Dazed, he ran through each room, desperately searching for traces of me. But after scouring the entire place, he couldn’t find a single item of mine.
“Why is this happening?” he muttered, pulling out his phone to call me again, only to hear the mechanical voice of the answering service, which nearly drove him mad.
Frustrated, he tried messaging me through social media, only to be notified repeatedly, “This user is not in your friend list.”
For a moment, he almost wondered if our seven years together had been nothing but a figment of his imagination.

Then, he remembered a couple’s location–tracking app we had once used. Opening it, he saw that I had long since. turned off my location. And in the trip. history, he noticed that I had approached him with the app about half a month ago, only to stop a few meters away and then turn back.
Something must have happened that day, he thought.
Checking the calendar, he saw the date and his phone slipped from his hand, shattering as it hit the floor.
Later that evening, the Silverback Pack’s gathering buzzed with energy at the grand banquet hall of a luxury hotel.
I was led around toasting one table after

another, my feet aching from exhaustion, until I snuck away into a guest room to rest.
As soon as I laid down, I heard a noise coming from the bathroom, which startled
- me.
“Who’s there?” I called, sitting up.
No answer.
Curiosity outweighed my unease, and I cautiously approached the door. My hand hesitated on the handle before I pushed it open.
The next moment, I was yanked inside.
A gasp escaped my lips, only to be stifled as I found myself pinned against the cold tiled wall by a soaking–wet man.

His drenched clothes clung to his muscular frame, water dripping onto the floor as his intense gaze locked onto mine.
He was struggling to focus, his breath coming in labored pants, but one thing became crystal clear the moment his scent hit me.
Juniper and mint. It’s like the smell of the woods in winter, which fascinates me.
When our eyes locked, my wolf was screaming ‘MATE!! He’s our mate!‘
I stared in disbelief. Could it be true? Meeting my mate now, on the eve of my 30th birthday, seemed too coincidental.
He blinked slowly, his strength clearly waning. Then, to my shock, he weakly spoke my name.

“My mate, Nancy?”
I couldn’t bring myself to answer, still too stunned.
His weight shifted as he released me, his body slumping forward. Instinctively, I caught him, his head resting against my shoulder.
“What a coincidence,” he murmured, his voice hoarse but tinged with faint amusement. “I’m your fiancé. Or rather, the one you haven’t married yet. Care to do me a huge favor?”
“A… a huge favor?” I stammered, confused. Then, quickly regaining my composure, I added sharply, “And why should I believe you?”

He chuckled weakly, the sound warm and deep, sending an unbidden shiver down my spine.
“Cautious, are we? Smart. My wallet and phone… they’re in my jacket pocket. Check them if you don’t trust me.”
He slumped further, his legs nearly giving out. Torn between suspicion and instinct, I gently propped him against the wall, reached into his jacket pocket, and pulled out his wallet.
Flipping it open, I scanned the ID inside. My breath hitched as I read the name.
