happened that day over

experienced. But now, I just wanted to know where Noah went.
“Do you know where Noah is?”
Matthew grabbed my wrist. His tone was strong but sounded like praying. “Skylar, forget him. We can start over.”
I heard his words and could no longer control myself. I got up and pushed him off. In the dimly lit room, my waist hit against the table.
“Skylar!”
I suddenly knelt in pain, like the day I knelt in Matthew’s car when he came to pick me up.
“Mr. Harrington, please give Noah back to me. I only have him. Please… Please…”
Matthew went to me and wanted to hug me. “Skylar, there’s a wound on your knee. Get up first. Get up and say it, okay?”
I avoided his hand and resisted him like crazy. “I only have him! Matthew, don’t you just want me to die? Don’t hurt Noah! I’ll die! I’ll die!”
Matthew collapsed. He shook his head sadly. “Skylar, I’ve never… How could I let you die?”
“Bang!” I broke the vase on the table, picked up a fragment, and pressed it against my neck.

“Where is Noah?”

I was stunned, knowing what he meant. “I see. You don’t believe I’ll commit suicide…”
“Doctor!” Matthew roared.
Doctors and bodyguards rushed into the room at the same time. Someone clamped my hand, and Matthew took the opportunity to snatch the sharp fragment from my hand.
The doctor injected the sedative into my body. I instantly lost all my strength and emotions.
Matthew’s hand was cut. The private doctor was busy bandaging the wound.
“I’m fine. Go and check Skylar.”
“Don’t worry, Mr. Harrington. Miss Brown only has a skin trauma.”
It was a slight injury. The doctor simply wrapped two circles of gauze around my neck.
“But Miss Brown has severe psychic trauma. She needs good treatment.”

“I see. Thanks.”
Only me and Matthew left the room after the doctors and bodyguards left.

lay in the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. My consciousness seemed to float outside the body.
Matthew saw my blank expression and choked up. “Skylar, please give me a chance. I promise I will make it up to you.”
