“william…”
“I’m not dreaming, am I? You’re Jennifer, right? You’re Jennifer?”
William suddenly cupped my face, his gaze so close that our breaths intertwined in the small space between us,
His eyes, clouded with the haze of alcohol, held a mix of confusion, disbelief, and an inexplicable bitterness.
My heart felt twisted and knotted, filled with a deep ache.
“William….
“You’re not dreaming‘
“It’s me, I’m Jennifer…”
Before I could finish, his warm lips brushed against mine.
It was a light, soft kiss, so gentle and tender.
Before I could even process it, William had already pulled away,
He seemed to have noticed the surprise and uncertainty on my face, reading the confusion in my eyes.
Be took my hand and gently seated me upright on the car seat
The car had started moving, and William lowered the divider.
In the enclosed space, I felt even more nervous, but William let go of my hand.
Don’t worry, Jennifer.”
“I wouldn’t do anything to you here.”
He reached up and smoothed out a stray lock of my hair. “Jennifer, I’ll patiently wait until our wedding night.”
My checks flushed, and after a moment, I looked up at him, giving a shy nod
Meanwhile, Lucas was drink once again.
No matter how much his friends tried to reason with him, he wouldn’t listen.
He wasn’t entirely sure what had been dragging his mood down lately.
Maybe he was simply tired of Lydia, after the initial excitement wore off, she didn’t seem all that special.
Or maybe he was starting to miss Jennifer’s quiet, gentle, and caring presence.
The last time his friends called Jennifer, it had actually been with his approval.
But Jennifer had refused, over and over.
Frustrated, he’d snatched the phone and said what he did.
But Jennifer had stayed silent and calmly hung up
She didn’t come to see him or take him home.
Even knowing he’d overdone it with alcohol and might be in physical pain, she didn’t respond.
Lucas didn’t want to admit it, but in that moment, he felt a hint of panic,
Still, he quickly reassured himself.
Jennifer had loved him for so long
They’d been together for three years–not three days, not three months.
He knew how much she’d invested in this relationship.
So now, he thought, she was probably just too hurt and resentful.
But Lucas couldn’t bring himself to believe she’d truly let go of their relationship
