But when Layla had left the Parker family, Seth still hadn’t given her the chance to wear a wedding dress.
Unconsciously, he opened his drawer, wanting to check if the sketch of a wedding dress was
still there.
Before he could take a proper look, his phone rang. It was Daniel.
Seth glanced at Clarissa and said coldly, “I have another meeting. I’ll let Sean take you home.”
With that, he grabbed his phone and walked out.
As soon as the call connected, Daniel’s voice came through, full of frustration.
He said, “Seth, I’ve used every connection I have, but I still can’t find any leads on Layla’s case. If you would at least tell me where she got hurt, I might be able to locate some witnesses. But with no details? How am I supposed to find the culprit?”
Seth frowned. “If Layla is willing to talk to me, do you think I’d need your help?”
Daniel let out a sarcastic laugh. “Well, whose fault is that? You treated her like that back then. If I were her, I wouldn’t want to deal with you either.”
“I asked you to investigate, not lecture me,” Seth snapped, his tone laced with irritation.
“Fine. How about I arrange to meet Layla sometime? I could try to get some information from her,” he suggested cautiously.
Seth immediately shut that idea down. “Layla is like a hedgehog right now. She’s sensitive to the smallest things. If you approach her, it’ll only make things worse.”
Daniel sounded genuinely baffled. “Seriously? Layla used to be so gentle. She was the perfect wife. All of us were envious of you back then. Not like Sylvia, who, frankly, is nothing but a loudmouth.”
He continued, “You know, after you divorced Layla, Sylvia kicked me to the curb too. What did I do? Talk about collateral damage. She had the nerve to say, ‘All friends of jerks are jerks too.” Thanks to you, I’ve been carrying this bad reputation for years.”
At the mention of Sylvia’s name, Seth’s tightly furrowed brow relaxed slightly.
“You could go find Sylvia. She might know something about what happened to Layla,” Seth suggested.
Daniel retorted, “You’ve got to be kidding. She’s blocked me on every platform. She hits me every time I see her! Do you think I want to put myself through that?”
When Seth didn’t respond. Daniel sighed, realizing he had no choice. “Fine, I’ll try. But I’m
not promising anything. If I get injured, you’re paying my medical bills.”
“If you die, I’ll handle your funeral arrangements,” Seth replied flatly.
Daniel swore in frustration. “Can’t you wish me well for once? At least you have a son to take care of you in your old age. I don’t even have a wife yet!”
After hanging up, Seth exhaled slightly, as if a weight had been lifted.
He was certain Sylvia knew something about Layla’s injury.
And no matter what, he would uncover the truth.
Clutching his phone, Seth walked straight to the conference room, not sparing another thought for Clarissa.
Back in the office, Clarissa sat on the sofa, thinking. Clarissa knew Seth’s agreement to look at wedding dresses was just a way to brush her off, but the fact that he hadn’t outright rejected. her has given her hope,
She waited for a while, but when Seth didn’t return, she decided to check on him. As she got up, her eyes fell on the slightly open drawer of Seth’s desk.
Inside was a pencil sketch of a wedding dress.
Curiosity got the better of her. She walked over and opened the drawer fully.
She was instantly captivated by the design on the sketch.
Clarissa’s eyes lit up
with excitement.
No wonder Seth dismissed all the dresses she had chosen. He actually had commissioned a custom design for her, Clarissa thought.
So, she still held a special place in Seth’s heart.
He had once left Layla for her. Now, he was having a wedding dress personally designed for her. Wasn’t this exactly the kind of devotion straight out of a romance novel?
Clarissa carefully took out the sketch and studied it closely, captivated by the intricate details.
But as she stared, her eyes fell on the word written at the bottom right corner of the page. It
was a name.
Layla.
