So I had guessed correctly – they had been planning to kill us last night.
My whole body was in agony. Blood was trickling down my face.
I truly felt they were trying to beat me to death.
Finally, the doctors rushed over and pulled us apart.
“Stop fighting! The patient isn’t dead.”
I clutched the doctor’s coat, my heart leaping with hope.
“Doctor, is my husband awake?”
Martha and Lily’s expressions darkened ominously.
“He’s got some real luck,” Martha spat.
“However, his spleen is severely damaged. He needs an urgent heart transplant.”
“You need to prepare at least $500,000 for the surgery right away.”
Martha shoved me aside and grabbed the doctor.
“We don’t have that kind of money! We have a 2–month–old baby to take care of. I’m Lucas’s mother – we’re refusing treatment.”
I used all my strength to push Martha away.
I pulled out my bank card.
“Doctor, I’m Lucas’s wife. We are NOT refusing treatment. I’ll pay whatever it takes to save my husband.”
Martha and Lily lunged for my bank card.
“Doctor, I’m Lucas’s mother! I gave birth to him! We’re not doing the surgery!”
Just as they were about to snatch the card away, I pulled a knife from my pocket and stabbed their hands.
Ever since being reborn, I had felt something could go wrong at any moment. So I always kept a small knife in my pocket.
Martha started screaming and thrashing around.
“Murder! Murder! My daughter–in–law is trying to kill me and my daughter!”
Lily also began wailing hysterically.
“You killed my brother and now you want to kill me and my mom! You’re going straight to hell!”
Lignored their dramatics.
“Doctor, they have no blood relation to my husband. I want to save him.”
The doctor called security to drag the shrieking Martha and Lily away.
The man they had been arguing with earlier approached me.
“I think someone tampered with your husband’s car. Right before the crash, he yelled that his brakes had failed and told me to get out of the
way.”
He held out his phone.
“I recorded your argument just now. I hope it might be useful to you.”

Thanks to the prompt medical treatment, Lucas was saved.
The private investigator also sent me a video.
It showed Wayne crouched under Lucas’s car, tampering with something.
Wayne used to run an auto repair shop, so he knew cars inside and out. It would have been easy for him to sabotage the brakes.
I immediately called the police.
Wayne was quickly apprehended.
What I didn’t expect was that while we were arguing at the hospital, he had snuck into our home and tried to kidnap Noah.
The police caught him just as he was about to leave with the baby.
Once arrested, Wayne quickly implicated Martha and Lily.
Martha and Lily were soon arrested as well. They confessed to everything.
The verdict came down swiftly. Wayne was sentenced to 25 years for multiple crimes.
Martha and Lily got 10 years each for conspiracy and poisoning my unborn child.
Looking at the bright sunlight outside, I could finally breathe easy.
Soon after, Lucas woke up.
He gripped my hand tightly.
“I’m so sorry I didn’t believe you, honey. Thank god you didn’t go that night.”
I held him close, sobbing uncontrollably.
At last, the tragedies of my past life had been averted.
My husband was alive.
It was only then that Lucas learned Noah wasn’t really our child. He clutched my hand, his voice trembling:
“Honey…what happened to our baby?”
