The wedding was extravagant and incredibly romantic.
Neither Lucas nor Leo managed to set foot in the wedding venue.
But they both, unspoken, didn’t leave either.
Leo, however, couldn’t hold out until the end; he suddenly suffered a heart attack and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Though he was saved, he remained in a coma
As for Lucas, he stayed until the wedding concluded.
For some reason, Jennifer’s friend Caroline had never blocked him.
So he could see nearly the entire wedding unfold through her social media posts.
Before the wedding, Lucas already knew Jennifer’s groom was William–her college senior, the one she had praised many times as exceptional.
Back then, when he and Jenniter were just starting to see each other, he used to feel jealous every time she mentioned William.
Eventually, Jennifer stopped talking about him and even distanced herself from William on purpose.
But now, after all this time, she had ended up marrying him.
As a man, Lucas could tell at a glance: William loved her deeply
In every photo, every video, the way William looked at Jennifer was filled with love and devotion.
Lucas felt as though he were looking at his past self.
He, too, had once loved Jennifer like that.
Until he thought he had grown tired of her, drawn to the allure of someone younger.
And he let her slip away.
By the time he realized he wanted her back, it was far too late.
William’s car took her away, back to their new home together.
Lucas could barely process the bitterness and regret gnawing at him.
He’d heard their new home was also filled with roses.
It was spring now, the most beautiful season of the year.
Surely, those roses would be blooming vibrantly.
Driving back to New York late that night, Lucas took the empty expressway.
On the long bridge, with no one else around, he sped up, accelerating to his car’s maximum speed.
Then, he twisted the wheel sharply, closed his eyes, and let go.
The car crashed hard against the guardrail.
After the deafening impact, there was only silence.
The roses may bloom again, but now they bloom in another’s garden.
If there is another life, he wishes to go back to the year he first met Jennifer. This time, he promises he would truly love her.
