“Jennifer, long time no see.”
William looked at me deeply before clinking his glass with mine.
I took a small sip of t the strong drink and slowly sat back down.
Caroline tugged on my sleeve, giving me a playful wink. “What’s going on with you two, honey?”
*W–What do you mean?”
“William hasn’t taken his eyes off you since he walked in.”
“You’re imagining things, Caroline.”
“Relax! I know what I’m seeing. I can spot a connection between a man and a woman instantly.”
I bit my lip, feeling my heart race, completely out of control
After graduation, I went back to New York with Lucas, and I hadn’t seen William since then.
Apart from the occasional holiday message, we had no contact at all–until recently, when Lucas made his pursuit of Lydia so public.
That was when William suddenly reached out to me.
So far, we’d only exchanged a few phone calls, and this was our first time seeing each other since I accepted his proposal.
We hadn’t even held hands, yet Caroline made it sound like we were already an item.
“Hey, William, do you have a girlfriend?” one of the girls suddenly asked, raising the energy in the room.
“I have a distant cousin who’s gorgeous. Want me to introduce you two?”
Caroline joined in without missing a beat, “William, if you’re single, look at Jennifer!”
“She’s beautiful, sweet, has a great figure, and graduated from a top university, just like you! Aren’t you a perfect match?”
I was so flustered, my face felt like it was burning up.
In the midst of the laughter, William’s calm voice cut through.
“Alright, Caroline, don’t tease Jennifer like that.”
“She’s shy, so don’t push her.”
Caroline made a silly face. “Oh, is senior protecting his little junior?”
William just smiled, not denying it, but not confirming it either.
I glanced at William secretly, only to find he was already looking at me.

Then, a message popped up on my phone.
William: “Walt for me after dinner. I’ll take you home”
Me: “Okay.”
William: “Good girl.”
I didn’t reply, but my heart was beating wildly.
