Dad sighed. “Then what’s your plan? Are you just going to raise the children separately?”
I nodded. “For now, that’s the only choice. I’ll do my best to give Jonas the best life possible.”
Dad fell silent for a while, then he said, “Cole, don’t forget that whatever happens, you’re always our son. Your mom and I will always be on your side. Tell us whenever you need help.”
Feeling touched, I looked at my dad. “Thank you, Dad. I will.”
It was late when we left my parents‘ house.
Jonas fell asleep in the car. Gently, I carried him home and placed him on the bed. After padding out of the room quietly, I sat on the couch in the living room and turned on my phone. A few push notifications popped up on the screen. All of them were news about Jared.
Frowning, I tapped on one of them.
“Shocking! Award–winning actor, Jared Lawson, was seen on a date night with a mysterious beauty. Possible new romance exposed!”
Attached was a blurry photo of Jared and a woman eating at a fine dining restaurant. Though the photo was blurry, I recognized at a glance that the “mysterious beauty” was Yvonne. With a scoff, I scrolled down to read the comments.”
The online community made a variety of speculations. Some recognized Yvonne, but most of them were still trying to figure out who the “mysterious woman” was.
Just as I was about to turn my phone off, a new notification caught my attention.
“Exclusive story: Jared Lawson and Yvonne Langley, CEO of Langley Group, go public with their relationship! The two arrived hand–in–hand at a charity gala!”
My heart sank as I swiftly tapped on the news. In the attached photo, Jared and Yvonne were dressed in evening attire and holding hands on a red carpet.
Yvonne wore a blissful smile that I’d never seen before, while Jared had a loving expression on his face.
According to the news, the two had publicly acknowledged their relationship at the gala. Moreover, they revealed that they were actually lovers in college. After their recent reunion, they realized they still loved each other.
I stared at the photo for a long while until the screen turned black
The next day, at the school entrance, Xavier ran over once he noticed us. “Daddy, did you see the news? Mommy and Jared are together now! They’re so cool!”
Holding back my discomfort, I said with indifference, “Mhm. I saw it.”
Yvonne walked over and said calmly, “Cole, about last night-
I cut her off. “No need to explain. That’s your personal life. I simply hope you’ll think about how it’ll affect the children.”
Yvonne was taken aback for a moment before nodding. “I understand. We’ll deal with that properly.”
I said nothing more and simply crouched to tell Jonas, “Go on. Pay attention in class.” Jonas nodded. After a moment’s hesitation, he followed Xavier into the school.
I stood. Without giving Yvonne another look, I turned and left.
Back at the office, I had just sat down when a secretary rushed in.
She said, wheezing, “Mr. Joplin, there are reporters outside asking about your relationship with Ms. Langley. They said-”
I put my hand up to interrupt her, “Ignore them. Don’t answer any questions from the media.
She nodded and left.
Leaning against the back of my chair, I closed my eyes.
