For the winter holidays, my mom and I returned to the family house, leaving my dad and Janice alone.
When we returned, Janice came to taunt me. “I don’t know how you know that I’m going to be your stepmom, but I’m pregnant. You’re going to have a sister.
“And it’ll only be a matter of time before your dad, my husband, divorces your mom.
“You should start calling me ‘Mom‘ and if you take good care of me, I’ll ask my husband not to throw you out.”
She caressed her stomach greedily.
I gave her an indifferent look. “You’re so hungry for it, aren’t you?”
Janice did not understand.
I proceeded to spread the news of her pregnancy around campus, and in no time, everyone knew.
“Did you hear? YL’s illegitimate daughter is pregnant!”
“I heard! I also heard the baby daddy’s some old man in his fifties!”
“Huh? But she’s barely twenty! Well, what did we expect from an illegitimate child anyway? They know nothing about shame.”
Janice happened to hear their discussion and glared at me.
She had a fight with my dad when she got home and insisted he throw my mom and me out of the house and marry her immediately.
“Janice. You insisted on being my illegitimate daughter in the beginning, and I already told the public that too! It won’t look nice for us or the business to host a wedding. And that’s my wife, I can’t just throw her out of the house and marry you. What’s wrong with staying here and giving birth to our kid?”
Mom and I were waiting outside the door for the perfect moment to barge in.
Her eyes were bloodshot, and her expression was one of disbelief. “Is that true? Did you cheat on me? Winner?!”
Janice wrapped her arm around my father’s and held his hand. “I’ve been wanting to tell you long ago. Your daughter knew, though. She didn’t tell you?
“You know how it is. What’s wrong with men preferring young virgin women?”
Mom began to argue with them, and I took the chance to record the scene secretly.
“I want a divorce!” Mom shouted.
My father kissed Janice. “Are you sure? Who would want an old and wrinkly woman like you?”
Does he have no idea how infatuated our neighbor is with Mom?
He continued, “Think about it. You’re already my wife, and you have the moral ground. Janice has nothing! She’s here for me. Why must you insist on fighting for my love?
“Stop being so stingy. I can raise your allowance. I’ll give you an extra ten thousand a month, You just need to accept Janice!
“But if you insist on a divorce, I won’t even give you a cent! You won’t survive without me!”

I snickered internally. He had no idea his company was nothing more than a shell. The man spent all his time rolling in bed with Janice.
“I’m divorcing you,” Mom said decisively.
Irked, he agreed. “Fine, then! Fine! Not divorcing you was for your own good, but if you insist on screwing yourself over, who am I to stop you? Don’t even think about bothering me and my wife Janice from now on! Get your kid and get out! Who gave you the right to throw tantrums at me? You can’t even give me a son! Get out of my house!”
Janice leaned against his bulging stomach and gave us a prideful smile.
Mom held my hand and turned away. “I thought you were better than this.”
This was Mom saying her final farewell.
