Ever since Lucas’s true identity was revealed, Martha and Lily completely dropped their act.
Their attitude towards me took a sharp downturn.
They barged into our bedroom whenever they wanted, rummaging through my things and using my makeup and clothes.
They even demanded I pay them a salary.
“Chloe, you need to pay us for our work. Lily is basically a full–time nanny for Noah – that’s worth at least

sanother2000. So you owe us $5000 a month.”
“Plus groceries, baby formula, diapers, clothes that all adds up to another $2500 a month or so.”
“Transfer $7500 to Lily’s account right away. Oh, and add me as an authorized user on your credit card. We’ll need it for clothes, makeup, and
whatnot.”
“By the way, didn’t you want us to go on a vacation? Give us $10,000 for that too. The weather’s nice – Lily and I can take Noah to see the flowers in Colorado, try some local cuisine.”
They thought they could use their “savior” status to manipulate me the same way they had controlled Lucas all these years.
How laughable.
Since they weren’t Lucas’s real mother and sister, I had no reason to be polite anymore.
When I noticed my gold necklace and jade bracelet were missing yet again, I called the police without hesitation.
The officers arrived as Martha was still throwing a tantrum.
“Chloe Chapman, if it wasn’t for us, Lucas would be dead! Everything you own belongs to us too. What’s wrong with Lily borrowing your jewelry? I can’t believe you called the cops on us!”
I ignored her ranting and simply showed the police the security camera footage.
The video clearly showed Martha and Lily opening my jewelry box and taking items.
There was no way they could talk their way out of this ironclad evidence.
“Chloe, please, tell the police it was just a misunderstanding! We were only joking around,” Lily pleaded frantically. “If they take me away, who will take care of Noah?”
I smiled coldly. “He’s my son. Of course I’ll take care of him.”
“You ungrateful bitch! Just wait, I’ll make sure Lucas divorces you!” Martha shrieked.
I laughed. “Oh? So he can marry your daughter instead?”
I had overheard them plotting last night to drug Lucas and have Lily sleep with him.
Martha puffed up indignantly.
“And why not? Lucas and Lily aren’t blood related. There’s no reason they can’t be together! Listen here, Chloe Chapman – you’d better wise up and get out of here. Divorce Lucas and leave with nothing.”
Perfect. Just perfect.
I had already dialed Lucas on speakerphone as soon as they started talking.
After the police took them away, Lucas’s voice came through:
“Chloe, I had no idea they harbored those kinds of thoughts.”
I sighed heavily.
So what now?

Pushing down the ache in my heart, I forced myself to speak:
“Lucas…maybe we should get divorced.”
I was taking a gamble.
Lucas and I had met during Freshman Orientation Week in college.
I had fainted from heatstroke, and he carried me to the campus clinic.
From that day on, I started paying attention to him.
I noticed he only ever got two plain bread rolls in the cafeteria. –
He was terribly thin.
When the school organized a blood drive, he was the only one turned away for being underweight.
I gradually began to feel sorry for him.
So I started deliberately getting extra meat dishes and sides, then claiming I couldn’t finish it all as an excuse to give him the leftovers.
I still remember how his eyes welled up with tears as he silently ate the food.
Later, when he won a prestigious scholarship, the first thing he did was treat me to a nice dinner.
But he never actually asked me out.
It wasn’t until after graduation, when he landed a great job at a top firm, that he finally proposed.
He bought a ring and got down on one knee, saying I was the light of his life. My love had illuminated his dark, oppressive past. He would love me forever, never leaving my side.
Lucas came home and immediately pulled me into a tight embrace.
“Honey, we’re not getting divorced. I love only you. I would die before letting them dictate who I marry.”
I steeled my heart and pushed him away.
“Then make them leave! We’ll send Noah to daycare.”
This time, Lucas agreed without hesitation.
We decided to rent an apartment for Martha and Lily, moving them out of our home.
I expected Martha and Lily to throw a fit and refuse to leave.
To my surprise, they agreed quite readily.
Martha looked remorseful and spoke sincerely:
“Lucas, you’ve done so much for us over the years. We’ve had time to reflect, and we realize our recent behavior was unacceptable. We’re already grateful that you’re willing to rent us a place to live.”
Lily also looked ashamed.
“Big brother, Chloe, please don’t be angry. This is all my fault. I lost my own baby and became obsessed with Noah. I was wrong. I only ask that you let me see him occasionally”
Lucas was relieved.
But I didn’t trust them for a second.
Terrified of reliving the tragedies of my past life thired a private investigator to follow them 2417.
